    Default Dead Moon

I'm loving the Dead Moon track on the 'Cherrystones Rocks' comp - and would welcome any recommendations in terms of their best stuff and what to look out for. I can't recall ever seeing one of their LP's in the wild - are they a bit elusive in the UK, or have I not been paying attention?

The lp's are not that easy to track down.

I would recommend the comp they put out on Sub Pop, "Echoes of the Past" - not a dud track on it.

also recommended -lollipop shoppe - fred cole's garage band - ' you must be a witch ' is a classic of the genre...Dead Moon is ace,i have a 7" on sub-pop by them , i never realised the two bands were related when i purchased it but one listen to those screwed up vocals and i was hooked !

Recent Dead Moon lps were easy enough to get in the US a while back. I particularly recomend anything with the tracks "Fire In The Western World" and "Fifty Miles Of Bad Road".

I saw them at ATP a good few years ago and was blown away. It was almost empty too as everyone was busy brown noseing Mission of Burma.

I've got that second one (well, I've got one with a track called 40 Miles of Bad Road which has got to be the same one right?) and it's great. I can't remember what the album is called or even if it has a name but I got it after their gig at ATP when they were indeed fantastic.

I've heard the phrase as both 40 and 50 and both scan the same so I can never remember which it is. I bought it round the corner from St Marks in NYC in a shop that mainly seemed to do punk-y stuff.

THE RATS debut lp is well worth checking, featuring Fred Cole also.
Kinda raw new wave punk and weird country tones.
i heard this last year when i was in new york, the guy in the record store said their stuff does'nt show up often and goes for hefty money.
not sure if any of the Rats stuff made it onto cd???

All three Rats lps are excellent. All the Dead Moon lps are worth getting.

I own a bass abused by the band, bought from their music shop, Tombstone.

Is everyone here aware that they just broke up?

The recent documentary on them is fantastic. Went to a screening in NYC a couple years ago for it.

Fred Cole masters their recs on the same machine used to cut the Kingsmen's "Louie Louie."

Totally agree, in fact the whole 'Rocks' comp is Gareth's best yet in my opinion!
Yeah Echoes Of The Past 2XCD is easy enough to get hold of, got it waiting to be listened to on the basis of 'Dead Moon Night'

Thanks, Vultures. I shall get onto that straight away. Even their own record label is rather short on purchaseables (pretty sure I've just made that word up). Typical, a band ticks along nicely for 20 years and I get interested in them a month after they split up. Still, thanks for the tips. I've never said this before - I may never say it again - I don't actually know what it means, but - WORD.

Is that right? I'm not overly familiar with the hippety-hoppety.

Yes, you're quite right. Pedant. You want to be careful, in Gloucestershire being a pedant will get your house burned down.

Well I did end my post with 'WORD' so the comps correct title was obviously floating around in my psyche somewhere, do I get half a point?

Default dead moon, the rats, lollipop shoppe

seldom seen much vinyl in uk, & rarely in the 'states, but i'd recommend a direct approach to order online from tombstone.

suggestions? well, the dead moon version of 'hey joe' might be a useful starting point, but if you can track down a copy of 'she must be a witch,' it's really rather good.

damn, after all these years, they're splitting now!?
