    Default Weekend Finds 18-20 September

Seeing as weekend finds seem to start from Friday now I've taken the liberty of starting off this weekend's hunt.

Pretty pleased to pick up an interesting selection for a change at a mighty 10p a go . Not played any of the vinyl yet.

Dionne Warwick - Here Where There Is Love (Pye). Just been listening to some of this on Spotify and it's a nice record and really like 'I Never Knew What You Were Up To' but bloody awful cover pic.
Diana Ross and the Supremes - Greatest Hits (Tamla Motown)
The Pentangle - Basket Of Light (Transatlantic)

Graham Bond Organisation - S/T (Charly Records). 1980 reissue of Live At Klooks Kleek.
Drums On Fire - (Vogue). 4 tracks each played by different artists which are: Art Blakey with the Jazz Messengers, Benny Barth with the Mastersounds, Chico Hamilton with the Garry Mulligan Quartet, and Chatur Lal doing a tabla solo.
Gary Burton Quartet - Duster (RCA Victor)
Paul Desmond featuring Jim Hall - Glad To Be Unhappy (RCA Victor)

Not shown in picture because of lack of sleeve.
Francoise Hardy - In Vogue (Pye)

    Update:
Sunday car boot picked up these three:
    Door - L.A.Woman (Elektra)
The Most Collection - Vol 1 (MFP). Selection of tracks produced by Mickie Most from mid sixties to late sixties. Artists are CCS, The Yardbirds, Rod Stewart, The Animals, Jeff Beck, and Terry Reid.
Club Reggae - Compilation (Trojan). Sleeve is Vol 3 but just noticed record is Vol 4 doh!

what year is Drums On Fire, Melter?

I have a Vogue LP from 1959 called More Drums On Fire. Five tracks on it, the Sonny Payne (with Zoot Sims) one is probably the best.

It's on Blue Elephant. Produced by the likes of Billy Jones and Oscar Harris. Several tracks penned by them as well. I wish I could tell you this was some percussion heavy fuzz hammond funk monster but unfortunately it isn't. It's more like traditional partymusic from the Antilles with a little bit of occasional groovieness thrown in the mix for good measure. I have sold this a few times in the past and it always goes for something like a tenner on the bay. If you collect Dureco/Blue/Pink/Black Elephant records with hot birds wearing hot pants on the cover, this is definitely for you.

Well, a lot of those Dureco ones are nice eventhough there's a chick on the cover.
Have you seen that Manu Dibango on Black Elephant? It's the same model used for the Trotyl lp, only she's got the zipper of her way too tight pants open.....

It's a 1958 release. Looks interesting and has some descriptive sleevenotes, especially informative about tablas and the tala in Indian music. Almost don't want to play it in case it's rubbish.

Eartha Kitt - Not so old-fashioned - Music For Pleasure - 1970 - Eartha "handles the modern song" with plenty of bongos & Jimmie Haskell at the helm. Some gems on there.

Chrome Third From The Sun mint original DFOTM pressing with lyric sheet.

Neu! 75 - Re-Issue (Clear vinyl & not an amazing pressing, so much so the CD probably sounds better, which should not be right.)

Amon Dull Phallus Dei - Re-Issue - This album rocks..Decent pressing too.

Fieldwork - Sharpen The Sickle - Pretty astounding 1986 ethno-afro-arabic-UK jazz & folk oddness from Nottingham 4 piece at odds with the then current music trends.

Tantra Hills of Katmandu UK Automatic 1979 pressing with cover. (Great Edit but still not a patch on the Patrick Cowley veriosn.)

Bobby O- Suspicious Minds- Really bad/amazing Elvis cover version inna Euro-Disco style that was milked by Pet Shop Boys for a whole career....Really epic & quite lovely string intro. Read once that Bobby O was really homophobic? Go figure that?

A stack of Top Of The Pops Hallmark & Windmill albums including a couple of early 80's ones & the 7? one with Autobahn...Some moments of hilarity on these. Notably the Specials Ghost Town version with the worst Jamaican accent I have ever heard, plus the chorus is pretty disturbing... Also scored a Music For Pleasure version of the Easy Rider soundtrack. Not great really but saved by the version of Mass In F Minor.

    Couple of 7's....
Ac/Dc Jailbreak....Kick ass rock & roll & I am torn between this & the Shellac version...

Espirit de Corps - If it would turn out wrong - Jam - 1972- Weird Psych/Glam
Iron Cross - Little bit of soul -Spark -1972 -Thug rock for bootboys
Stiffwick - Ramblin' rose - Deasuk - Zep style antics in aid of Wayne Kramer 19??
    Spectrum - Glory - Rca 1969
Bandylegs- Silver Screen Queen - 1975 The Brummie's previously opened for Sabbath & were forerunners of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal - Thought this would be good -Pedestrian guitar wank pop rock but pleasant like Readers Digest.
Young Marble Giants - Final Day - Rough Trade 1980 - This really is great. Arty, Lo-Fi, Electronic & beautiful.

Some real finds for me this time! By real finds I mean I really found them at the side of the road in a less than pleasant part of Nottingham!

There were more, but not to my taste so they got left for the next marauding collector.

In the real world, I picked up these two in suburban chazza's.

Can't actually find out much about this. It is on MFP but appears to be a 1966comp of earlier singles?

Lovely find in a chazza that doesn't normally have vinyl. The lady said this was at the bottom of a donation earlier that day. What made it even nicer was this...

Didn't have much time to hunt this weekend but managed a few chazzas and an afternoon boot sale

The mindbenders in really top condition for 50p has made my day Barry Ryan and Pink fairies are battered fooled by the light today but at 50p each . Fanny hill sounds a bit pants - nice to find some 'proper' Northern and a fine piece of hairy, failed pop

Found these bits and bobs and the record fair in Croydon today. Most were £2-3 with a couple being a little more:

Top tune Mamie Galore.I think the Gypsies is a reissue/boot, can't remember how you tell but it looks the same as mine and mines not an og.still a great tune whatever its on.
Joe Harriott is nice especially on a white demo
The Johnny Jones is a popular oldie on the Northern soul scene, it originally came out on Brunswick in the USA in the 6ts, got re-issued over hear due to demand in 76 - top tune - should imagine worth about a fiver
Looks like a good haul of Jazz from Markie

Nah - had this discussion with Mr Divine before - the only UK release it got was on that Cream reissue label so one can genuinely say it's a UK first press

Nice finds Neil - I'd like to hear that Mindbenders LP!!
