    Graphic Novels

Following on from the Good books thread a few weeks back - what about graphic novels? I imagine there're a few comic fans on here

I've just dug out my set of the 'Preacher' books - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Preacher_comic - and I'd forgotten how absolutely amazing they are.

    Any other faves/recommendations?

Aside from the usual Dark Night Returns, Watchmen, 300, V for Vendetta stuff I'm bonkers for stuff like Jimmy Corrigan and Blankets by Craig Thompson.

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and Marvel 1602. I like things that muck around with history.

Yeah, anything by Alan Moore. I still really like his 2000AD stuff like Halo Jones and Skizz.

I'll second Jimmy Corrigan and anything by Chris Ware although it tends to be pretty depressing.

I really like Scott Morse as well but I suppose he hasn't done that many graphic novels in the traditional sense. Really enjoyed Ancient Joe and Volcanic Revolver.

Also, the original Mangas of the Miyazaki films are exceptional. Seem to remember Nausicaa being particularly impressive.

Monkey vs Robot by James Kochalka is excellent.

              Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi also.

There are so many, I should get down to Gosh Comics again

my favourite is probbly the marshall law series. i love kevin o neills deformed artwork.. it's pretty black humoured with some good social commentary thrown in.it did get more puerile as it went on tho and the artwork got worse but the first few books were amazing.

Alan Moore's Promethea or Top 10 are great.

Still need to read these. I'm actually quite pleased that I've got good Alan Moore left to discover

I'm looking forward to this 'Lost Girls' when it finally comes out in the UK (it's been released stateside, but they have to wait until the end of 2007 when the Peter Pan copyright runs out over here)

slightly different spin on it, i'd recommend anything by Joe Sacco. deeply human.

I'll warn you that not everyone likes Promethea - there is an argument that its basically Moore gassin' away about philosophy.

Another one I would highly recommend is Kings in Disguise by Jack Vance & Dan Burr.

It's a coming of age story set during the depression. Really well written (I think Jack Vance is also a playwright), and beautifully drawn too.
