Having been on the raz for a month - a quiet weekend of DVDs and music catching up...

Jooklo Duo - Live In Itri (Qbico, 10") - honking skronking Free-ish Jazz blowout

Part Wild Horses Mane On Both Sides - Low Fired Clay Escape (Carnivals, LP) - chilled Taj Mahal Traveller-ish styled epic sounded scapes...

Part Wild Horses Mane On Both Sides - Poisson (MIE, LP) - As above, but possibly ever deeper than the first LP in sound

Angus MacLise / Jack Smith / Tony Conrad - Dreamweapon I (Boo-Hooray, LP) - not that keen on the Jack Smith poetry side, but the other side fits nicely with Part Wild Horses in mood

Angus MacLise / Tony Conrad - Dreamweapon III - (Boo-Hooray, LP) - Fantastic deep listening - again fits nicely with Part Wild Horses

The Frogs - My Daughter the Broad (Matador, LP) - An LP you either love or hate I guess - quite out there and not for everyone - I kind of have a morbid facination with the LP - what in hell inspired this out-pouring - one step beyond the Sun City Girls Alan Bishop "Uncle Jim" recordings...

The Paperheads - Focus In On... The Looking Glass (Trouble In Mind, LP) - Second vinyl release by the Paperheads, but really their first release on tape put to vinyl - quality bit of neuvo-psych

Metronomy - The English Riveria (Becasue Music, LP) - Quality modern pop LP - possibly the modern Human League - top songs - quality mix of guitar, synth-pop and electronic beats of ye old warp-factor origins - damn free CD is well hidden in LP sleeve pocket - I only found it today

Great record! Treated myself to that (and a couple of other Jooklo lps) a few months back, great recording. Have you heard the latest Finnish Jooklo Quartet lp? Some blinding tracks on it.

Lots of interesting stuff you posted there, MPFlapp... never heard any of them.

I've been enjoying this new download EP thing this afternoon:

"Helical Sweep" is doing it for me most - - love those drums.

I have the this Finnish Jooklo Quartet LP - one sided - I must of got the last in the batch - it looks like it was shot at with a scatter gun on the non music side - quite bad bubbles in the press

    Is there another one?

    Yep, this one:

Sami Pekkola (sax) isn't on this one though, instead they've got Topias Tiheäsalo playing guitar, which sometimes works and sometimes sounds like he's not really aware of the others. Pressing is both sides and 300 copies, should still be around cheaply. Here's a sip of the juice:

I trust the music side side of your lp plays OK though?

It sort of plays but not like a flat press - a friend has one that is perfect

The craters are on the no-play-side which make for some real steep hills on the playing side - The LP was from what I would not class as a well shady small German distributor - no reply to the emails for an exchange/refund based on the pressing - I guess they knew before posting - - still nice to have

That's a shame My copy doesn't have any defects, so i'd be surprised if it was on most of them. If I see a copy about then I'll let you know. I know there used to be one still in the racks of a shop here but I haven't been in there for months now. Will check next time I'm near though... Do you know the deal behind the pressings? I heard they live near a pressing plant in Italy, so they just rock up with the master and get the one-sided press done in a small number super-quick.

I thought that too - Qbico - always did small odd runs...

I might stick with my bubbled copy as it wasn't cheap - not sure if it is a record I'd want two of...

Do you the know 45 below on Northern Spy Records - well worth a punt..?

Yep, got that one at the same time as the 10". It didn't hit me so heard on the first few listens, I think I was reaching my quota of full-on free jazz at the time. I need to pull it out again soon.

Vernon Wray, Wasted (Sebastien Speaks) reissue. Just received this and it is great country with humourous Kris K style lyrics. First listen and it's a beauty.

That Frogs is a big favourite around here. I love the songs about Granma and Granpa. Its probably their peak although 'It's Only Right And Natural' is great too. Somewhere I have a bunch of live and unreleased recordings from their site, don't if they still have them.

The Mr Bongo Compilation "Psychedelic Pernambuco". I have a lot of it from the Satwa LP and some of the other Lula Cortes Lps but there is other stuff on here from Cortes' chums. Great stuff.
