I'm in Washington for work and thought I'd have a look around. I've been here a couple of times and not really found it a great place for digging, but still pleased with the days efforts:

Live, lo-fi clumsy garage punk from '66 - think Ireland's Greatest Sounds:
    http://www.redtelephone66.com/2010/0...o-fidelity-lp/

Beaty Quebecian LP by super-lame-looking Cecar et les Romains (respect for the drummer's miming skills):
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gRDkVU_f4Fc

Twistin' at the Roundtable with the Orchids:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qu8fouOkkYg

    Prog LP by Leviathan (1974):
    http://www.we7.com/#/album/Leviathan/Leviathan

From the Witchwood by the Strawbs
    http://babeblogue.blogspot.com/2007/...wood-1971.html

    Some modern stuff from Espers:
    http://www.amazon.com/II-Espers/dp/B000ETRB9A

Rock n' Roll by the mighty Fudge

Duane Eddy - Lonely Guitar LP

    And a couple of '45s:

Caravan part I/II - Cozy Cole

So Sharp/Don't Bug Me - Duke and the Blazers
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2mET9qelZ4A
SEALED, this has a sticker on the front reading "COLOUR VINYL" so it's probably not black vinyl, even though black is a colour.

I have an EP from another of his LPs - I really like it, twangy with some nice organ and sound effects.

short visit to three thriftstores brought me these:

the three suns - twilight memories (wanted this for ages just for the cover. the music is actually quiet enjoyable 50s organ led orchestrated easy listening. perfect for yesterdays sunday morning)

ferrante & teicher - pianos in paradise (was hoping for some top notch exotica grooves, instead its overblown orchestrated piano stuff with a very slight touch of exotica here and there)

al caiola - ambiance (perfect lounge jazz that is just perfect for certain moments)

marielisa - same (i somehow thought this looked very promising. instead its europe inspired cheesy 70s pop out of venezuela i think)

hector lavoe - same (great latin session from the early 80s on fania. good stuff)

maria bethania (comp of her first two records i think. truly remarkeable stuff. beautiful songs....wow!)

jeremy harmer - english tea (odd folky record by an english teacher out of mexico. some good buty very dry tracks on it.)

jack's angels - believe in a world (rare folk lp out of austria. its good but not that good. one for the bay i think)

amateur jazz festival zurich 1967 (haven't really checked this out yet. i know there is some good stuff in this serie. first one of these i've seen in the wild)

los iracundos - same (another promising looking lp. was hoping for some cheesy prog-glam moves but its far off. from somewhere in south america)

A fruitful month so far, I've managed to plug a few glaring omissions in my Anglo-Australian cross-dressing comedy portfolio:

First day of a week off, and a nice day.... and these from a charity shop.

    Marble Arch Hair
Nina Simone -Black Gold (Can never make my mind up about Nina - I appear to have half a dozen of her LPs, but there are times I find her a little overwrought.)

Stony Edwards -S/T Great Country with a soulful edge to it.

Thomas Yates - Second City Spiritual. Liking this - not really the acid-folk the cover promises, more honest folk-club folk, but nice songs, strong singing.
Those funny cars won't make the teardrops start/ but way up there is where she broke my heart

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zfpx57UORII

Goblin Il Fantastico Viaggo Del "Bagarozzo" Mark ...Known for their instrumental B-movie soundtracks, this album has vocals, and is heavily synth-orientated prog. The instrumental "...E Suono Rock" is one of the best

Joe Bourne It all Comes Back ... Dutch Modern Soul Record that used to be sought after, first playable copy I have found
    Soundtrack the Pink Panther

Udo Udo 71 ... Spare copy of this two tracker, Peace now and Eleonor Rigby

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhNDUNl6b-c

Goblin Profondo Rosso ... Spare, Dutch instrumental B-movie soundtrack we all know

    Chamber Brothers Greatest Hits

Round Amen Corner, For Collectors Only (great Dutch Beat collection, near mint, only saw wasted copies before), first press Dutch Bob Dylan, multi Color vinyl compilation That's Underground.

Last but not least Ten Years after "Cricklewood Green" first UK press Mono "DML 1065" with poster in a near mint condition.

A bunch of fun stuff coming my way lately:

Appendix - Space Trip - Saw this mentioned here by Brainbomb I think, and had to listen to it when it popped up in front of me. Excellent jazz with a spacey feel.

Doug Carn - Spirit of the new land - Haven't really had the time to get in to this yet. Sounds good as far as I've heard though.

Marcus Belgrave - Gemini - One of the best records in the spiritual field I've heard so far, one or two not-so-fun tracks, but the rest is killer.

Pop Workshop - Swedish jazz/rock/fusion thing, has something quite cheesy about it, but the meatiness of the drums kind of make up for it. Quality indeed, just not 100%.

Everett de Van - This is Ssslick - In it's worst parts it is very cheesy indeed, but the best tunes almost remind me of Lyman Woodard Organization. Crisco and a few others are very likeable

Sheba Baby OST - Never saw this one before, and a very pleasant blaxplo OST surprise Sounds a bit like Blacula or Gordon's War.

    Har-You Percussion Group - Reissue
Les de Merle - Reissue - Great stuff, but I'm not sure the OG is worth the money it seems to be costing these days.

Galt MacDermot - Hair Cuts - Great live setting with excellent Aquarius, Let the sunshine in and Easy to be hard if I remember correctly.

Nucleus - Roots - Didn't think this would be as solid as it is, loads more to be enjoyed than Roots on this one. Just one or two more Nucleus LPs to have all the ones I feel like I need (Solar Plexus and Belladonna, that is)

Bayete Umbra Zindiko - Seeking other beauty - Seems to be well known round these parts psych jazz rock stuff, that I need to listen to.

