    Default Weekend Finds 13th Oct

Bit early I know but I'm off on me hols tomorrow for a week so I think this might be my lot unless I can sneak off to the booter tomorrow

A couple of chazzers, one in the post (Big Hammer - what an LP!!) and the rest from the infamous Jerry Maloy (record boy):

Minty Carlo - Fever (but cost me a bit more than 10p Fuz ) and a nice Dutch He's a Raver. Buzzcocks and weird electroinca 45s from the charities:

Nico is good but crackly (it was a charity find) - need to mint up, Gladys was a Fuz recommendation and is playing now - nice late Motown sound and Big Hammer is probably in the top five libs for me now - smashing:

Sir Lord Baltimore for a decent price (a long time want), the Red Ryders LP is Quincy Jones related instro funky soul (so is Willie Mitchell I suppose) and Mood Mosaic for a very nice price too - soz Fuz

Spleen is another off the wants list, a bit of bubblegum and a bit of psych and a 'what was the point of that?' cover version!

See you all in a week or so - good luck one and all!!

I paid around $150 for it and it was well worth it! Here's the back cover:

It has been reissued in the Olympo sleeve I think:

Just went to a small boot by north weald market, and picked up a few things from dealers

Oh How She Changed- Strawbs (nice and clean)
I'll be your fool once more- Big Al Downing

I'm gonna make you mine (lp)- Lou Christie

this guy had shitloads of good stuff...mostly soul/funk/reggae, which isn't what I'm normally into.
"Not only that but the WHOLE COVER is UNCREASED with only 2 or 3 TINY creaselines near the opening edge about half way down!!!! In the same place (about half way down the opening edge), there is an absolutely TINY and PERFECTLY repaired split" (xxxrecords)

Kai Winding - Dirty Dog (Verve jazz w/ Herbie Hancock from 1966)
Brian Auger - Rca album from 1971, forgot the name
Nilsmen - Sand step (45 without the sleeve)
Lemon - s/t (awful bluesy stuff from Finland 1970 on Love Records)
Anno Domini - On this new day (polydor)

Also left behind a Jericho - s/t from 1972 because it looked boring, a quick look at popsike now makes me wanna cry.

Scored an interesting lot today at the Tenovous in Bangor. A goodish haul too

Laura Yager St on Ovation:- Not quiete the quality of Bonnie Koloc or Heaven and Earth, but the Toy Song had me in stickes (its like women's lib never happened) Nice big band backing too

Annette Peacock X Ray Dreams :- Great stuff, and the great Pete Pavili (high tide )on Bass.... swish

Nancy Michaels Fist Impression on Reprise:- Great cover and a nice little album in a Sandy Denny kind of way

Bush St on Dunhill:- Remember reading there was a break on this one, not listened to it yet. And it ticks the boxes for James Gang side projects

But the Icing on the Cake

The Mandingo Primal Rhythm of Life with the Bird with big Norks banging a Djembe...... Giggidy Giggidy Goo (Is this an Aussie copy as I have another one with just the writting on it

    Weniwe all a £1

Default Play that funky music whiteboy

At the local boot got all 6 of these for a mere £1 ( total not each )
The funk ones are all shrinkwrapped imports.

Gary Toms - 7-1 Blow Your Whistle - toga clad octet, I prefer the non-vocal stuff, the female vocs are a bit too sweet. + 12"

Nancy Wilson - scratchy mor jazz, 17 pence wasted

Yambu- S/T - Latin jazz-funk, with 3 percussionists, & horns, the best of bunch; I don't know what the skeleton wrapped around the moon? is all about.

O'Donel Levy - Everything I Do Is Funky - Jazzy Funk, follow up to classic Simba LP. No the sun isn't shining out of that arse 2nd Fav

The Individuals - Together... - the least funky, more soul really.

I know very little about funk, so I don't know if these are great/well known artists or not.

    & I got these expensive (50p) ones:

Cocteau Twins - Treasure - another 4AD classic this week.

Arthur Lyman - Taboo - Hawaiian vibe led curiosity, jazzy at times, with bird/sea sounds & chilled out version of Miserlou.

