Oscar Brown recommendations?

Of course he co-wrote some classic soul-jazz tracks; Work song, Watermelon man, Dat dere etc., but which of his own releases are recommendable? I checked Sin & Soul and wasn't that excited by his singing on that.

And what are your favorite covers of the above mentioned tracks?

Not strictly true...his Movin' On LP on Atlantic is a lot different, he gets quite a bit funkier on that...backed up by Cornell Dupree, Richard Tee etc

I'm a big fan of Between Heaven and Hell
One of his earlier ones I'd think and not very funky but it swings nicely in a big band 50s with a dash of jazz and soul kind of way
The first two tracks are wonderful

I like "Finding a new friend" with Luiz Henrique. It has some lovely music and is a great example of the collaborative Brazillian Bossa albums of that period.

Went and picked up cheap scratched copies of both S&S and BH&H after work. You weren't lying, Mr. Hicks is a great hipster bachelor track.

The 70s version of 'But I was cool' on this is funky and funny - and bears repeat listens. Dunno what LP it's from though...
