(I paid £10 and I'm not sure if I'm happy a) because I don't like the tatty sleeves from that part of the world, stupid I know, and b) its a bit scratchy in parts so wonder if £10 was abit steep. Anyone?)

    2) Lulu - Melody Fair. I love Lulu's voice, am I weird?

    3) Dr John - Desitively Bonnaroo

    4) Humble Pie - S/T

    5) Can - Tago Mago. £5 without a cover. How long before I see the full package for a few quid more

    6) Seven second hand hip hop 12's the pick being DJ Todd 1 - That's The Way I Cut Live (still have the John Peel tape from 1987 when I first heard it&#33

The Harry J All Stars - Liquidator lp (Trojan)
You Are What You Eat OST (CBS) - Wicked psych rock.
Greyboy - Freestylin (Ubiquity) - Great funky jazz lp from '93. Why this was in a charity I'll never know.

And shed loads of new bits.

If you fancy trading the dum dum then shout.

Guzzo, if you don't like the nona Hendryx I know people that would take it off your hands. It's a great record, that, if a little derivative of Gace Jones' finer hours.

Regarding Kano, check out the other side ("Dance School", innit?). Nice bit of soulful 80s boogie bizness.

Only remixes of "Another life" I don't like it that much, do you know if it's rare or something?

That's a pity. I got a 7" of "Another Life" recently. I don't really rate it but the other side is pretty good - soulful male vocal. Quite a surprise on a record which is (I believe) european in origin.

Kano was Italian. Largely crap, though a few of the tunes were big in Chicago's early house clubs. The one for me, which is brilliant electronic soul is Can't Hold Back Your Lovin' which is on the New York Cake LP and also on a 12-inch.

    In relation to Italian disco/boogie:
I just read that the famous italian producer Jaques Fred Petrus was involved with the mob! He was supposedly killed by them as well. Check out on :www.jaquespetrus.com

    Renegade Soundwave "In Dub"

On Saturday I zipped up my boots and went back to my roots, with a trip to Bath - and while I was there, I bought:

    (from the charities)

Hits from the Johnny Cash Register - The New Decimal System (Fontana)
Surprisingly good instrumentals - less country, more groovy. And an excellent band name too!

UK Hits of the Seventies - Various (Reader's Digest)
Some interesting names here, including Nick Ingman, Neil Richardson and Frank Barber. Worth it for the version of 'I Feel Love' by the John Coleman Orchestra with the Ladybirds!

Die GroBen Erfolge - Rex Gildo (Ariola)
Run of the mill Schlagermusik from a singer who was a big star in Germany, but ended up with mental problems, and killed himself by jumping from a hospital window in the late '90s. I prefer his b-sides, meself.

Here Comes Courage - (probably) Cliff Adams (Lyntone)
7" promo flexi for Courage beer - a-side sounds like a Sing Something Simple outtake, so it must be Cliff Adams. B-side's an acceptable honky-tonk piano pop version, with a slight hint of Floyd Cramer. They're all Wadworth's drinkers round there anyway!

(from a rather more expensive shop)

Flick's Own - Vic Flick (Impress)
Excellent 1975 library - if I were selling it on eBay I'd say it sounded a bit like the Hanged Man, which is not exactly true, but there are Bullet-ish bits on it! And let's face it, anything which claims to feature 'fuzz marimba' has got to be worth hearing!

Instrumental Groups vol 1 - Moimir Sepe & his sound
Instrumental Groups vol 3 - Jure Robeznik & his music
Simple Melody vol 1 - Boris Kovacic and his music Â(all Apollo Sound)
My first Apollo LPs - no Eastern European funk on them, but some nice easy orchestral pop, and no doubt a few test card tracks in there too. The laid-back jungle vibe of 'Man From Nicaragua' is great too. Good old RTV Ljubljana!

And then I went to Newbury.......

    The Munch Bunch (Tempo)
Soundtrack to the ATV series, with music by Brian Wade and stories from John Noakes, Lesley Judd and Peter Purves - that'll do nicely!

Gerry Anderson Presents TV Favourites vol 2 (Marble Arch)
Compilation of the Century 21 LPs - the first copy I've ever seen without an extortionate price tag.

Secret Love - Joe Henderson (Studio 2)
The sort of LP only I would like........

Stereo Fiesta - Robin Richmond (Pye)
See above, but note a lengthy latin percussion solo on 'Desafinado' - Robin was responsible for bringing the Hammond organ to Britain, so he deserves some kind of medal in my book.

Hammond Up Up 'n Away - George Blackmore (Ad-Rhythm)
OK, but I prefer Hammond LPs with a real bass, rather than just the pedals.

20th Century Folk Mass - Frank Weir Orch/Peter Knight Singers (Oriole)
Modern treatment of a religious subject - I recall reading this was incredibly contrversial in 1957, though nowadays it's difficult to see what all the fuss is about. Some slightly jazz influenced tracks, but no real rave-ups. I don't think you'll go to hell for listening to this any more. There's more shocking stuff on Songs Of Praise these days!

Glad to see this has gone to a good home - I listened to it a couple of months ago but it's not really my thing. No matter how much I tried to persuade myself I couldn't personally justify the price tag...just too 70's for my taste, I guess.

I think it must be the same one - a lot of Impress stuff was reissued on JW later on (sometimes with a JW label stuck over the top of the Impress one&#33

Was this your copy then, John? It's round about your area (and it was one of the few things in that shop I could actually afford&#33

I took four boxes of books and magazines to the Goodwill thrift for a nice tax writeoff receipt but came out with

    Various: BREAKDANCE LP (K-Tel)
Duran Duran: Carnival 12" (Tritec Germany)
Billy Vera & Judy Clay: STORYBOOK CHILDREN LP (Atlantic)

    Bus Connection: SUPERDANCE LP
Okay 1977 Italodisco with high-school-quality pastel drawing cover of Superman & Wonderwoman... without faces(!!?). Liner notes say it was "a big hit in Canada!"

Mirror Image: DISCOPEDIA Vol. 3 LP (Pickwick)
Mirror Image: DISCOPEDIA Vol. 4 LP (Pickwick)
One came with Arthur Murray disco dance instructions. The exploito cover of Cerrone's "Supernature" is interesting.

    Pat Williams: THRESHOLD LP (Capitol)
Double. Funky early 70s soundtracky big band jazz from the composer of "Streets of San Francisco."

Enoch Light: IMPELLING DANCES OF OUR TIMES 2LP (Command)
Comp of ol' Enoch's earlier, more "danceable" stuff. Very cheesy in a 60s gogo way with big beats, hammond, latin percussion, punchy horns and/or twangy guitar. There's a couple of sampleable/playoutable cover versions like "Watermelon Man," "Ya Ya," and "C'mon And Swim"

    West Side Story DVD

    $12
"No my brother. You got to get your own."

Got some a'ight stuff from the local street market:

    Best of the bunch:

    Christopher Lee - reads Dracula (love the oft sampled intro on this);

    Mel Brooks - Young Frankenstein

Dusty Springfield - A Girl Called Dusty

Deep Purple - In Concert At The Royal Albert Hall (pretentious but occasionally enlivened by Jon Lord organ solos)

The Toys - Baby Toys 7" (not too bad 60's soul stuff)

    From the local charidee:

The Searchers - Its The Searchers

Not too bad at £2 - £0.50 each.

oh no, sorry - I meant I listened to it a couple of months ago in 'that shop' along with a horseload of other libraries and general obscure cheese.
