    Default Insurance

    long time no VV.

been moving house and changing jobs and the like, and ultimately not buying many records.

however, in my new house, I'm attempting to sort out insurance and am finding thast most insurers, especially student ones, go a bit pale when I start asking for like £2500 - £5000 of music insurance.

what do you guys do and how expensive is it?

You shouldn't need to ask specifically for 'music' insurance. I stated that I had a large record collection and was advised to estimate it's value and make sure my total cover was enough for the collection and everything else.... I explained that I have everything on a database and keep a few up to date photos. The problem is when insurance companies think you have deliberately undervalued your contents. I have to say I have insured for rather more than £5000, and my monthly insurance cover is around £50. It is possible to insure the collection separately - perhaps try Hiscox who provide specialist insurance - but it won't be cheap! Hope that's some help.

the problem I have found is that most insurers offer say £6000 worth of cover, but place a limit of £500 or so on CDs and LPs

If we had looked at Hiscox as a group of housemates initially it would have been just the job, but unfortunately, it's too late for that.

I insure my collection with Blake Marston Priest. Specialist collectors insurance, any amount. (Although over £20k your house has to meet certain security requirements)
