    Default Moses Is Dead

So, Charlton Heston is dead. Now somebody can get his gun away from him.

Although in recent years he had increasingly become associated with right wing politics and extreme conservatism, it is a fact that he was one of the first high-profile white personalities to support Martin Luther King and the Civil Rights Movement. Contrary sort of person - or do we all just get more reactionary as we get older?

Let's not forget that he also made some great films - 'Ben Hur' is one of the all-time Hollywood epics - a beautiful piece of work - and he personally ensured that Orson Welles directed 'Touch Of Evil', turning it from a b-movie potboiler into something far more substantial. I'm sure lots of board members would also have love for 'Soylent Green' and 'The Omega Man'. For me, however, it's all about 'Planet Of The Apes' (& 'Beneath the POTA') - another obsession. I must have watched those films a hundred times apiece - and I always used to come to the same conclusion about Heston -I didn't like him in the slightest (he was always unsympathetic and arrogant) - but there was something about him that was believable and worthy of respect.

This was before he started wearing that acrylic wig, of course, which somewhat demeaned him.

Anyway - thanks, Chuck - some of your films were brilliant.

I'd go with the omega man as well. My favourite bit is when he breaks into the dept store and decides to steal the tracksuit. Very now.

And I live in Doncaster. What's that thing where tracksuit wearers that aren't sportspeople tuck their 'trackie' bottoms into their socks so you can see how grey and stained their hosiery is? Is there a name for it, and what's it for?

Couldn't agree more about the Omega Man
I've been loving the Ron Grainer soundtrack for a long time - although I could never afford the ridiculous amounts that the CD goes for on ebay
Planet of the Apes is also good but its pretentions just get too much for me

But he was also in masses of complete rubbish

Is there a Soylent Green soundtrack available?

I loved the fact that in Tim Burton's remake of Planet of the Apes, Heston's character's death-bed act (now as a dirty, stinking ape), is to pass on a gun (from his presumably cooling) hands.

    Thumbs down

Sad news indeed - I had always hoped someone would pop a cap in his ass. Tosser.
SEALED, this has a sticker on the front reading "COLOUR VINYL" so it's probably not black vinyl, even though black is a colour.
