can anyone dispell or confirm the age old quandry of who played bass on Melody Nelson?
was it Herbie Flowers or was it Christian Padovan from Systeme Crapoutchick?
i'm sure the library guys would know the score if it were msr.plantlife.

I think Serms is on it.

I remember reading somewhere that it was the same team as did Michael Polnareff 'Polnareff's' i.e. the KPM boys.

But there are many things that I *think* I remember cos I'm just scared of the amount of black holes in my memory, I believe it's called confabulation.
If you will suck my soul, I will lick your funky emotions.

That's the Anthony King Orchestra on 'Polnareff's' (at least the a-side) but this thread smacks of something written once becoming lore - confabulation indeed!!! (I don't know that word but now that Benicio's used it for this... ). Anyone know definitively?

And as an aside, are all copies of 'Polnareff's' pressed on really crappy vinyl?

According to his biography 'A Fistful Of Gitanes' by Silvie Simmons , Melody was recorded at Marble Arch studios.

Quote:'A lot of French guys used English musicians' said Alan Hawkshaw, composer of the theme tunes....blah blah....'and Serge always used the cream of the session musicians'.

I just wish I understood French better cause I'm missing out on all the word play in his lyrics. Â (looks a bit like Serge)

that's a great question. vannier used to use the best french guys on most of his sessions (jannick top and toni rubio for example)... good to hear it's a couple of british guys on a classic french lp!

Is it just me or at the end of Brian's '2002 ShadowMania' dum solo does Ricky Gervais wander on and start playing guitar?

i always thought that it could the same group that played on julie covingtons lp (sounds like a melody out-take)
i wander if vannier came to marble arch to do the strings?
hawkshaws fully credited on the following two lp's.
it seems that after working with art greenslade he got into a routine of uk sessions.

Funnily enough I was looking at this one the other day..Seems to suggest in answer to the age old conunundrum that' its "the gentle rain" by moody rather than the other way round (.....wake up at the back.)

Anyone know what the Collage LP is like? (Doesn't sound too promising.....)

So its an over-priced one-tracker? Bit like the Moody then, eh?

No problem. And you begrudge the 50p or whatever your 'Gentle Rain' cost you?

Yes, I think it is. See For Miles did a reissue a couple of years back with extra tracks - not that I've got either of them!

Clive James also wrote the lyrics for Pete Atkin's 'Sessionman's Blues', which are really good.
