I picked this up at midday on Saturday then shipped out to Asia to work for the next couple of weeks. Needless to say I didn't get to listen to it before I left. It's at the top of the things to listen to when I get home pile...

There is one reference on Popsike - but that's about all I've found to date...

Thumbs up From varying sources (Carboot, Freebies, and Charities)

The new Bermuda stealers - Life (Edmar)
Charity shop punt, the only steel band LP Ive ever picked up in a charity that actually has some redeeming tracks on it!

Esso steel band of Bermuda - It's still s beautiful world
Sadly this on is weak, shame it wasn't their other LP with 'I want you back' on.

Memphis brown beatband - A taste of beat (Music for your home)
Spare, coming your way if you want it Nige mate?

New Jersey turnpike - Turn the page (SRT productions)
Very dull private press job, does very little for me.

    Jasper - S/T (Look records)
Terrible private press LP, bought it cos they do covers of 'She's not there', and 'Don't let me be misunderstood'.

    Colors -OST (WB)
    Spare.

The Roots - Silent treatment (DGC)
    Credible early 90's hip hop.

    Tha Alkaholiks - Daaam! (Loud)
    See above.

Yall so stupid - A van full of Pakistans (Rowdy records)
    See above again.

The Shadows - Shades of rock (EMI)
Finally managed to grab a copy of this vulture classic.

Mike Carr - Hammond under pressure (EMI)
    More vulture action.

    Yan Tregger - Picture (MP2000)
Killer library action by one of favourite library artists.

Trinidad oil company - The calendar song (EMI)
    Some great covers.

Alan Price - Lucky man (WB)
Yet to give it a spin.

    Michel Legrand and friends (RCA)
    Vulture action.

Bud Shank - Windmills of your mind (World pacific)
I'm a sucker for covers of the title track!

Mel Thorme - Live at the Maisonette (Atlantic)
    Bonkers cover of 'Superstition'

    Eric Clapton - S/T (Polydor)
    One great funky instrumental.

The excursion - Night train (Gemini)
    Funky hammond action.

Shawn Phillips - Second contribution (A&M)
Still need to give this one a spin.

Cannonball Adderley's - Big man (Fantasy)
    A bit tepid!

The now generation - Sock it to me!!! (Somerset)
    Vulture stuff.

My thanks goes to Lee for the freebies.

@ Craig - the Shawn Phillips is a classic - only found it last year - side one is a monster - all flows together... cover is a winner too

    Some recent Charity scores

Group 64 Cool cover, but sadly rather run of the mill covers of beat hits of '64
Patsy Peters Well known I'm guessing. 'Ode to Billy Joe'. Rest of fairly straight country
Now Generation US cover (above) looks much better than the UK one!
Dyon Parker Great early Dylan/SSW stuff. Seems quite rare for a Marble Arch LP?

Club Folk Vol.2 Excellent sampler of folk culled from albums probably outside of my price range. On the look out for Vol.1 now

Paul Clark - Songs from the Savior Proper pruchase, to sit next to my vol.2. Great xian 70s US fok rock stuff.

That Jasper LP is probably by the same Lounge act who did an album on SRT called 'Front To Back.'
Not to be confused with the 'Liberation' Jasper.

after saving up a wee bit of extra lunchtime freedom I managed a fair bit of quality record rifling and snared a few goodies...

Cal Tjader, Huracan (Crystal Clear Records), a 12'' four tracker from 1978 featuring the likes of Willie Bobo, Alex Rodriguez and Pancho Sanchez. Very cool opener, Funqiado, wot I'm looking forward to playing out.

Perez Prado, This Is Perez Prado (RCA), I'm always a sucker from some quality Prado and after looking at this record every time I visit the store I decided today was the day to take it home.

The Critters, Touch 'n' Go (Project 3), a reissue, but no matter, it's still blessed with that grand Project 3 Aerosmith sound.

