Love this, weird vocoder sound towards the end.
They had a copy of this in the 'rare' box in Armadillo last time I was over.

I asked them to play it and I was all ready to splash the cash.............................................. .................................................. .......................and then the singing started.

Love the backing track though. Perhaps it'll appear on a minimal synth comp minus vocals and guitar!

Crank up the volume on "Slow Motion" from "Systems of Romance".
Awesome intro that I love to blast out at full volume on the car stereo. All in all a great album, as were all three John Foxx/Ultravox albums.

Agree and this one is my favourite. In my opinion all three are topped by John Foxx's Metamatic.

C'mon, that's part of the charm surely?
I don't think it makes it that bad... and the guitars set them apart from other similar bands, they have some great tracks with proper guitar wanking on them.

Got the charity bug so did another two today that I've never been to before. (Thanks to my friend who showed me the way). Everything was 50p and there where looots of crates in the first one, picked up 12 LPs and two 45s there. Next one was even cheaper at 30p for LPs but only found one record worth picking up. I left the moog record on Golden Hour, that is shit right?

Anyways. My iphone camera sucks bigtime and trying to center the pics with hipstamatic doesn't make it any easier:

    Jamie Owens - Growing Pains
Was hoping for some xian folk-funk/good folk heat here but apart from some ill-advised synth soloing it's pretty bland. Anybody interested let me know.

Jessi Colter - Diamond In The Rough
Guess this is well known mainstream stuff only I dont' know? Anyway it's country-ish with a good swamp rocking Get Back. Also going out.

    La Bionda - s/t
    "Sandstorm" on this is nice.

Salsoul Orchestra - Up The Yellow Brick Road
The tunes are not up to much, but as always with them some great breakdowns, especially in the West Side Story Medley. Sgt Pepper also fun.

Bonnie St Claire - Rock Goes On - The Best Of
Glam glammy glam glam. Shout if you want.

    Pierre Bachelet - Emmanuelle OST
Now we're talking! I didn't know anything about this film when I picked it up but my assumption that it was a soft porn soundtrack and that that should make it good both turned out right. With track titles like "Opium Den", "Night Club", "Rape Sequence" , "Cigarette Act" (I've been doing my homework now) I wasn't gonna leave it no chance. Apart from a nice title song and lots of variations on it, there is big drums on a couple of tracks and Opium Den and Rape Sequence are both mad and good.

    Hansi - Hair
Well, it was in nice condition and why not?

    Duke Grant - Hammond Gold
MY FIRST! Am I an approved vulture now? Still not listened, have HUGE expectations. Notice how it has held its value from the first time it was sold.

    Jacksons - Lovely One 12"
Eh. Don't know why, I can't stand MJ. Can probably make somebody happy.

    Marmalade compilation
Picked this up for "I See The Rain" and it sounds like it is the worst processed stereo job ever? The entire mix moves from right to left a couple of times, not in a good way.

    Family Four - Picknick
Yeah! Was recommended this a while ago, has great swedish language versions of A Horse With No Name and a flutey jazzy Chelsea Morning.

    Edwin Hawkins Singers
Gospel soul, nicely produced with good drums. Not really my thing though, or should I give it another go? Up for whatever.

The three 45s I got were all the kind of Euro pop stuff I tell myself to stop buying blind but always end up doing anyway.

Also got the best looking copy of two "Fritt Fram" by Lill Lindfors if anyone wants it? Free against postage.

    Just a few things recently

Alain Kan - City Palace / Nadine, Jimmy Et Moi - Motors

    Ramones - Don't Come Close / I Don't Want You - Sire

and whilst browsing the 45s in Spillers picked up

    Gruff Rhys / Y Niwl - Y Baban Bach / Y Baban Bach - Ovni

pleased with finding this as it was limited to 300 copies

Well Man of Mystery is great. And there's a decent Persuaders theme too.

There's also a peculiar bubbly beatless piece called "Sleep Walk" lurking at the end of side 2 that is quite different from everything else on the LP. It's listenable but not quite great and is perhaps best regarded as a failed attempt at futurism/experimentalism tagged onto the end of the LP simply to get band member Derek Scott a share of the publishing royalties. The album has it's moments and at £1 or less feels like a keeper.

