Default Utrecht Roll Call For November?

Anyone else planning to head out to the fair in November, flights are real cheap right now, just putting the word out there, if anyone wants to go over at the same time, it would be all niceness...

    Hi all,
    First time poster.

I'm heading to this & was wondering if anyone has any recommendations on (affordable) accommodation in the Utrecht area?

Also, I've a few days spare after the weekend..Im flying back to Ireland on the Thursday from Eindhoven. Any suggestions on where to head? (I'd imagine funds & record searching abilities will be at a low after the fair!) Ive done the Amsterdam thing (a few times!) so advice on alternative destinations is welcome..

    Cheers,
    Jeremy

    I've decided to go.......sort of.
The Mrs is coming & we're staying in Amsterdam & now i can see that i'm not gonna get to the fair at all!
Any Dutch beat to be bought at the fair? This might just become a dash for Dutch beat in the end, all looks a bit overwhelming

    I always stay here - http://www.hostelutrecht.nl/

Dead cheap dorm rooms - maybe 20 mins walk to the convention or 5 mins on a bus - loads of diggers go - has a really fun atmosphere with all the instruments and stuff.

This is an attempt at the UK 'irony' thing, right?

This is, by the way, a genuine question, Bev.
It's not intended as a wind-up or anything.
I am honestly curious as to why you would write such a thing.

It might just be me being a lily-livered bleeding-heart liberal and all that, but it's a singularly unpleasant image and concept, is it not?

MMM,that is a bit of ropey comment to make.

On the subject of Utrecht, would you say the records were generally overpriced.I have heard before that a lot of the records on stalls arent cheap.Wahst the general consensus on this?

I'm assuming it's not just me that feels that claiming 'irony' doesn't really excuse this kind of thing.

The idea that there's anything comic - or indeed macho or brave or worthy - in claiming, whether truthfully or 'as a joke', that abusing - physically? mentally? what? - women who end up working in the sex industry, for whatever reasons - did strike me as worth commenting on.

I'll probablt get more promises of checks from tooth fairies now, mind.

My brother's ex up in Edinburgh works with girls trying to go straight and get off the street and abused is exactly what many of them have been. The number of working girls who are raped, assaulted, stabbed, tortured, etc. by johns is terrifying - and most of it goes on under police radars.

Added to that is the fact that the majority of serial killers tend to prey on working women as well, as Ipswich last year was evidence of.

I had a student of mine raped and murdered a few years ago by a guy she got picked up by in a club. Turned out he had a history of abusive assaults on prostitutes.

Excuse me if I choose not to find the machismo amusing.

    Right. Enough.
I'm starting to feel like the manic depressive in Saxondale last night.

And am probably almost as much fun to hang with!

Not been myself, but i know several UK dealers who always go so there must be enough well priced stuff to make it worth their while.
The bad news is that they are Alternative/Indie dealers.

I'm gonna get in that queue first! Still only ever managed to get the Zipps Hipsterism 7"

I'f you need someone to talk to give me a call anytime - except weekdays and weekends*.

Cant be bothered to find the Saxondale thread so I'll just say I liked it again here.

I used to have a friend like that guy. I used to put the phone down (after a few years of trying to help honest), go to the loo and come back - he'd still be droning on none the wiser...poor lad.

*EDIT this is one of those unfunny jokes BTW

Erm...I meant it would seem, judging by Mock The Week that jokes don't have to be funny.

That Punt and Dennis guy needs to bring back the Milky Milky shtick

Can 'Who's Line is it Anyway' (not a Steve Coogan show suprisingly*) sue them?

I know, I was referring to your comment. Not the show. Punt and Dennis should be tried for their crimes to humanity. Why does the BBC keep commissioning these talentless f$%kwits?

    whats this fair like then?
any bargains or is it loads of really expensive records to look at and not buy?
id like to go but im sure id just look and come back with nothing.
though someone said the Arkama stall had a sale and everything was well cheap. id deffinatly go if they were going to do the same again.
though if its anything like the Nec fair then i probably wouldnt bother. loads of over priced stuff and nothing at all i was after.

    Oops..

Hey, if you think my comment was funny maybe I can get my own BBC show...that's one more than think MTW is funny surely. (the audience get free booze you know - they dont count)

Pretty low budget idea...I have a rusty clawhammer and Punty Dennis (whichever he is) is tied to a chair for 30mins whist I try to brush his hair with said hammer really quicky.

Is this kind of abuse OK?

His mentor Carrot was ok though...Funky Moped...'action mans gone scuba diving'

Utrecht is generally split between amazing records at top prices and amazing records for peanuts.

What is cool is that if you go back on sunday and that amazing expensive record is still there, you probably can haggle it down to a decent price. I would avoid the average priced records until sunday.

sunday is also good as lots of stalls just offload records for 1 euro a pop. get dirty.

I enjoy Mock The Week. Mainly I enjoy Frankie Boyle's complete disregard for any accepted form of PC and Russell Howard's geeky humour, but as a whole I think the relaxed format (no three punchlines and onto the next round) works. In any event, there isn't exactly anything unusual about slightly tweaking a successful format to create a 'new' show and Who's Line Is It Anyway? was well past its sell by date when it finished, in my opinion.

Matt is twisting my arm and we may well be going to Utrecht too. I should probably start an eBay fast (next week).
