I'm quite happy with the haul i got over the weekend from varying sources. Some from the market some trades and some bought off a fellow vultures.

    Singles

Zapp - more bounce to the ounce/brand new player (wb)
    Classic.

Mandrill - Get it all/Cohelo (poltdor)
Didn't recognise the track when i spun them, think ive got the lp somewhere.

Mandrill - the road to love/armadillo (polydor)
    See above.

Jimmy Mcgriff - Fat cakes/sugar,sugar (capitol)
Fat cakes is pretty solid jazz funk number.

Paul Nicholas - lamp lighter (rso records)
    Pretty well known freakbeat cheapy....Spare

    Chicago - i'm a man (cbs)
    Nice to have on single.

Afrika Bambaataa & the soul sonic force - looking for the perfect beat (21 records)
    Couldn't resist.

Stretch - why did i do it (anchor)
    Spare.

William Devaughn - be thankful for what you've got (chelsea)

Count Willie with LRL and the dukes - Double funk (brown dog)
    Funky instrumental.

Curtis Knight -Love in/fancy meeting you here (rca)
Love in is doing it for me, anyone know what lp it's off?

The Edgar Winter group - Frankenstien/undercover man (epic)
    Bonkers a side....Cheers Sie mate.

Mayfields mule - moonshine/ double dealing woman (parlophone)
B side wins again. Cheers Sie.

Haven't had chance to go through the LP's yet. I traded the polish stuff off a friend the others were off Boney...Cheers mate.

Well, here's what I brought back from Copenhagen, with a day trip to Malmo. Many thanks to Mr. Brainbomb, who was a true gent and an excellent host. Without him we wouldn't have made it to a very cool thrift store where I found the following...

The Last Run soundtrack, well known I believe... good crime jazz / cop show stuff by jerry Goldsmith.

Berry Lipman for Dancing - Happy Party music, rather good in a easy listening way, I suspect Lord Thames will know & like this one...

Top Hits 71 - Al Shapiro and his Orchestra - A rather pleasant surprise as the usual bog standard cover versions included decent goes at Neathanderal man, All right now and 24 or 6 to 4, aswell as a great original called Girl I've got news for you

A Soupy Sales record - I've always wanted to hear him after reading about him in Cool and strange music fanzine.

and a couple of bad Swedish seventies folk / pop bands with matching uniforms, sleeves were better than the music - you were right of course Mr. Brianbomb!!!

Then it was on to the Swedish record stores, all of these came from the cheapie boxes, all a couple of quid

Thomas Jefferson Kaye - First grade, two or three good country rock tunes.

Charlie D. and Milo - S/T, this one may take a while to sink in soft country sike light, might describe it...

Randy Burns and the Sky Dog Band - S/T, bought this on a memory of Belson talking about one good track on the album, but I can't find it...

Gunhill Road - S/T, rubbish avoid at all costs

Pugh - Pughish, excellent and well known and revered round these parts, abit scuffed so cheap, plays fine though...

Best of CCS, needs no introduction

The Quinaimes Band - S/T, funky rock, lovin one tune in particularly

    Ned - S/T, rubbish

Lovecraft - We love you whoever you are, singer is Lalomie Washburn, just a bit too much synth and disco for me, but certainly has appeal.

The Kids - Anvil Chorus, ball out rock mostly, but surprisingly adept and varied, but my god they're ugly!

The Family Dogg - S/T, as someone else noted on here this week, despite the crack sessioners and members of Led Zep, this record sucks.

Sunday Funnies - S/T, I think I like the second album better but this still has great funky rock moments. Anyone know how many albums these guys put out?

The Human Condition - Working people gonna rise! A small label american folk protest record, surprisingly strong and a quick google shows the smithsonian have archived it!

Raices - S/T, latin jazz rock of the most furious sort, for serious jazzers...

Nashville Gold - Switched on moog, with a version of polk salad annie how can you go wrong?

