    Question Uploading a ZIP file

So anyway . . . thanks to the most generous help and assistance of Rich Hero and particularly Highland Cow, I have now worked out how to record from vinyl to mp4s via my wife's laptop.

As a result, I am well on my way to getting a Xmas mix of sorts made.
Here's the plan . . . make the CD, upload the songs onto Divshare - buying extra space there if needs be (am I right in assuming that Divshare is a bit like Flickr or something and that once something is there, it stays there forever and can be accessed for ever - like Folkishienne's charts, etc??).

    Then what do I do?

I know how to link things song by song to the site now - thanks Bud P / Ian T - but want to zip the thing up so you can press one download and get the whole CD.

    Any pointers much appreciated.

Two quick notes of caution regarding the mix, by the way:
    (1) It's the first time I've ever done this, and I still haven't sussed out how to edit the tracks on Final Vinyl, so there may be the odd snap, pop and crackle and slightly weird fade in and outs. I also don't have a Technics deck or anything, which makes life harder.
    (2) It's basically songs I've been listening to the last month, which means it's dark 4am autumnal heavy shit!!
    To infinity - and beyond!

    1. zip the whole lot on your computer.

    2. upload the zipfile to divshare,

    3. post the link here, just like you would for an individual song.

    done.

You won't need to pay extra to fit a large zipped file on divshare, though if you want the link to be direct (like Folkishienne's) then you'll have to pay for it - so that you can download in one click. Otherwise the link will be to the divshare download page.

Good to see you're putting your extended convalescence to good use!

How would one such as myself go about such a feat?
In step-by-step plain English if you please, m'lud.

    Mac or PC, Hugh?

    If PC...

    1. Open the folder in which all the mp4's you wish to upload are found (you may want to put them all in a separate folder).
    2. Highlight all the files you want to zip (hold down the left mouse button and drag the cursor...).
    3. Right click and it should give you a menu of options including a link to various Zip options.
    4. Follow the Zip arrow and follow an appropriate 'Compress to "blah blah.zip"' option...

I'm sure there's a more elegant way of doing this that the techies will suggest presently...

This will be ready to roll today or tomorrow, so any further tips on how I turn files on my itunes into a ZIP file on my Mac - and then get their uploaded for posterity much appreciated.

Download a free program called Zipit
    and follow the instructions.

    Easy - basically just drag'n'drop....
We know when a mate buys it for you too.

Click on the desktop first of all.
Press SHIFT & APPLE & N to make a shiny new folder. Rename this to whatever you want.

Go to itunes, select all of the songs you want. Go to File>New playlist from selection if you haven't done so already. Go to the appropriate playlist in the left hand side column of itunes, select all of the songs and drag them into your folder on the desktop. Hold CONTROL and click on the folder, selecting 'Create Archive of...' and you will end up with a ready to go zip file.

stuffit.com is where i got mine. its freeware too.

download it, then all you do is highlight all the files you want to compress/ zip, then drag and drop them into the application, it'll create a zipfile for you.

then you can upload as per the instructions above.

And don't forget to keep your foreskin away from the screen while zipping.
