    Default Vision - ON

Inspired by Teddy Rosso's recent thread on "groovy club scenes" - I've posted up a few of my favourite music related film and tv excerpts - will add more in due course.

Club and party scenes will probably feature quite strongly...

    Enjoy.

    1. A Matter Of Choice (1963)

A British B-Movie featuring a great club sequence - the jazz, the dancing and the dialogue make this an all out personal favourite.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ti3wc-C5a4

    2. Sapphire (1959)

"'cos when they hear the beat of the bongo..." which is proved by this club sequence - driving afro-cuban jazz, wild dancing and terrific ties .

Anyone know what the tune is? It also features in another British movie from around the same time...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w83ED7tpHxg

    3. Georgy Girl (1966)

Short but very sweet club scene - marvel as Alan Bates tries to get into the groove .

I still dont know what the tune featured is - anyone know?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNRDJ-gbu2A

    4. Devils Of Darkness (1965)

Women smoking cigars, jazz and wild abandon. What more do you need for a party?

The second jazz piece featured in this scene scene is probably right up Alanmck's street...

These look great, especially Sapphire. Shame I haven't got sound on my PC

My mum fancied Alan Bates and had a picture of him in a drawer. One day me and my brother did his eyes black with biros and gave him a tache and she nearly murdered us.

Is that Babs Windsor smoking like a chimney and doing the twist in a pink dress in the last clip?

    These are lovely, Gian.

love the Sapphire clip. Johnny Vegas hasn't aged well, eh?

nice dialogue as well: "but once they hear the beat of the bongos..."

and yes, looks a lot like Babs in pink at the start of clip 4.

geek alert: that second piece in clip 4 is in 7/4 time, but who's counting? very nice indeed. vinyl carvers here we come, that on one side, Le Doulos on the other.

Shame you haven't got sound Babycart - that Sapphire tune would be right up your street.

Looks like Babs in the "devils..." bit but it isn't unfortunately

It's great - been obsessed with that piece for many years now - I would gladly commit murder to find out what that tune is - probably specially recorded for the film and never issued though...

I stuck another one up last night...

    5. A Man Called Adam (1966)

Another all time favourite - Mel Torme singing "all that jazz" from the film "a man called adam". Love the way the tune builds and builds. Mel looks like he's having a ball.

The whole film is worth a look and I think it has now finally come out on DVD.

See how many jazz musicians you can name in this club scene...

    a couple more added...

    6. It's All Happening (1963)

Tommy Steele's finest moment? Probably. His homage to the greasy spoon "egg and chips" (backed by John Barry) from the film "it's all happening".

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3z_aKGEloQE

    7. Burke's Law (early 60's)

Great party scene from the US TV show "Burke's Law" - with an extremely groovy jazz tune.

At Sir Slim's suggestion, I've piled into this now.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gc3POHaGoM4

From the 1972 Italian film 'Man Hunt' (another great bit of which was posted in the car chase thread) - scenes from the world's ungrooviest nightclub, and some awful acting.

Oh yeah, there is some nudity.

Default Out of my way, dammit.

    it's my turn.

All Night Long: it's a britjazzothelloadaptation classic, been talked about on here before, and not just by me. here's a slightly smug-but-gets-better clip from it.

A night out at the rub a dub dub , 'Moon Zero Two' style. Check out Bernard Bresslaw - he's got hair, and he knows how to use it.

    The more the merrier Al.

First saw this one at the Everyman Cinema - classy and it has Macgoohan playing a jazz drummer - what more do you need.

"muy rapido" - BIG tune down at the Cutting Edge bitd.

One of my favourite Bunuel's - along with "the exterminating angel" though sadly there are no club scenes in that one.

I think the story with "Simon..." was that he ran out of finances, hence the odd end to the film?

'The Smashing Bird I Used To Know' (1969). One of the few scenes without any nudity whatsoever. The girl in yellow is REALLY giving it some.

'O Lucky Man!' is one of my favourite films, and what better way to end it but with a whack around the head and a party?

'Four Flies On Grey Velvet'. Not a particularly tight fit with the rest of the stuff uploaded so far but it's such a brilliant sequence I had to include it.

'Incense For The Damned' (1970). Patrick Mower gets his swerve on, but who is playing the freak out music?

Oh yeah, there is some nudity. From the French one out of 'Mind Your Language' amongst others.

'Dracula, AD 1972', just because it's fairly well known doesn't mean it isn't groovy.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7YU3zHYajE

'Perversion Story' (1969) - scummy and swinging.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Z0AZZ8B3GQ

'Cop Out' (1967) - a hip drug party for the in crowd and middle aged alcoholic befuddlement.
