Default sorry o/t extract a picture from a pdf?

Just wondering if any of you guys know this. My mum has sent me some pictures wrapped up in a pdf document. What I really want is the jpeg. Does anyone know how to extract the picture element only.

A pdf is a kind of picture format, even if it is multi-pages. It is not like a word document where pictures are 'inserted'. Therefore your best bet is to use any picture opening software you might have - ie. Photoshop - and open the pdf in that. Usually you will be asked to select which page you want to open, if there are more than one, and then save as jpg.... If you have a full version of adobe Acrobat (the pdf reader and creator software) you can directly save file as a jpg.... A shorthand way of doing it (at least on a mac) is to use the 'grab' feature (or something similar) which takes a screen-grab, or window-grab and saves as a low resolution image.

steve, thanks for the advice. Unfortunately my old version of photoshop doesnt have a pdf option nor do my other picture manipulating software have this. Looks like I'll have to keep looking.

In the latest acrobat reader, I can choose the "select tool" from Tools->Select and Zoom menu, click the image, right click and copy it to the clipboard and then paste it as a new image in an image editing thing.

Yes, and you should be abe to do this on any version of Acrobat, I think. At least, there's always been a Select tool.

You could just open the pdf then do a print screen - then just paste this into any image editor.

So, are you saying your mum knows more about computers and software and shit than you do?

    That's not supposed to happen...

I saw a program in pcworld on the weekemd called something like pdf convert (?) It was 30 quid or so and would extract data from a pdf and turn it into a word doc.

whether it'll work for you is another thing. I didn't really take much notice of it as I was lloking for a firewire cable, but I didn't know there were such porgrams.