Picked these up in a charity shop in Aberdeen. Going back on Monday for more Ike & Tina - there were quite a few of them including a double live album and others who's names escape me, one with a picture of strawberries on the cover. Also a large pile of country stuff I need to explore, plus a few more Blues albums. Didn't have the cash with me on Friday so I hope that no one has found them all, some chance. vladislav

Ike & Tina Turner - 'Nuff Said (United Artists)
    Taste - S/T (Polydor)

Favoured a lie in over an early start this morning, so by the time I got down to the boot sale Mr. Sondek had already cleaned it out. Sloppy seconds can be okay (ish). Lovely cover on the Nancy Wilson album if nothing else.

Nancy Wilson - Naturally (Capital) Excellent big band blues set. Loads of organ in the Billy May charts, and some nice pop upates on tracks like "My Babe" and "Alright, Okay, You Win"; and a cracking "In The Dark".
Linval Thompson - All Night Long (Greensleeves) Slick slow groove.

At first I bought records, then I started to collect records; now I merely accumulate records.

Two great Records there..... and great prices too, the Yamboo one goes for a bit too, I think because of the track Hippopotumus... great drums there .
Gary Toms a nice one too ...... my mate described it as an Earthy Disco record go figure

It might have been a counterfeit (with thicker sleeve?). It does look like a bland rock album & on A&M from 1972 doesn't look promising either, so easy mistake to make.

Really like that Nancy Wilson: had a crackly copy for ages that a VV trade eventually - and fairly recently - managed to upgrade. Nothing obvious or funky, really, just a very classy set of songs beautifully arranged and performed. As for my own finds, pretty pleased with these given the quality to outlay ratio...

Ars Nova - Sunshine & Shadows (US Atlantic)
Sir Douglas Quintet - Together After Five (Smash)
Eric Burdon & War - The Black Man's Burdon (Liberty 2xLP)
John Stewart & Buffy Ford - Signals Through The Glass (Capitol) [Nebraska Widow & Holly On My Mind both stopped me dead in my tracks to listen...lovely songs, and most of the rest's pretty decent too]
The Glitterhouse - Color Blind (Dynovoice) [Bob Crewe produced set from the Barbarella OST house band]
Folkswingers - Raga Rock (World Pacific) [exploito sitar with Eight Miles High, Paint It Black, Shapes Of Things etc]

Les Troubadours du Roi Baudouin - Missa Luba (Philips) ['connoisseur collection' heavyweight gatefold issue with Studs Terkel essay in elaborate inner booklet - never seen this version before!]
Muzsikas - The Prisoner's Song (Hungaroton)
Muzsikas - Blues For Transylvania (Hannibal)
Koncz Zsuzsa - Kertesz Leszek (Pepita) [is this everyone's favourite imaginary girlfriend again? only needle dropped, mainly fairly mellow songs using words from top Hungarian poets like Sandor Weores, Atilla Josef etc]
Niebiesko-Czarni - Twarze (Pronit) [liking this a lot - anyone know if there's any others by them worth seeking out?]
David Fanshawe - Arabian Fantasy (EMI) [DF signed inner sleeve too!]

Various - Good God! A Gospel Funk Hymnal (Numero 2xLP)
    Extradition - Hush (Guerssen reissue)
Jack's Angels - Restless (Amadeo) [tracking suggests standard sounding Greenwich Village folk but need to listen properly]
Vaughan Meader - The Second Coming (Karma Sutra) [comedy/spoken word thing with Meader as a hippy Jesus returning to earth in 1970...lots of groovy verbal schtick but not much music by the sounds of it]
Julien Baer - Churchelle (French Polydor 2x10") [kind of electronica/chanson, but lacks the punch of his stuff with Bertrand Burgalat I think]
The Slits - Cut (Island) [minty original of post punk/dub classic]

I nabbed a copy of that dirt cheap over in Portland last year, Al.
Very respectable stuff, if not out-standing.

One or two tracks put me in mind of 'De Capo' era LOVE or hit a bit like 'Forever Changes' demos. That kind of terrain.

