    Default Funk in unexpected places

With the next Illustrated London Noise featuring funky stuff from either:
    1. Unexpected places around the globe
    2. Unexpected genres
I am going through my collection unearthing some fun contenders - easy funk (Button Down Brass), steel drum funk (20th Century Steel Band), Mexican funk (Brazilian Octopus), flute funk (Steig), gypsy funk (Szabo), Dutch folk funk (Fungus) etc....
What are some of your favourites?

Dutch rhythm and steel show - down by the river - hoofing dutch steel drums vs gut wrenching lyris - yes please!

New Hope Sings - godofallofus - god bothering christian us choral folkies turn on the fuzz and more hoofing drummage. bad.

Why on earth do you think that? Is it 'Octopus' that gives it away? I'm sure they have these off the coast of Mexico..... can't think where your suspicion lies..........

Yes - you're right of course.... I'll get my coat.......

Tracks 3 and 4 off the Ethiopiques 3 CD are the funkiest stuff out of Ethiopia I've heard. I love Mulatu, but he's more jazz/soul for me. These two sound like James Brown went back on a black star liner.

Thanks for the links - seems to come around each year then - suggestions are seeming to grow and become more diverse each time though - which is nice!

I've been digging for stuff...AT HOME! which is always a sign you need to tidy up and (re) discovered and played these last night:

Paladin 'Charge' LP (Bronze 1972) which is all over the place musically but has some prog rock funk or hairy funk with the opener' Gimme Your Hand' can't rememeber buting this one...its a bit knackered though. Very hairy gatefold sleeve !

The Jean Leccia Interpolation LP (MGM1972) which is kind of folky soul I suppose - I'm crap at genres - but very funky in parts - first time I've playe it properly since I bought it 8 yrs ago...it got lost in a pile.
I have a very particular set of skills...
