Default Go on then! Weekend finds May 2nd onwards

    The trailer....

This lot came from the recycle centre today. £1.57 an LP! A price I can live with.

The two african ones here were also from the recycle centre, the Public Enemy from a charity shop in a sleepy market town. It's the double reissue, incidentally. Sun Ra was a trade.

More charity shop jazz, different place though, 50p each. The two jelly Rolls were the ones I mentioned last week.

The two Fairport Conventions were from the recycle place - they were thrown in for free!

Tom Rush and the Japan LP are the only things from a proper record shop, MVE in Birmingham. Nick Cave and the Grossman/Renbourne were from a boot sale last weekend.

The Mar-keys was a 50p charity shop find. The remainder here were from the boot sale. The Joystrings are a Salvation Army pop/psych group that featured in the recent Radio 4 programme about Xtian pop. Really good.

Why am I showing you these? All Israeli pressings. All from the recycle centre.

Which leads on to these... the top ones are childrens LPs, the bottom two prog/psych and jazz/folk/pop repectively.

Some strange EPs from around the globe. The Israeli thing in the centre is good. The first track has a soft-psych feel.

Another interesting 45 that came my way. Great B side.

    And some weird stuff...

Sorry about the thin notes but I just haven't got the time right now to add much more. I will mention that Cannonball thing on Blue Note is a total facemelter. All live.

Some very cheap garage wins on tradera, the swedish ebay-site, from some middle aged woman.

The Blues Magoos - Feelin Time/Never Going Back To Georgia
Paul Revere & The Raiders - Happening 68/Too Much Talk
Paul Revere & The Raiders - The Great Airplane Strike/In My Community
    --------"---------------- - Ups And Downs/Leslie

I guess they're all pretty "pop", but at least Too Much Talk is great psych. And they were 50p each.

    Great stuff
I should speand more time at the recylcing centre and give up stupid chazzas
The Cannonball is absolutely amazing - I love it
And I'm pleased to see that Paul Rogers has done something else except for pretending to be Freddie Mercury

Finally managed to turn up a reasonably priced Mint copy of this gem.

Often goes for silly money, especially the UK press, I guess because of the Roger Hodgson/Supertramp connection.

This may well be the kind of track Highland Cow was dissing when commenting on Fading Yellow, but these ears it's aching, haunting, naggingly catchy orch-sike-pop genius. Bizarrely, the sweeping, swooping outro is reminiscent of Oasis to boot!

Defenitely a buy, but feeling very much chuffed anyway. Won a Ogden's Nut Gone Flake on tradera.com from yet another middle aged woman (you just have to love them) for what I think is a very reasonable price.
It's seems to be in EX condition and is a danish press. Anyone know about danish vinyl quality, ca 68?

The "Anthipone Blues" is highly sought after by the Asian Audiophlie crowd, it should pay for most of your score's if you ebay it off.

Absolutely not this is a great 45.

Didn't you but this ages ago as a B.I.N.?

I too would love a copy but the uk one seems to go for about £100 now.

I love SOME of the tracks on the fading yellow comps I just think there's some right pish on them too.

I think it's the curse of the CD again. I'd rather listen to 14 great tracks than a 30 track CD where half of it is filler.

I don't equate value for money by the running time of a comp.

Not that anyone should pay for the fading yellow comps of course but that's a whole other argument we've been over many many times.

    Default Boot booty

After writing off my car in a crash this week, my wife still let me use her car to go to a couple of boots, one of which yielded 10 LPs for a mere £2:-

    Jazz /ish:

Folk 'n' Country & Brummy Ska:

err New Wave Indie Dance Rap 'n' stuff:

12": The Message, for the wife to rap along to

7": John Barry Seven "Hit & Miss" (Juke Box Jury Theme)
    & Len Barry "1-2-3" & "Like A Baby" (Northern Soul I believe)

while i was looking through a load of punk 7"s at a boot sale today a guy reached over me and snapped up a 45 in a planet company sleeve ...turned out to be 'the league of gentlemen' a pre giles / fripp band i think - anyone know if any cop?

I must admit i'm still fucking seething he got it for a quid and i walked away with a load of mint pistols and damned gear...you know when something really pisses you off?

Well one day into the bank holiday and i'm a little miffed - i was hung over so i never said anything to him about his disorderly conduct - should have laid him out !!

Sure record etiquette has been discussed on here before...

straight to the important stuff: it was the boot just past that pub/roundabout where all the bikers meet off the A38. It was a 20p one too, but don't worry it's not all that.

Crash, lowish speed, I was more worried 'bout my little boy who hurt his tummy on the seatbelt. Very stressful as I had just got car back from garage at a cost of over £300 about an hour before Still, The Simon Sound 20p

    .

    Ouch!

I've not actually heard it but even the sleeve's worth a tenner.

