Default Weekday finds 22nd May onwards

Thought I would start another one as I have found an lp which doesnt seem to appear on google.Havent heard it yet but seems like a library lp

DOMINIQUE ANDRE- EVASION on the Harmonic Library.

    It probably sounds crap.

    Anyway got

BANG ON A DRUM- PLay School lp
JAZZ PANAROMA- East European jazz comp, nice cover anyway.

Nothing amazing here but its been really dry in the charities of late.

Just snuck out of work to the 2p church sale....no joy this week but the charity opposite had a sealed copy of Alec R. Costandinos 'Trocadero Bleu Citron' Sountrack in with all the usual guff...

    79p - a bargain.

It's always nice when they are sealed and you know your the first person to play them!

Might save it for a rainy day

its seems like there is very little info on those Harmonic libraries. I like that 10" , what´s its name. Drama beat or beat drama?

Today & yesterday visited afternoon boot, re-cycling centre and local charities. Picked up the above LP - Bob Israel " Would you like to hear his Music ". Which I am liking a lot. It's basically a promotional tool ( Private Pressing ) of a showcase of his film & TV scoring. Very Library. Some cool funky and jazzy scores here.

    ALSO:

LP's - Walter Wanderley - Batucada / Durutti Column - The Return Of AND Amigos Em Portugal. Jess Roden Band - Play It Dirty, Play It Class.

45's - Ray Charles - Hit The Road Jack / Inez & Charlie Foxx - Tightrope / Quiller - Quiller / Canned Heat - Sugar Bee / Johnny Howard Band - Rinky Dink / Nelson Riddle - Naked City Theme / Mike Cotton Jazzmen - Swing That Hammer / Shadows - Stingray / Johnny Howard Group - Mind Reader / Dorian Gray - Move On / Second City Jazzmen - Buddy's Habits

Not too bad after several dry weeks.

I've found 'Galanti plays it Smart' on Alamo today, I've found several LPs on this label so far and they always pop up in the same charity shop.
The covers make them look like library LPs but I think they are all sales promo records for organs/keyboards. Today's LP has a pretty decent beefy version of Theme from the Godfather.

Anyone know anything about this (UK Based) Alamo label? - I can't find any info online. The ones I have are all produced by organist Jerry Allen.

I don't know too much, but Alamo appears to be Jerry Allen's own label - I quite like Galanti Plays it Smart (Alf Bigden on drums!), and 'The Hands Of Jerry Allen' has a brave attempt at Focus' 'Sylvia' which almost works. My favourite on the label, however, is 'The Hammond Set' which has a great version of 'A Hard Day's Night' on it.

As far as I can tell it was Jerry Allen's label. I even have one that has a 'Jerry Allen Music' price sticker still on it (£4!) so presumably he had a shop at some point. Monty Babson seems to have been involved in the label too and I have one that's arranged by Stan Butcher. Actually the Stan Butcher one ('Organ-ised Strings And Things' by Jerry Allen and the Warm Strings') has a great version of the 'The From The Godfather' too. That along with Les Bonner's version of 'Watermelon Man' (from 'Les Bonner Swings Gently With Farfisa') are the only two tracks of the four albums I've found so far that I come back to. Great cover art as you say though.

Edit: Lord T answered when I was digging out my records.

Just listening to that now. It is rather good. I may have to reappraise.

Default Around the world in a day

Picked up this half dozen from a small town just north of Bristol

Vaughn Meader, et al - The First Family (Cadence) Comedy suite in two acts parodying the JFK Whitehouse. Like all satire it works best within it's own timeframe - so is perhaps a bit lost in the UK in 2007. Nice sleeve, though.
Ivan Lins - Agora (Forma) Brasilian release. A mix of soulful lounge and light funk; very VV, perhaps even known in these parts. Liner notes are all in Portuguese, so I can't offer much background. Could well bring this along to Bristol Brillo some time. The sleeve reminds me of An American Werewolf in London!
Luiz Arruda Paes - Brasil E Samba (RCA) Slick samba. The sleeve construction is weird. A folded piece of white card, not sealed at the top or bottom with the front and rear slicks just attached with one patch of glue. Very fragile design - is this typical of Brazilian records of this vintage.
Dick Nolan - Lukey's Boat (Arc) Newfoundland maritime songs. Had very high hopes for this but sounds rather like an Irish pub-folk record. Canadian release.
Music of India (Saga) 1967 introduction to Indian music. Only had a quick listen and a quick scan of the notes and I don't think these are field recordings, but interesting none the less.
David Fanshawe - African Sanctus (Philips) Operatic prog woven around African field recordings. Had a quick needle drop and it Pprobably sounds better on paper. Dates from 1975. Excellent notes include a picture of Fanshawe with his field recording equipment. Will give it further investigation.

At first I bought records, then I started to collect records; now I merely accumulate records.

I came across this a couple of months ago and was intrigued. I passed after a quick needle drop. I'll be interested to know if your opinion changes on this one.

I won't be rushing back to it. But I sorta like the concept. Knowing me it will probably get filed and forgotten about, and then rediscovered in a few years time....

Ah yes, there was a Jerry Allen Organ Centre somewhere in London, that can briefly be seen in 'Confessions Of A Pop Performer', so I imagine that's where the price sticker came from.

Alamo appears to be some kind of offshoot of Morgan, or at least it has a few of the old Morgan faces like Babson, Butcher and Allen. I've actually got the two you mention as well - I'd forgotten about them, they are quite good! Generally the best ones seem to be the ones where the organist is backed by a proper rhythm section, but that seems to be a rule of thumb for most organ records anyway.

They all seem to be recorded at the Morgan studios too. The other one I have is 'The Hands of Jerry Allen' which if I recall correctly is all organ, no band and plop!!

It's not his best work, but I do quite like his brave attempt at 'Sylvia'!

Thanks a lot to both of you for all the information.
'The hands of Jerry Allen' must've been a bit of a bestseller comparatively speaking as I have it as well, it was the purposely misaligned blue and orange print cover that sold it to me.
Don't remember it too well apart from a tinny primitive drum machine in the background, and something to do with Leslie speakers. Might have another listen tonight if I can face it.

A quick trawl of some charitys saw a slim return:

    British Motown Chartbusters
A clean one. Always nice to get the early motown comps

    Edwin Starr - Contact
    The 12". Had to really

    Donovan - Cosmic Wheels
I know there are some Donovan fans on the board. I know this one's late, but is it any good? Lovely sleeve art inside

The Committee - Sleep Tight Honey/Memories of Melinda
On Pye, Assuming its late 60s bubblegum. I'm encouraged by the B-side being described as "unusual" on the cardboard sleeve.

Finally, some Greek 45 on Minos records. No idea what it is as the label is entirely in the Greek alphabet. Looks like a late 60s pressing. I bought it on the 0.0001% chance its a psyche gem as opposed to the 99.999% chance that its souvenir shite

    dont knock the greeks.

    I like my bouzouki.

I have some nice greek british private press 7s from the late 60's/early 70's - one of them even features some nice hammond action.