The same track also crops up as an uncredited bonus track at the end of 1996's "Easy Project 2: House of Loungecore" compilation (CD and LP+12" editons)

I picked up 'Meddle' from a corner shop (!) in Athens. It's an early 70s UK issue in ex, cheap too... The girl behind the counter told me they're going to offload more records (obviously hers/the shop owner's collection)..

Now Hear This: On "The Easy Project", it's played backwards. Or maybe it's played forwards, and the version at the end of "Many Moogs..." is the backwards one. Who knows?

Got a day off from family duties on Saturday and did the rounds. Spent virtually nothing and came home with:

I'd seen his records mentioned a few times so I was excited to find them in the cheap bins. I love E Pluribus Unum!

Nice to get a cheap spare of this.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4eRo94I3aA
Black Slacks - Joe Bennett and The Sparkletones:
Nice Aussie pressing of this fun rockabilly 45.

Plus I also got another version of the always fun 'Don't Be A Loser' on a crappy looking Xian record.

All in all, a good day was had by all.

picked up a couple of nice 7s...

Larry Steele, Watermelon Man (Air Stream).
no youtube link but it's all about the guitar and, well, I can never leave a version of that track behind.

The Pioneers, Roll Muddy River (Interfusion)
for the b-side Auntie Roachi which could add a hint of summer to the crappiest day.

and I'll dedicate both to our fine victory over the Aussies in Hobart. First test we've won over there since Hadlee's big one in '86. Huzzah.

Yeah, all done without Dan, to boot! I was following the game on Cricinfo and really thought the Kiwi's had blown it when Lyon started impersonating a top-order bat. They'll be dancing in the streets of Auckland tonight, no doubt (to paraphrase Bill McLaren)

    In the mail:

Gil Melle & the Electronic Blues Quartet - Waterbirds
Excellent spaced out jazz with freaky electronics. Highly recommended (more for listening than dancefloors, but still).

In line with my old year resolution to post finds a bit more frequently (to cut down on how arduous my more sporadic posts are!), here's a few things that I acquired last week:

Parliament trade with Carlitos, almost got the set now, but could do with an Osmium OG (good luck with that!). Curfew was off the 'Bay, but nice and cheap - think I was the only bidder - it's all about 'Photogenic Jenny'. The glorious Vannier box set, courtesy of the Finders Keepers crew. Really great package and congratulations are due to all concerned. B52s was part of a trade on the market on Saturday (more of which re: the next pic), I've got a bit obsessed with 'Rock Lobster' lately, part nostalgia and part cos it's a fucking great tune!

Continuing the trades deal I did on the market on Saturday. I took loads of my recent trades listings down (as warned!) and I also 'filletted' my collection, taking out items I can't see me using again or random bits of funk/soul. Cheeky bit of Acker Bilk, obviously for 'Acker Raga'. I got my 'Mojo' working and dipped my toe in the Dylan pool for the first time, but mainly cos of the Godlike presence of The Band. VV/VG+ 'canon' piece of CCS. And, completely influenced by the recent documentary, decided to pay the Quiet Beatle a bit more respect.

Top two were also trades from Saturday. UPP is nice funky/jazzy prog, good tunes and some breaks - little bit masturbatory on the bass, but enjoyable nonetheless. Yup, Mombasa acquired for a very reasonable trades price. Shame that the sleeve's a little damaged (must have been stored in slightly damp conditions) but the vinyl's in great shape. Not my kind of music though, so if anyone's got a suitable trade to offer me, feel free to PM. The bottom two were off the same eBay seller (to get value out of postage) a few weeks back and have only just landed. Sole bidder on both items. Dead chuffed to have Rotary Connection OG, containing my favourite tune of all time. Have to say, I think the Prince 12" is my favourite recent acquisition though. Christ he was amazing during this era, what a talent!! More of these please!
If you will suck my soul, I will lick your funky emotions.

so, not only did we win what's come to seem an unwinnable fixture (most of our cricket team weren't even born the last time we won in Oz) and, as Plainstone suggested, had a wee dance in the streets, but I just picked up my third spare of Hansi's Well Kept Secret in the past two weeks.

it's got to mean something. any Mayans in the house?