    Well out of order.

what a tosser - I spose most people with a passing interest in vinyl knows that Planet is collectable - it is a pretty expensive one but pretty average sound-wise - you didn't miss out on a keeper, just on a mark-up - so hopefully that softens the blow Si

I once had a bloke do the same to me. Further along the carboot the pillock was looking through more records so I stood behind him rifling through the record bag strapped to his back. He wasn't amused but he got the message.

Nothing but sour grapes from me today...the local books/records chazza that I go into most days has been planning to do a stall at a shitty local band festival (£15 to see 8 local singer songwriters sing songs about mung beans)- just stuff they hadn't shifted for months in the shop that I'd seen before. EXCEPT...some bright spark thought it would be a good idea to take a massive donation that just came in from someone who used to work for CBS. I knew this, and was going to take a look on friday, but couldn't shit out of a rehearsal for a festival I'm playing next week...

It pains me to know there is a bunch of stuff there that I'd love to flick through, that is probably bargainatious at book prices, but I'd have to shell fifteen quid to look at it. Just found out a local psych nemesis picked up the first Blossom Toes album

Realistically I'd probably not have bought it (was a hundred quid) but the thought of all the records I want that are potentially there- (I'm thinking both Trees albums, Ramases and Selket single, Thane Russal in picture sleeve, Odessey and Oracle etc) is torturing my brain
"Not only that but the WHOLE COVER is UNCREASED with only 2 or 3 TINY creaselines near the opening edge about half way down!!!! In the same place (about half way down the opening edge), there is an absolutely TINY and PERFECTLY repaired split" (xxxrecords)

    It's brilliant!!!! Absolutly facemeltingly brilliant!!

It's called "Deep Groove! The Best of" Yet many of the recordings appear to be live takes. Covers capital releases from the late 60s through the early 70s and is staggeringly funky.

At first I bought records, then I started to collect records; now I merely accumulate records.

Just listening to this now, I can understand why. Fired up the electrostatics in its honour. Probably a keeper I think.

A couple of the haul were audiophile pressings and suchlike, and every one of the jazz albums are in stone-cold perfect condition. The content of the haul is piano dominated but all worthwhile stuff at the price.

Yeah, i'm liking this Antiphone Blues. It's duets between sax and a church organ recorded in a church in Sweden; the acoustics are breathtaking. Same chap who was involved with Jazz at the Pawnshop?

Some nice finds Piglet.I must check out Brighton's own recycling centre.

Got loads of stuff yesterday and today in my sojourn up to London, with the last day tomorrrow. Will post all the finds later when i return tomorrow. Just like to say discovered the haunts of North london, Alans in Finchley, Flashback in Crouch Hill and the Ocean Books place in Stoke Newington. Needed more time to browse there though. On the 73 bus back to Victoria form said bookshop noticed Haggle Vinyl and the other Flashback in Essex Road. Hope they are open tomorrow ,. otheriwse its back to the MVE Camden shop.

Also got rid of a third of those 80s singles for six quid exchange at MVE Notting Hill as well, and with other things had £21 in xchange. Pics also tomorrow.

Yes I think it's the same recording engineer. A hard one to find, I have only scored one copy, in comparison to 6-7 copies of Pawnshop

Just picked up a massive haul at a couple of boots. Probably nothing earth shaking, but lots of interesting looking stuff

    12s

Benny and the Duke- Ray Davies orchestra
    Cliff Bennett- driving you wild
    modern indian film music (hmv)
    Ravi Shankar- music of india
    Classical Songs from films
Talat Mahmood- in a blue mood
    Do- Badan (ost?)
Noor Jahan- memorable songs of melody queen
    This is Talat Mahmood
    Asha Bosle- s/t
Lata Mangeeshkar/Hemant Kumar-Modern motion picture music of india
Geeta Dutt- hit songs from films

All that bollywood stuff is probably too early to be GREAT, but I haven't got any indian stuff, and it was 50p a pop, so I thought I'd give it a go

    7s
    palisades park- freddy cannon
shakin all over- johnny kidd (might finally stop buying this...this copy looks nice and clean )
    I don't understand- Nola York
    water or the wine- Karlins
Love in- Curtis Knight (x2...picked these up in a hurry - thought it was two different singles!)
    bama lama loo- Little Richard
    Ally Oop- Hollywood Argyles

and something by Andy Bruns, John Huscroft and Evan Parker...looked jazzy and interesting. Will spin and report back

*edit* missed out this one- Robin's Rumpus by Robin Garton and his band on martello records. !!! Just span it and my jaw hit the floor. I'll try and sort a soundclip

Here's a link to that Robin Garton track...let me know what y'all think

Is this 'brit jazz?' Looks like a cabaret record, and there's some connection with pirate radio by the looks of it
