    BBC 4 this Wednesday and Thursday. theres a documnetary about TOGWT Starts 10.30 pm Weds,

    The Old Grey Whistle Test Story
    Jo Brand celebrates the life and times of the BBC's first flagship live music programme with a look at the music, the presenters, the TV rivals, the sparse studio and the legacy of the show.

    Followed by The Whistle Test Years showing bands from 1971 onwards,

    First in a series of Old Grey Whistle Test compilations as Bob Harris introduces clips from Curtis Mayfield, David Bowie, Fairport Convention and Roxy Music. [S]

    11:50 pm

    The Whistle Test Years: 1973
    Bob Harris presents live performance from 1973, including music from The Who, John Martyn, Bob Marley and The Wailers, The Average White Band and Ry Cooder. [S]

    Then on Thursday,

    11:00 pm

    The Whistle Test Years
    Raiding the archives for the best of the rock show which ran from 1971 to 1987. With Tim Buckley, Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band, Johnny Winter, Dobie Gray and Graham Nash. [S]

    11:40 pm

    The Whistle Test Years
    Raiding the archives for the best of the rock show which ran from 1971 to 1987. Performances from 1975 including Little Feat, John Lennon, Jackson Browne and Lynyrd Skynyrd. [S]

    With the documentary repeated again at 12.20. and 3am.

    cheers, have not seen the Fairport stuff... anyone know if those are likely to be all the bands playing in a show? can probably miss '75 if so...

    I think these programmes were originally made as a precursor to the first two DVD releases. I think it's the BBC's intention to open up the whole archive for online streaming over the next 10 years.
