I've recently been watching this brilliant 1970s Granada TV crime-thriller series with Stephen 'Howard's Way' Yardley as cat burglar 'Spider' Scott.

It's got one of the best title sequences ever, accompanied by a seriously funky theme tune. In fact, there are two themes. The first series, from 1976, uses a sig. tune that sounds like it was recorded for CTI (it even sounds like Grover Washington on sax); the second series, from 1977, has a theme credited to Mike Moran.

However, I can't believe either sig. tune was specially composed for the series, as all the incidental music is from various library music catalogues. Moran's theme sounds like it was from a Themes International session (it's definitely Barry Morgan on drums).

Does anyone know which LPs these pieces come from?

In any case, it's a superb series; definitely one for anybody with even a passing interest in 1970s Britain. They don't make 'em like that any more.
