Default Weekday finds 30th sept onwards

Went to Frome yesterday.Raves from the Grave record shop had a few over priced bits but only thing I got

HAWKWIND - DOREMI- suprisingly only a tenner even though it had the poster inside.

Charity shops didnt have much. Couldnt buy a Quincy Jones as it was 'in the book' and had to be checked.Got UFOs third lp, Todd Rundgren from 74 and a Folk Heritage windmill comp, which I offered for free to John S,still havent had a reply.

    In Bristol chazzers got.

ROXY MUSIC-FOR YOUR PLEASURE - best lp IMO.
BARBARA DICKSON - early stuff reissued, very patchy indeed
BOB DYLAN- JOHN WESLEY HARDING- mono copy, chuffed with this.
THE BOX TOPS-GREATEST HITS- american comp
DENNIS SINDREY-THE PILL- terrible Jamacian Calypso record, looked promising
THE FALL FRENZ LP- going slightly wrong in the 80s.

Car boot on Sat wasnt fab but thanks to John Pickford for giving me his crackly copy of which plays well on me turner.

ELECTRIC PRUNES - TOO MUCH TOO DREAM LAST NIGHT 7"

Got an invitation to go round an old ladies place after she her heard me asking about records in a chaz.Seemed a bit strange of her but she was friendly enough. Was hoping to strike gold, didnt but at least I got an Elvis 78 out of it.

Those Frome charities are always shit in my experience! Cheers, I'd be up for the Folk lp. Is the Barbara Dickson from the back room of the YMCA in Bedminster?
I picked up a copy a few weeks back, they had at least one other there. It's essentially the second Decca LP, isn't it?
We know when a mate buys it for you too.

Some finds from today and a few days previously. Some charity shop finds, proper shops, ebay and trades all messed up together:

    sorry about the picture quality!

    SHIRLEY BASSEY - SOMETHING
    GROUNDHOGS - BLACK DIAMOND
    CLOSE ENCOUNTERS -GEOFF LOVE
KRIS KRISTOFFERSON - JESUS WAS A CAPRICORN
    KEPZELT RIPORT EGY AMERIKAI...
QUIET SUN - MAINSTREAM quite liking this eno/manzanera effort. tried making the missus listen to it. she asked me to hurry up and put on the sylvie vartan 7s...
    JOSE FELICIANO
JOE JACKSON - LOOK SHARP/I'M THE MAN

GRAHAM PARKER & THE RUMOURS - STICK IT TO ME dont mind the cover of peebles' 'i'm gonna tear your playhouse down'. on vertigo, for what it's worth
JULIE FELIX - GOING TO THE ZOO/THE WORLD OF...
THE AQUARIUS - HAIR pencilface's favourite version of 'let the sunshine in' apparently. i still really like the driscoll version...
THE OSMONDS - STILL GONNA TO NEED YOU
CLIFF RICHARD - TRACKS N GROOVES 'the girl can't help it' = ace.
MIRIELLE - RENDEZVOUS MIT... was hoping for some uptempo numbers. oh well.
    DIANE SOLOMON - TAKE TWO
LULU - THE WORLD OF... VOL 2 surprisingly heavy drums on some of the tunes id not heard before. 'choc ice' is mental.

SYLVIE VARTAN - NE T'EN VAS PAS/QUAND TU ES LA ne t'en vas pas is an awesome cover of 'i'm coming home' by torme. my favourite example of the song i think. quand tu es la is a cover of a song which will make me kick myself when i remember what its called. zombies maybe? as it's credited to argent.
B BUMBLE & THE STINGERS - NUT ROCKER nice to get a picture sleeve copy of this. has the ace b side version of flight of the bumble bee.
THUNDER COMPANY - GRAVY TRAIN nice drums. definite play-outer.
THUNDERBIRDS/TROY TEMPEST half-inched from my parent's record stash up in the loft :-/

I have promised myself to spend some more on a few solid og LP:s rather than the usual bargain bin punts... but:

V/A - The Greatest Organ Players
All the big names on a double LP.

    Divine Hair
Recognised this from VV site but couldn't remember if this was a good one... seems to be a live recording from some mass?

