As predicted, two weeks into the great Duke Grant hunt, and I've still not found one. However, this mornings haul is interesting enough. Lots of unusual gear, much of which I could do with some info on if anybody can help (I apologise in advance for the lack of correct accents on the names)

...also got Russian pressings of the first two Stooges LPs (late ones though, 1991, but the sleeves look cool in Cyrillic) and a handful of 45s including a porno flexi from 'Rapier' magazine. Not bad for a combined £8.

Had a *very* quick flick through this lot...there is a nice funky rock track on the Piramis 2 LP and the Czech Jazz one sounds very promising jumping through it.

Any ideas on any of these ? LSF ?

As far as I'm aware, Jerry Murad's a real bloke - a harmonica player of Turkish descent, apparently - but his name looks like an anagram of something.

'Big Beat' in a charity shop? How? And why is it never in any of the ones I go to?

was quite pleased with the Pete Moore and the Augusto Alguero, and the cat protection charity shop where the records cost "a small donation in the cat collecting box". also the Pourcell one has the excellent 'You Only Live Twice'

Nice haul! The Baker Street Philharmonic and the Blue Mink LPs both have tasty hammond instros on them.

Thing I found today which I've been playing the most is "The Goodies Theme" 45 - very funky.

you must have eyes to see the Baker St one from here. the stall holder asked me why i bought that one and i said because of Mike Vickers' name on the back, but that i thought it would probably be crap.

the blue cover George Shearing 'Night Mist' has a good 'Cubano Chant' on (thinking of that thread about him the other day). the Mike Moran Band looked very promising (top UK session lineup, lots of keys and synths mentioned), but only Ode to Billie Joe is good, the rest are spoiled by too much rock guitar soloing.

what's the deal with the Mr Pepper 'Drops' one? had a quick track skip and it sounded rubbish! worth trying again? shame cos the cover's good, and Schroeder's name's on the back.

It ain't a John Schroeder job - it's a German thing by Horst Wende. I don't know whether John is the Scroeder credited with the title track, though.

Personally I like the LP, but you know what I'm like.......

themack - what's that 'Soul Cookin' one like? one was up on Ebay last week.

mundayschild - passed up that Ray Martin twice today, not sure why. there's a whole bunch of re-packaged 50's US Stereo Action LPs that got released here in the late 60s, including that one. is it any good? those kind of 50s records seem to either be excellent or very bad
