    Smile Newbie with a question

Hello, I'm Rich, I'm new to these parts, and I hope it's not too impertinent to jump straight in with a question, but I reckon you are the people to ask!

I was wondering if anyone knew anything about a record I bought for a quid a few years back and subsequenly sold at a silly price on eBay, cos I've never been able to find anything else out about it - not even a mention - and I've always wondered about it

It was an acetate album by Tomorrows Promise (no apostrophe on the Tomorrows as far as I recall) - can't remember the title, I'm afraid. It had Sterling Sound NY white labels with hand typed details and a London Records catalogue number (again, I can't remember). It came in a plain white thick card sleeve, which might've been stickered too

I gave it a quick spin but to my ears it was pretty weedy disco / soul stuff (kinda made me think of Brotherhood Of Man), so I put it to one side. A few months later I decided to put it on eBay, hoping for maybe a fiver or something, and was very suprised when two Japanese bidders went to war over it in the last few minutes of the auction, eventually pushing it to £170!

    Just curious really

    Ta!

There was a US soul group called Tomorrows Promise, but I'm not aware of any release by them that sells for that amount, or that they recorded for London.

Perhaps your acetate was an unreleased recording by them? Then again it was probably a completely different group.

    Not much help eh?
it's OK to head out for wonderful, but on your way to wonderful, you're gonna have to pass through all right. When you get to all right,
take a good look around and get used to it, because that may be as far as you're gonna go.

Maybe the buyers were both idiots and it isn't really that rare.

If Jude can't help you though you may be in trouble as he's exactly the sort of guy who loves that kind of thing.