Les Baxter's Young Pops (Capitol), Spanish pressing, actually I bought this to add to the covers now gracing my work station. Right purdy it's looking too.

Is that one any good then, apart from not being very good this one is too late for my taste with it being 1978.

I knew I'd like this, being a massive fan of all things sunshine pop...somehow I'd never thought to check it out online til this reminded me.

BEST THING EVER! (well, the two tracks I've just found on youtube...at least) Much better production than their first album, which is great, but much more primitive sounding.
"Not only that but the WHOLE COVER is UNCREASED with only 2 or 3 TINY creaselines near the opening edge about half way down!!!! In the same place (about half way down the opening edge), there is an absolutely TINY and PERFECTLY repaired split" (xxxrecords)

I haven't had the nerve to spin it yet. Judging from the hair and clothes, I'd guess it was from 1975 or 1976, but that's only a guess.

Unfortunately the cover wasn't enough to put me off spinning the one I picked up, as Hommer Simpson would say 'My ears are soiled'!

yep, took the Critters down to my vinyl cave in the basement and gave it a rip - good times, and as you say, a much fuller soundscape cf the debut.

but on my way home I also nabbed tha Little Ann album Deep Shadows (Timmion). It's a vinyl only release with accompanying legend that it was recorded way back in the whenevers, then shelved and forgotten.

Anyone know if this is true or a bit of marketing spin?
Either way it's superb, spinetingling stuff and well worth the price of admission

also got this Ray Bryant Orchestra album, Take A Bryant Step (Cadet) with some very very cool jazz takes on the likes of To Sir With Love and Paint it Black; a wee nudge on the bpms turns the latter into top dancefloor fodder.

so, it was a pretty good day on the buying front.

It's definitely old 60s recordings, don't think it was intended as an album, as such - it's more a compilation gathering all her recorded output. Which has mostly been on various Kent CDs and 7"s - but this is the only place they're all collected together. I agree, it's amazing - think "What Should I Do" has been a massive spin since it was played off acetate in the 70s... her identity unknown.

Check out "Dave Hamilton's Detroit Dancers" CD for the full story...

It took some time for me too. Only found recently - it's probably mentioned by me in the July or August finds thread already. I spun My Babe at the outdoors Crillo because I thought the average Dane needed some organ groove meets trippy backwards psychedelia to go with their early afternoon Saturday walk.

I'd seen it a couple of times previously, but it had either been rough or over priced.

Managed to pop into a local shop after a nice Jazz collection hit the floor. Everything was reasonably well priced but the owner luckily put out the stuff that was unfamiliar at particularly attractive prices . Here's what I came home with (pics not mine):

Leo Burnett Company - Music Music Music
Vanity pressing of a breakfast meeting from 1962 where they have a live group performing all their successful jingles in between speeches.

Eddie Jefferson - Still on the planet
I love his versions of Bitches Brew and Freedom Jazz Dance from the other LP I have and this has a terrific version of Chameleon: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DIdy8NpjneE

Clifford Thornton New Art Ensemble - Freedom and Unity
I grabbed this mainly cause it looked the business. Only needle dropped but it sounds great - free but not too skronky.

    Abdul Wadud - By Myself
I'd seen this posted on Waxidermy I think so I took a punt. Again, only had a chance to needledrop but sounds pretty good on first pass.

Norma Winstone - Edge of Time
Again, only knew about this from posts on here. Very pleased with this one.

So, all in all quite a pleasant Thursday evening.

cheers for that oh divine one, a good yarn.

just grabbed myself a copy of the Faces Ooh La La for a buck, mostly for the mad cover, but I'm quite liking the Fly in the Ointment instrumental.

never been much of a fan of Rod's vocal stylings.

and Randy Newman Orchestra's Peyton Place soundtrack which comes loaded with honking sax and a mid-60s rock and roll-type vibe. Not great but not bad neither. may have it's uses.
