    Weekend digs

As predicted, two weeks into the great Duke Grant hunt, and I've still not found one. However, this mornings haul is interesting enough. Lots of unusual gear, much of which I could do with some info on if anybody can help (I apologise in advance for the lack of correct accents on the names)

Chiitra Neogy - The Perfumed Garden (Gemini LP)
    Piramis 2 (Pepita LP)
Bacily - Slunecni Vek (Supaphon LP)
Jozef Skrzek - War Of The Worlds Next Century (Muza LP)
Jozef Skrzek - Dominics Godfather (Muza LP)
Jozef Skrzek - Jozefina (Wifon LP)
Locomotiv GT III - Bummm ! (Brem LP)
Czeck Radio Jazz Orchestra & The Blue Effect Group - New Synthesis 2 (Panton LP)
Omega 6 - Nem Tudom A Neved (Pepita LP)

...also got Russian pressings of the first two Stooges LPs (late ones though, 1991, but the sleeves look cool in Cyrillic) and a handful of 45s including a porno flexi from 'Rapier' magazine. Not bad for a combined £8.

Had a *very* quick flick through this lot...there is a nice funky rock track on the Piramis 2 LP and the Czech Jazz one sounds very promising jumping through it.

Any ideas on any of these ? LSF ?

Matt - any chance of a CD-r/minidisc/cassette of this one? I'm looking for stuff by the Czech state radio & TV ensembles at the moment.

Should be able to do a CD or MD at some stage (work allowing). Email me and I'll try and sort it out.

This Duke Grant thing is getting strange, went out to hit some charities this afternoon (my new job means I can't get out during the week anymore) and again didn't get a single copy. However, I did get these.....

Jerry Murads Harmonicats - Theme From The Avengers (Hallmark LP)
Crazy version of 'Peter Gunn' on this, sounds like The Incredible Bongo Band. So, who is Jerry Murad a pseudonem for ?

The Q Men - Have A Ball (Beck LP)
Awful carabet LP, bue with a suprisingly good version of '2001' at the end of the LP which is heavy on the hammond.

The Sun Presents - Soaraway Party Pops (N.O.W LP)
Ken Lazarus - Reggae Greatest Hits Volume 2 (London LP)
King Reggie's All Stars - S/T (Polydor LP)

          Oh, and.....

Various - Big Beat (KPM LP)

As far as I'm aware, Jerry Murad's a real bloke - a harmonica player of Turkish descent, apparently - but his name looks like an anagram of something.

'Big Beat' in a charity shop? How? And why is it never in any of the ones I go to?

was quite pleased with the Pete Moore and the Augusto Alguero, and the cat protection charity shop where the records cost "a small donation in the cat collecting box". also the Pourcell one has the excellent 'You Only Live Twice'

Nice haul! The Baker Street Philharmonic and the Blue Mink LPs both have tasty hammond instros on them.

Thing I found today which I've been playing the most is "The Goodies Theme" 45 - very funky.

you must have eyes to see the Baker St one from here. the stall holder asked me why i bought that one and i said because of Mike Vickers' name on the back, but that i thought it would probably be crap.

the blue cover George Shearing 'Night Mist' has a good 'Cubano Chant' on (thinking of that thread about him the other day). the Mike Moran Band looked very promising (top UK session lineup, lots of keys and synths mentioned), but only Ode to Billie Joe is good, the rest are spoiled by too much rock guitar soloing.

what's the deal with the Mr Pepper 'Drops' one? had a quick track skip and it sounded rubbish! worth trying again? shame cos the cover's good, and Schroeder's name's on the back.

                  the sevens are:
The Flamingos - Dealin' (Groovin' with the Feelin&#39/Dealin' All the Way (Julmar)
                  - nice funky late period stuff, flip is instrumental which works well too
The Soul Sisters - The Right Time/Think About the Good Times (Sue)
                  - double sider
Don Gardner & Dee Dee Ford - Don't You Worry (Fire)
                  - r'n'b
                  The Impressions- We're Rollin' On/Pt 2 (abc)
Harold Smith's Majestic Choir - Why Am I Treated So Bad (Checker)
                  - a side is gospel, but this track is funky. got the Meditation Singers on a chess-family label a few weeks ago - also funky gospel business
                  Banbarra - Shack Up (UA)
Rupie Edwards - Do the Skanga/Leggo Skanga (Cactus)
Toots & the Maytals - Reggae Got Soul/Dog War (Island)

oh and there's a Burl Ives (good folk ballads, not the rubbish he also churned out) and 'A Classic Case of the Funk', a Junior Delgado 12" and a sleeveless Malcolm Lockyear w/ The Hanged Man in that stack at the front...

It ain't a John Schroeder job - it's a German thing by Horst Wende. I don't know whether John is the Scroeder credited with the title track, though.

Personally I like the LP, but you know what I'm like.......

A couple of hours respite from the kids saw the local charities recieve the regular combing, turning up a few nice bits 'n' bobs,

Chico Arnez and his Cubana brass - Chico
Action replay - BBC world cup grandstand and other sporting themes
Charles Sherell - For sweet people
Ray Martin and his orchestra - Dynamica
Alan Parker sound - Waves across the sand
Various - Guns of Navarone Trojan comp
                          Bowie - Stage (yellow vinyl)

Lord T - cheers. i'd seen this mentioned on the board before. will have another quick listen, but fear it's not one for me, along with Crazy Otto and all the other Germans playing the old honkytonk joanna.

themack - what's that 'Soul Cookin' one like? one was up on Ebay last week.

mundayschild - passed up that Ray Martin twice today, not sure why. there's a whole bunch of re-packaged 50's US Stereo Action LPs that got released here in the late 60s, including that one. is it any good? those kind of 50s records seem to either be excellent or very bad
