    Unhappy

I found a copy of 'Version Galore' by I Roy on Treasure Island at lunch time but when I've searched for info only U Roy pops up - I had previously thought they were different gezzers. Are they one and the same bloke?

Also found 'Reggae Happening' by Boris Garnder in the same pile - it's on Dynamic Sounds - no info on this fella at all but I have high hopes for the cover of 'Spooky'.

Are these LPs rare or are they the JA equivalent of a UB40 lp?

    Thumbs up

Different person Lee. He took the name in tribute to U Roy...

But I can't google his 'Version Galore'.

'Barbwire' on the 'Reggae Happening' LP is a version of the Nora Dean tune, something of a classic. And, if you come across a copy of 'Every Ni**a Is A Star'...

Boris’ version of the MGs’ “Melting Pot” is a belter.

His “Sledgehammer” LP has some reggae funk niceness on it, too.

Avoid his soppy “I Wanna Wake Up With You” hit, though.

has a book price of £10-15 apparently (says the guy who sold it to me? )
I was gonna pass on the lp because of the same UB40/commercial concerns but those 3 tracks swung it.

On closer inspection the LP IS by U Roy - a fact which I could have gleaned (and saved you good people some bother) by simply turning the LP over and reading the sleeve note - durrrh. Also has pictures of Mr Roy(no Bazil Brush jokes please) in his pre-dread days

Why does it say i Roy on the cover then.

The Gardner version of 'Spooky' is pure class by the way.

I assume it's the same Boris Gardner behind the 'Ghetto Funk' track on the 'Darker Than Blue' comp, too?

Dynamic Sounds seems to be a bit of a mixed quality label, but certainly has good things on it - quite a lot of Byron Lee's stuff late 60s/early 70s seems to be on it, and his LPs always have at least a couple of worthwhile cuts on them in my experience...

avoiding that is a challenge! it must be in every charity shop in the country - once saw it in one shop as 45, 45 with picture sleeve, original 12" (red label), repress 12" (yellow label - i think i've got those the right way round, but i don't really care&#33, 12" with picture sleeve... help!
