Ha! I've spent at least two solid mornings in that little cubby hole. Brass band and ragtime heaven, it is, but I picked up a few nice jazz, ethnic and Brazilian pieces. .
In fact, the Jose Barrense Dias track on my Xmas swap came from there. About where your belly button is, I think.

Class mate...It's the room to the left of me that you can just make out that's where all the heat is, all the stuff in there is to sort, I wanted to get in there and have a good rummage but I don't think your allowed plus I'd didn't have the time.

All the records were upstairs on one of the top floors first time I went in the 90s. I'm glad I didn't work there when they took them down.

I would have pulled a sicky that day/week if I worked there!
I need to have a proper look there some time, as I'm sure there would be something I would want, the four records I had pulled were all doubles, in the end I only got one of them as the other three were way too pricey!

I've done my stint in the Jazz Cave too, probably years after you, so got nowt. They've probably had all that stock from new & it's still priced the same, it'll still be there when we're all dead & gone. You're better off doing the Botchergate charity crawl.

Now that is a depressing spot of retail therapy. It started reminding me of Stalingrad down the far end.
Good to see you pop up again, Mr Sondek. I always enjoyed your posts.

Solid advice on all accounts...
I've fished a few decent records out of Carlisle on the odd time I've been able to pass through, all of them from the charities.
That classical shop isn't worth the time in my opinion, but then I do know nothing about classical records...
Curiously a shop in Birmingham has taken in a massive classical collection, probably a good 3000+ LPs I would say. Fairly mainstream in its make-up but one could pick up a few key works, I should imagine. 3-5 each, probably a lot less for bulk.
At first I bought records, then I started to collect records; now I merely accumulate records.
On this album there are a number of tracks with a foxtrot or tango type backbeat, and a couple of vaguely Shadowesque RnR numbers; all this, added to the cod flamenco flourishes, heavy reverb, and surfy tremelo action, adds up to a bizarre cheesefest selection
I do rather like the opener "Stormy Night Guitar"
Here's a track from the album I found on Youtube:
Attention!!! I know this is a very expensive Price for the record. This i one of my most beloved Records, so my primary intention isn't the selling. I like it in my collection. I only will sell it, if someone wants it that much, that he is willing to pay that much money. Therefore the unrealistic price. Please don't tell me about it. I don't want to cheat ,I don't force someone into buying it, I don't want to drive up the price. Thanks for understanding
Mr Mack - surely that can't be your only find from Melbourne.?
Nope.
<female voice, slightly incredulous>
"what, you're taking photos of them so you can show off to your friends?!?!?"
Oz quotient:
One Sven Libaek
One Don Burrows
One John Sangster
Two Brian Browns
One v scarce jazz ep on Vamp
Non-Oz:
One Karin Krog
The Sauvage MP2000
One Joe Harriott ep
Photos to follow when it's not sunny, I'm not on the beach and it's not Xmas/eve
and more importantly when I've worked out how to do all the usual upload/c&p shenanigans on this fecking iPad. On 3G with poor reception and did I mention it's Xmas eve and I'm on the beach and it's sunny etc
My finds from yesterday (23/12/2011) sorry no pics because, like The Mack, I'm posting this remotely...
From the market:-
Freddie Hubbard "Hub Tones" (Blue Note)
Donald Byrd "A New Perspective" (Blue Note)
Wayne Shorter "Night Dreamer" (Blue Note)
... Great albums, all EX stereo pressings from the early 70's.
From Second Scene:-
Miles Davis "Milestones" (Fontana UK)
Miles Davis "The Most Of Miles" (Fontana UK)
Gerry Mulligan "At The Village Vanguard" (HMV UK Mono)
Eddie Russ "See The Light" (Monument USA)
Singers & Players "War Of Words" (On-U-Sound)
An old On-U favourite, love "Quante Jubila" with Prince Far I's mighty vocal. Loved this for years off one of the Pay It All Back compilations, pretty good to have the original album at last.
The Abyssinians "Forward On To Zion" (Klik Records UK)
Turns out this is a UK issue (1977) of the classic Satta A Masagana album that surely needs no introduction..? Awesome.

Not that far from me
Craig, is all the stock priced? classical more so than others
I never looked at any of the classical, but the other stuff was priced in pencil on the inner sleeve, so I would assume the classical was the same Mark mate.

Today I discovered my aunts tiny store room in the basement (I'm visiting my family in montreal). Not a lot of records but there was one filled plastic bag with maybe 20 singles and 20 lps… Asking her about records days before, she offered me to have a look and to have them, as she doesn't listen to them anymore. and she always told me, aahh they're very old, I'm sure you won't like them. I took the whole bag up to the apartment because of the poor light, dust and freezing canadian wintercoldness in the basement.
the first ones i got a glimpse of were some beethoven and other classical stuff. first ones which caught my attention were.
Renée Claude – Je reprends mon souffle LP
Jacques Michel - S.O.S. LP
Don't know them and as I haven't got any working record player here, I have to wait until january to know more about the music. but i hope to hear some nice tunes on it. the gatefold covers seem promising. anyone?
no more interesting lps there. well, i will have a second look tomorrow.
then the singles caught my attention. First one to pull.
also in the the pile… Les chats sauvage – toute la nuit/oh lady
and joel dénis – yaya/le bonheur n'est-il pas fait pour moi http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_29_krINas
very nice tune.
what a great afternoon. my mom, aunt and me googling the music and them getting all nostalgic and i all excited. Merci ma tante and merry xmas.