I like this one, the break is nothing great but the album is good with hard drums from start to finish. Easy to find too.

Looks like some half decent records picked up by the VV folk. Just a couple of average records for me this weekend.

Melanie - Garden In The City (Buddah)
I'd read on forums (possibly VV) that this LP had a decent souly folk track. Well People In The Front Row is the track and pretty good it is to. NB Liking the rub 'n' sniff scented sleeve on this...still perfumed after 34 years and in better shape than me!

The Ventures - The Horse (Liberty)
I only own a couple of Ventures LP's but this by far is the best. Good cover versions of The Horse, Here Comes The Judge, Licking Stick - Licking Stick and a couple of nice originals. Incidentally this was their 29th LP and it was only 1968! Prolific, if nothing else

What's the Korean stuff, Peechee? There's a great track on that Lizzy Merier Descloux LP. I'm Liquor I think it is.

No photos for the moment. Might stick some up later.

Through the mail this morning but still very much a find.
Ichiyanagi Toshi, Michael Ranta & Kosugi Takehisa - Improvisation Sep. 1975. Limited edition reissue of legendary dronefest session. Superb!

From Back Trip, the shop I posted about before:

    Les Baxter - Helles Belles
Love, Peace & Poetry - Asian Psychedelic Music
These were in the regular racks but still cheap enough to pick up.

    Everything else below was JPY100

    LPs and 12s
Rain Parade - Crashing Dream. Late 80s psychedelia. Saw them live in Edinburgh when this LP came out.
Tabu Ley - C'est Comme ca la Vie. Later effort from Rochereau. Synths listed prominently so not getting my hopes up.
Djo Nolo - Playboy. Hmm ... see above
    23 Skidoo - Language 12
Severed Heads - City Slab Horror. Been getting into this band of late.
Jalaleddin - Belly Dance Music. Privately (?) released San Francisco 1976
Irmin Schmidt & Bruno Spoerri - Toy Planet. Can man and toy instrument bloke. Upgrade.
Great Moment of Vinyl History - Andy Kershaw curated comp from 1988 with amusing Crumb-esque cover art. Mainly stuff from his radio sessions, though no Bhundu Boys curiously enough. A great Orchestra Baobab track is the one on here.

    7s
Art Bears - All Hail. Recommended Recs flexi.
Miyazaki-ken folk songs. Great cover of one of the dragon masked dancers. Handy dance step instructions inside.
    Gunfight Music. Flexis
    Film Music of 1962. Flexis
Okumura Chiyo - Kokoro wa ...
    Okumura Chiyo - Hokkaido skies
Okumura Chiyo - Ame no Osaka. Three singles from 60s pop princess.
Mescaline Drive - In the Midnight Hour. The band that went on to become Soul Flower Union
Spiders - Sora no Hiroba. GS action
    Kemuri - Kirisame. Japanese Ska
    Archers of Loaf - Wrong.
    Yello - I Love You/ Rubber West. 1983 Vertigo
Brentford Allstars - My Sweet Lord. Organ instrumental on B side should be fun, I hope
The Sound Way to Easy Reading - Vowels & Consonants
Johnny Wakelin in Zaire - You Got the Bug. french 1976
Joe Yamanaka - Proof of the Man. Solo effort from Flower Travellin' Band singer
Minami Haruo - Music of Lupin San Sei. High hopes for this as I'm a fan of the films
Carmen Maki & Oz - Watashi wa Kaze. Melodramatic hard rock
The Fall - Free Range/ Everything Hurts. "Individually Hand Painted Limited edition", it boldly proclaims. just looks grubby to me ...
Julian Cope - Greatness and Perfection of Love. Good old Copey. Love this track.
Voices of Tabernacle - Jesus/ The Love of God. On Hob records, curiously enough ...
Damon Edge - I'm a Gentleman. I'm a big Chrome fan, but less keen on his solo stuff.
Ofra Haza - Im Nin Alu
Edith Piaf - Non, je ne regrette rien. Good excuse to get pissed, this!

and a rather odd Madonna pic disk from Holland which seems to be a bootleg mix of hits of 1988
