    Default Hildegard Knef

I really like the two tracks I've heard by this German singer. On The In Kraut and on effi-deeps xmas swap CD. So can anyone direct me onward - has she loads of good stuff or is she more like a Shirley Bassey type cultural figure?
    Cheers

I love Fredenskampf Und Schadenfraude. It's a long and very funky German spin on 'McArthur Park' but not the same song if you get my drift.

You'll find it on my Xmas mix from last year... but I don't think it'll be in your drawer at work

She went through a whole lot of different stages in her singing career; the best stuff IMHO being the LP's she did with the Orchester Hans Hammerschmid. Von nun an ging's bergab being on the LP 'Halt' mich fest.'

Make a point of playing the version of Von nun an ging's bergab that's on there too. It's completely different from the English version....much fresher and played by a smaller band at a much faster tempo.

I found it on a Stern magazine compilation LP.

She's great in this B-movie too, playing a cabaret singer - features her doing a couple of numbers.

It's called Knef and it has an unmistakable, and great, pink cover. The album also has a track that's even better - it's on the second mix on the Weird Gear website: http://weirdgearnyc.com/Mixes.html

An especially helpful reference source I always find. Well I know the first one anyway.
