    Default RIP Keef Hartley

A few weeks ago now, but think the man deserves his own thread...

I had a soft spot for Keef - his ambitions kind of outstripped his talents slightly (it was fellow band member Miller Anderson that had the voice and wrote most of the songs) but he seemed like a real character.

Their albums seem largely forgotten now - compared to their peers like Colosseum who seem to get much more respect - but there's loads of nuggets dotted around their catalogue...

You Can Choose Storming horn rock classic!

Leavin' Trunk - HEAVY HEAVY late 60s UK blues rock at it's best with a riff that leaves you nursing minor concussion

Imitations From Home - ace slightly spacey/jazzy instro as featured on Flytipper's 2009(?) xmas swap cd

    How sad.

Widely ignored but responsible for some really enjoyable brass rock.

Really like his 'Time is Near' album.

Don't forget his work with The Artwoods: Keep Lookin'

...and apparently he was the guy who filled Ringo Starr's shoes in Rory Storm & The Hurricanes when Ringo left for The Beatles.

They played at Woodstock. Keef Hartley Band were the only group to decline when asked if they wanted to be included in the film. Can't help feeling their career never really recovered after that decision....

Crap, uncommercial name for a group too.

All of which rather endears them to me. Good records too.

    RIP The Keef Hartley.