Crowfoot - Find the Sun, more solid funky country rock

Pugh & Rainrock - Ett Steg Till, recommended by Brainbomb, and it's good too, especially their version of what appears to be a Meters song - Afrika, although I can't recall the original version

Waterloo - S/T, odd record, poppy, proggy, bonkers, gonna have to listen again...

Also picked up Bernt Staf and Pryde 45's

    and so to Copenhagen

    The fleas threw up...

Sebastian - Den store flught, on harvest, appears to be Danish hippy folk, quite nice in parts, but I couldn't eat a whole one.

Demos 23, Rode Mor, Linie 3 - Dunno much about this Danish protest music from the early seventies with fuzz bass in parts. Pretty good but verges on cabaret a bit... Any Danes fill me in on the story on this one?

Tommy Seebach - Wheels, loving his version of Baby elephant walk, funky as and appearing at the next Eclectic Mud and no mistake... Has this fella done anything else worth while? Calling all Danes...

I managed the central and Norrebro branches of Accord but Second Beat was closed when I got there!

The woman in the Norrebro branch sure doesn't like her job does she?!
Still managed to bag the following without breaking the bank.

Dansons a Brasilia - Help. latin cover versions of Beatles, stones etc

Tommy James & the Shondells - Travelin, been looking for a cheap copy for a while.

Bethlehem Asylum - Commit yourself, so far underwhelmed by this...

    and a couple of 45's

Jericho Jones - Time is now / Freedom, Funky Rawk
Chris Hodge - We're on our way / Supersoul, bought on your advice Lee - Good advice!

And on the way back from the airport, dropped in to a local chazza when I went out for a pint of milk and brought back...

Moog at the Movies - Synthetic sounds, excellent version of Superfly
Great TV Themes - The Tony Osbourne Sound, enjoyable versions of Star treck, Hawaii 5-0 and the theme to Coronation street!!!

Oh yes, I know Lipman's work well - not sure if I have this one, though, but a lot of his stuff was recycled from LP to LP. A fair bit of it also appeared as library music on Selected Sound.

Tell me more about this Al Shapiro Orchestra LP - it sounds very interesting! I'd like to hear the version of '25 or 6 to 4' if I can, as there's a particular version I'm trying to track down at the moment......

But it's a boring boring record.

I've only got the 45 and the other side is pants so I've not really tried to try and track the album down.

Now that I know there's a nice Uk pressing on Mojo I may try a bit harder!

That LP also has 'You're the fool' on, which is great - more straight up funky soul than Minnie Riperton though. Which is not altogether a bad thing imo...

Brilliant - ta! By the looks of it, there may be an RKM/El Chicles connection, which makes it all the more interesting.......

Collage is a winner. I've got a spare copy of the LP too if anyone's interested(?)

Collage is a cover of a James Gang track which is on the LP with Funk #49. The original's good but the Three Degrees version is something else.

The title track 'Maybe' is nice melodramatic spoken word soul - includes the line 'as evil as a wet hen'

'Collage' is good - but listening to it just now the congas on the left channel are really irritating. Constant & slightly out of rhythm (or is that just me...)

Not a UK copy but not a US one either. It's on Roulette, has a blue/silver label and looks like it's probably a Philips/Phonogram Euro press with one of those three pronged centre thingys.

Maybe this one isn't so well known abroad? I thought I should elaborate a bit.

It's a 2LP live recording (with many tracks not on any other albums) from 1975, so well after his prime. It is patchy. But it does have some great songs on it, including the mentioned afro-rock-funk-psych track. I also like Storseglet which is a 10 minute long slow psych-groove. Some other tracks are also good - but it also has some more bland kinda more mainstreamy songs and a couple of (albeit short) pure novelty numbers that probably are no fun if you don't understand the Swedish lyrics - and maybe not even then. (Though I kinda like'em).

Conclusion: not worth spending any real money on, but I seem to find it quite often in cheapie bins and bootsales in the south of Sweden and it's certainly worth picking up for cheap.
