    Default Where's Mr. Sheep?

Can I just be the first to say hats off to the mods for letting sense prevail on this one?

Mr. Sheep made me as curious about hip-hop as Wallace did about Prog, which isn't really what should be occuring here. The worst possible caricatured advert for a genre they claim to love! And both prone to conflate dislike of their own antics with musical bias or prejudice on the part of others. As well as also sharing a love of baiting.

I still harbour a sneaking suspicion they were both the creation of the same sick genius somewhere in Oklahoma.

I too was a recipient of a whole string of PMs threatening various acts of violence, which didn't endear me to the fella much. I suspect I was simply one of many - and as Peter Sundae pointed out, you wouldn't half end up busy if you were going to bother going round carrying out such nonsense.

If it wasn't quite so Ali G, it'd be kind of tragic.

Still, as the man once said, you plays yerself.

A perspicacious comment to Sheep on SoulStrut:

"Why do you always reference that site? If you don't like it you prolly shouldn't post there."

    Couldn't put it better myself...

    ...in da pen!

At first I bought records, then I started to collect records; now I merely accumulate records.

Attention!!! I know this is a very expensive Price for the record. This i one of my most beloved Records, so my primary intention isn't the selling. I like it in my collection. I only will sell it, if someone wants it that much, that he is willing to pay that much money. Therefore the unrealistic price. Please don't tell me about it. I don't want to cheat ,I don't force someone into buying it, I don't want to drive up the price. Thanks for understanding

You are, of course, perfectly entitled to believe this to be true.

You are also, however, also perfectly entitled to express your disagreement without expecting to receive PMs threatening visits from tooth fairies or hurling personal abuse.

It was a lack of understanding of the second part of this contract on Mr. Sheep's part that has perhaps led to some of this.

That said, given that cringeworthy means making you feel embarrassed or ashamed, I fail to see why you personally should be cringing.

Despicable biting bitches we may be, of course!

    Thumbs up

Bev's alright by me, he carried my box for literally fucking miles at Edinbrillo (as did the honourable Mr. Scabies - where are you these days?)... cos he knew my back was fucked in the long term, I kept attempting to grab it back but he wouldn't have it, I know he seems to have gone out of his way to piss a few people off round these parts of late, and while I'm all for a bit of devil's advocate I don't condone unneccessary bullshit, Bev's a wind up merchant coming from a different slant, as far as I see it, it ain't my slant to be honest but meet him in the flesh, personally speaking, he's alright by me... I can honestly say I think he's one of the good guys... Probably not the most popular of posts right now, but like I say, nowt wrong with a bit of devils how's your father... I think if people are genuinely affected by the nature of his posts they should resist the temptation to fall into this kinda carry-on, albeit freedom of speech and all that, if people don't want that slant on here then don't add to it... do yourselves and everyone else a good turn like...

I dunno, maybe I'm just pissed and joyous that the Toon didn't get spanked by The Mighty Arse this eve... and I ain't trying to bait you Hugh!!!

    Ooooof!!!...

Hope this doesn't touch any tender nerves, just thought it right to spout forth and say my bit...

Each to their own... (and no doubt leaving myself wide open to a torrent of abuse!)

I'd like to mention that my (poorly worded) question to the mods at the end of the last post I made, was purely rhetorical. I'd like to apologise publicly to them if it sounded like I was calling their competence into question !

Surely, the best response to bad speech is more speech. Disagreement is fine and is healthy - (I'm quite happy to get into lengthy debates with those who disagree with me, I think it is a good intellectual exercise) but without violence or intimidation - real or implied- as that is censorship, not debate, it has no place in a discussion among reasonable, educated people. I don't threaten people and I don't expect them to do so to me. 'do as you would be done by' as it were.

I'd also like to make it clear to dj sheep if he is reading, or anyone else, that at no time did I intend to attack him on a personal level in any post. I can only assume there was a misunderstanding or a persecution complex at work there.

sorry for rambling. off to spin some sounds now.

I like Ipswich more than Norwich, but then that shouldn't come as any great surprise to you young Colin, saying as you seem to be my 'top match' time after time on the old facebook... if it doesn't work out with you, yours and the bairn, you know where I am mate...

I'm not going to bother to read the whole Pimp C thread, so don't take this in the spirit of me defending Sheep necessarily..but I thought it was pretty low class to start making sideways comments about 'Gangster rap' in a 'rest in peace' thread.

I mean if you don't like hip hop/ new hip hop/ southern hip hop than whatever, everything isn't for everybody..but show a little respect for human life, and for anybody that dedicates their life to music.

By the way a close family friend passed away a while ago, he was a cool dude, you never met him or have any knowledge of him, but could you post unmeaningful & ridiculous RIP posts for him - or throw your hands in the air and light your lighters - or what ever gangsters do, throw dice at a wall with an 8 ball in a brown paper bag in ya (sic) hand?

This is VG+ forum - our drive by's are on choppers with pea shooters - act like ya know

For what it's worth, I checked out some of the tunes recommended and was moved by "One Day". My little brother died at the same age as Pimp C and there's no two ways about how much it sucks for a life to end so soon.

I don't know anything about gangsta rap, but I like Celine so I can't knock it.

That Sheep keeps threatening Hugh is hilarious. Couldn't Hugh smash him with a single blow of his enormous fist? He should change his name to Huge.

No, i think there's some good knowledge in this place, especially in the travel forum...
I just find it embarrassing to read all this mocking "yo gangsta" type thing, as it seems extraordinarily out of touch and nerdy. The reference to your friend was moot, as Pimp C was someone who rapped, and also produced beats and dedicated his life to music, and this is a music forum with people with a diverse range of tastes (which i'm coming to realise doesn't include hip hop).

Most of the rare hip-hop I find here in Philly gets sold to folks on this site.

This forum has a lot of time for Hip Hop, if you search the archives you will see this.

Is my point any more moot if the person involved championed soul music and brought it to people who were never exposed to it?

This is not about knocking any individuals, but steppping away from stereotyped & formulaic "gangsta" nonsense.
When the issue was linked to the Philly soul optimism of the seventies earlier, there was a chance that this discussion could of progressed in an informed and intellegent manner, but it would appear that this is not the case.
I feel my reference was valid, and the nerdiness reference is welcomed.

A sly dig at the forum via the "travel section" is a bit out of line, this ain't Wish You Were Here & I (we?) ain't Judith Charmers.