    Tom Jones - Tom
Ditto on the above (but I don't think it's a live rec from a mass). Venus should be a good cover choice but I also seem to remember the VV site adding "but they don't even manage to get that one funky".

    CCS - wellsome45can'tremember/which one

Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers - Moanin'/Justice

I haven't got round to listen to the above yet as I forgot the bag at our pub bingo night yesterday . Is the Art Blakey one good? I recognise the name I think. Great pic sleeve.

V/A - The Rock Machine Turns You On
CBS sampler with some interesting names like tUSA, Elmer Gantry's Velvet Opera, Moby Grape and Peanut Butter Conspiracy. But... "I Won't Leave My Wooden Wife For You, Sugar"... great choice tossers.

Merry Clayton - Keep Your Eye On The Sparrow/Loving Grows Up Slow
I never thought I would take these words in my mouth, but disco-funk goodness here.

Joe Tex - You Said A Bad Word/It Ain't Gonna Work Baby
    Funk... yes.

The Small Faces - Tin Soldier/I Feel Much Better

Yeah a lesson learnt for next time! She's gone into my pile of records titled 'nice bird on cover - don't put anywhere near turntable'.
    What can I say, I'm a sucker for retro-sexy

So Stan did a volume 3?? Stone me! I've never even heard of that one, let alone seen it.

Well, whoever wrote that was obviously born without ears. That particular LP is one of the three best Tom Jones LPs, and it's also got all the good tracks on side 1, so you don't need to skip when he does a ballad too.

No no no, i'm sure nobody ever wrote that. It was just me being paranoid because I always pick up the wrong records I remember from VV site. I'm looking forward to some welsh cattle funk then.
The CBS sampler is awesome by the way. The tracks from PBC, Electric Flag, BS&T, Roy Harper, Tim Rose and Elmer Gantry are all great.

Ah, fair enough - reading that back I sounded far more angry than I meant it to! I don't think Venus will disappoint, but then a recommendation from me is usually worth about as much as a Zimbabwean banknote.....

??? the Football ep Feat. Soulpatrol ... B-side with original 70's funk like Harvey Scales, Acres of grass and Gino Washintgton
The Pharcyde Passin'Me By/Pork ... Great 93 Hip Hop song

It doesn't get much better than that.

    some finds/trades

Finally got me Varmluft with Clark Terry, Together Brothers OST & McCoy Tyner - Asante (thanks lee! )
    Also some good UK jazz.

Some euro 45s, nothing crazy. Don Curtis is some kind of swedish pop psych. The italian stuff has some loungey loops that I'll never find the time to use properly. And you know just by looking at the sleeve the Renato Carosene is a winner

Lunchtime charity shop run comes up with the goods for the first time in aaaaaagggesss - so good to find some records I've been looking for!

    LPs

Blue Mitchell - Last Tango = Blues (Mainstream) Don't know this one but it looks the part - Paul Humphries and King Errisson amongst the players.

Dizzy Gillespie - The Real Thing (Perception) YES! Been after this for a while due to the mighty 'Matrix', rest of the tracklisting looks promising too - Bernard Purdie thumping the tubs.

    45s

Willie Mitchel - Soul Serende / Buster Browne (London) the a side is a bit smoooove I seem to remeber but I have high hopes for the b side.

Dr John - Right Place, Wrong Time (Atlantic) So nice on 45 - as they say.

    Roll on the weekend!!

    nice finds, mister.

taht Blue Mitchell one isn't his best on Mainstream, but's not bad overall. look out for the self-titled one (with his version of Soul Village) and "blue's blues" (with the mighty "Granite and Concrete").

    excellent find on the Diz.

Tanglewood 63? Good record. I direct you to the last track, already shortlisted for my swap disc.

At first I bought records, then I started to collect records; now I merely accumulate records.

Just back from Shetland where I found a couple of 7"s.

Miami - Kill That Roach/Mr Notorious (tasty Disco Funk type stuff)

Georgie Fame - Beware of the Dog (B-side to Bonnie & Clyde I'm sure most here already know. It's new to me. Top Hammond and Horns action)

Tom Jones - The Lonely One (B-side to I'm Coming Home. As above but without the Hammond. Stormin'!)
