Default a big fish in a small pond

this is I dunno, a sort of thank you to you all, so bear with me.

in general, I find amongst my friends, I'm somewhat regarded as the one who knows loads about music.

but I find that here, I'm mostly clueless about so much of what gets talked about here, and it's awesome to read and learn as much as I do, and this is truly the best forum I've found for music.

    keep up the good work.

    Bless.

Certainly I also feel a little awed and unworthy with the huge masses of knowledge everyone has. But that's what it's all about, innit - pooling, sharing, geeking about, backpatting sometimes too.

What makes it so nice is everyone is so willing to contribute - in fact I look forward to writing on the forum about any interesting nuggets, or even vaguely diverting stories about cultural minutiae.

agreed... it's great to find people so free with their information. i've learned about a lot of great music in the short while i've been on here.

I occasionally have a bag of records with me when I go to Mr Sayers house and I prefer taking them in the office rather than leaving them in the car.

The women (40/50+ year olds) I work with always ask me what records I have. They always seem surprised not to have heard of any one group....obviously they grew up in the 60's and 70's so should know all of the records that were released during their youth

They are impressed I know so much about music! I only need to come on here to realise I know bugger all!!

as i mentioned recently, I live with 5 girls, who know NOTHING about music, so I am held in awe as well, but it's all relative.

    Thumbs up

I still at least try and contribute where I can. VV has always been good to me. For the few people left on VV that can be bothered with the kind of crap I like, well I can only but try!

I disagree. Billy Idol's solo stuff is much better than anything Generation X ever did.

I have a refreshed appreciation for cheap, common and cheesy records after finding VV...

Don't front on the Welk - I turned up one of his LPs recently which has a nice version of 'Theme From SWAT' and possibly the best versh of 'Barretta' I've heard - Paul Humphries is playing the drums

rest of the LP is pish likes.

On the subject of VV - well I still appreciate it - prog, sike, funk, easy...whatever..I'm always interested in hearing about stuff I don't know (which is a hell of a lot) and opinions on stuff I do know or have forgot. I like the eclectic mix of genres discussed and feel I have personally become more broadminded in my tastes as a result - thanks to one and all!

Man, ain't that the truth. I'm just sitting here patiently waiting for a subject to arise that I might actually know something about and can make a meaningful contribution on.

There are other forums! Surely not - everything is here.

At first I bought records, then I started to collect records; now I merely accumulate records.

Im pretty sure a mate of mine has this but in a diffrent sleeve. If it is then the SWAT theme and that other track you mentioned are really good.. Nice little drum break on it as well if i recall.

Back to the point of the thread, i think i share the same view as everyone above in that i sometimes feel like a complete novice compared to the shared knowledge of this forum. Its a bit like the power rangers, as individuals we have a good knowledge of certain records but when combined we create a super vinyl nerd e-brain.... bit like the borg in star trek or somthing.... im wittering now so ill stop....
Now celebrating over 1000 posts of nonsense.....

Getting back on subject (i hear the moans of displeasure).....
I'm happily suprised by the range of knowledge shown here, people i talk to in the real world (overated pastime) know so much but only about one style of music whether it be prog, soul, psyche, punk etc.
So many of you diamond geezers & gals know so much across the board.
    Good on ya

Thanks - looks great. I would pick it up immediately if spotted in the wild just for the cover! And because I really would like to hear something good with Welk and the selections here are more promising than anything I've seen before with his name on it.