Affinity - Cheaper US Paramount issue of this organ rock fest

Alan Hawkshaw - 27 Top TV Themes and Commercial - Cheap punt that I knew had to have at least a few interesting cuts

Main Source - Diary of a hitman - Bootleg/cheap unofficial issue of pretty good hip hop LP

Music for Dancefloors - Great comp of Chappell and Bruton stuff

Carlos Garnett - Let this melody ring on - Cheap copy with bad looking cover, record looking a lot better though! I don't really like his other solo albums, but this has quite a few funky spiritual-ish jazz tracks.

Rosko - Peacemaker - Heard this at Jens place quite a long time ago, couldn't resist buying it when I saw it for the first time since you played it

Cracker Jax - Radius/1515 - Interesting scary prog-ish tunes that remind me of Catharsis

Ju-Par Universal - Moods & Grooves - Thought this was a bit cheesy the first time I heard it, and I still do, but there's something about this I really like. Couple of good tracks make this a keeper.

Graham Collier Music - Darius - Great live jazz rock set that I need to listen to again whilst not working

East New York Ensemble de Music - Reissue of very expensive record, great listen all through. Probably worth the price the original commands

Goblin - Tenebrae - Grabbed this thanks to the BIN-section on this very forum Thanks a lot!

Count Down - Raptus/Vampire - Cheaper canadian issue without pic sleeve of this .. sleazy horror disco? Didn't really like it at first, but at least one side seems very interesting.

finally tracked down a copy of James Last's Well Kept Secret, and minty fresh it is too, not a single mark on the disc or cover.

the Papatoetoe Hospice Shop lady wanted 10 cents for it, but I was so chuffed I handed over a whole dollar.

Love For Sale is something else ain't it?

ooo, just rumbled a copy of that World of Hard Rock referenced upthread - basically on the strength of that really. cost me ten bucks and everything.

and Cozy Powell's Dance with the Devil.

This LP was definitely issued by Metronome in Germany with a different cover design. I looked it up last night in the Cosmic Dreams book but there's no further info about it (no lineup clues, etc). It's rumoured to involve John Lawton, Les Humphries and the Lucifer's Friend guitarist behind lots of LPs on Europa (Peter something). Maybe someone with the second edition of this book could oblige...?

    Ha! Madness.

Jeremy made a lost 'acid folk monster' LP back in the early 70s (check Popsike for further details) that there was some talk of reissuing a while back, though have heard nothing else about this!

He was at Cambridge with a guy from Trees, who guests on that first LP, and knocked round with Nick Drake as well.

He started teaching English in the 70s, klived in Mexico for ages, which is where that record was made, and wrote this in the 80s:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Practice-Lan...9684034&sr=8-1

Which became the standard entry read for anyone getting into English Language Teaching.

He's still on the conference circuit, wears a mean Nehru jacket and is a very charming, albeit slightly louche, man.

I'll be seeing him this weekend in Madrid and shall inform him of your find!

He now does fairly monstrous gigs at ELT conferences to adoring Hungarian fans.
    To infinity - and beyond!

For me it was 5 Euro punt, but it seems to go for a bit more. I've only listened once and can't really say after just one listen. It's a bit big band style, not a large big band but plenty of horns and it has both avantgarde touches and groove. I found a mp3 excerpt with the track I liked best:

Good start to the month with a few recent keepers from an abortive visit to Dorset (went to buy a collection, chap decided he didn't want to sell it to us after all ), a few from a house call, couple that came in the shop, and some from the cheap boxes at a fair...

Triana is decent Spanish psychy prog, Tex Lecor is MOR but for one fuzzy track, Gorillas LP is a gem and well worth the pound! And some ethnic LPs too!

'Minting up' on Richard and Linda Thompson, Henry Cow, Coloma School Choir doesn't live up to its cover. Slapp Happy is superb - UK copy on Polydor, backed by Faust. Very pleased to get the Astrud Gilberto and the Lee Hazlewood, never had either before.

I didn't realise that this gem had a UK release...

Promo copy, no sleeve, but probably never had one!

Also picked these up for very cheap, not keepers, but definitely worth grabbing!

If it helps I needledropped it a little bit now and there's more uptempo stuff on it than slower moments. For example - the first soundclip is about 10 minutes in full while the 3rd is about 4 minutes. And there's another decent uptempo one at 8-9 minutes. 6 tracks in all on the record - whoever's selling this one sure didn't cherry pick the best moments...

    Indeed, that good
Seems to have gone up in price as well, so whoever bought it a few years ago probably did a good deal

About your Novi Singers, Ne Rien Ne Va Plus is definitely my favourite Novi LP(I seem to be the only one with this opinion though), does a lot more for me than Torpedo for example!

found a new load of stuff at the local during my lunchtime stroll. managed to snarf myself some cheapies:

Quicksilver (Straker's) Hit Me With Soca

The Three Suns (RCA Victor) On a Magic Carpet

The Keating Sound (Decca) Keating...Straight Ahead

Sounds Orchestral (Parkway) Impressions of James Bond

Bosworth Backgrounds (Bosworth Music) Summer Style

and a fairly extensive Tommy James comp.

lovely day for it as well.

    have you heard it?
lyrics are weird. very basic english, as made for learing english, but it still leaves you with a feeling hes trying to tell us something...

musically it kind of reminds me of that rare uk folk album you love. the one with the drawn, childrenbook like cover. from the early 70s i think. yellow road, blue sky and a person walking towards the horizon...the name escapes me at the moment...
