    Default Reggae

I'm just beginning to get into some reggae stuff.

Any tips on what records I need to check for?

Depends what type of Reggae you are looking for: 60's Ska or Rocksteady? 70's Reggae or Roots? 80's Dancehall?

For Ska try any Skatalites Prince Buster, Top Deck or King Edwards.
For Rocksteady try Treasure Isle, early Bunny Lee or early Studio One.
For Reggae try some early 70's Studio One, early Techniques or Bunny Lee.
For Roots try some later Bunny Lee, Glen Brown, Jack Ruby, Augustus Pablo, Lee Perry or Joe Gibbs.
For Dancehall try Jammys, Techniques, Gussie P, Steely & Cleevie or Mafia & Fluxy.

Then there's labels dealing with both modern Roots and Dancehall like Xterminator or Digital B.

Most of the above are either Producers or Labels or both, not artists.

    Good luck!

    Three I would start with:

    Lee Perry - Super Ape
Max Romeo - War ina Babylon
Junior Murvin - Police and Thieves

..Hmmm, a bit of Lee Perry thing going on there but a good place to start
