    Default NRR Favourite cocktails

I've never been much of drinker but recently I tried my first Old Fashioned (Rye Whisky, Bitters, Sugar...) and have had the scales lifted from my eyes.

I've tried a few different cocktails since then and also have found a fondness for the Whisky Sour and Manhattan, but the Old Fashioned is still reigning champ.

Can anyone recommend anything else I might like if that's the taste i'm partial to (simple, spirit heavy, not too sweet)?

There are just SO MANY cocktail recipes online and I don't really know where to go next.

    Cheers
    Jamie

Very partial to mojitos, me. Difficult to find somewhere that does a good one here, though ... outside of expensive hotel bars.

Used to make Spanish Coffees on a regular basis, but as with any drink that involves setting fire to it, best to let someone else take over once you've had a few.

I take it you're just working your way through the major food groups - whisky, tequila etc - or are you going for the classics first and branching off from there?

Classics, that then lead me through food groups if you know what I mean.

Negroni is not too sweet - incredibly bitter but I like it:
One part gin, one part sweet vermouth, and one part Campari.

    Another favorite is Gimlet:
Gin & Rose's Lime with crushed ice - you can experiment with the proportions but I like 2 parts gin and one part Rose's Lime.

I finally accepted expat status this year and started on the pink gins. I like the pink left in, like Bond. Still working on the crumpled linen suit and the approach from MI6.
Dry martini is another virtually neat drink disguised as a cocktail, but more for when you're with a wisecracking dame.
Other favourites are vodka with Schweppes Russian and various sherry cocktails with fresh fruit (oranges, peaches strawberries, sugar to taste). Sherry should be a cheap fino or a manzanillo.

Manhattan - tall glass crushed ice... shaken not stirred in the slightest... and some sort of poker/stiring device to grab the cherry if you please

Not a fan of regular coctail glasses due to the spillage factor of the wide brim... after half a dozen this becomes an issues

Another nice one is the Rob Roy (which will have any whiskey purists on here protesting) - again lots of versions but basically:

    3 parts Scotch
1 part Sweet Vermouth (can be Red - that's one variation)
(1 dash Angostura Bitter - optional)
    Garnish with cherry

    Surprisingly tasty.

Not that fussed on cocktails (or most spirits in general) but a shot of Pernod and a bottle of Crabbies Ginger Beer goes nicely together

Can't beat a proper moscow mule.... vodka, ginger ale, freshly squeezed lime juice and angostora.

For simplicity you can't beat a T & T, Tequila, Tonic water and freshly squeezed lime juice.

The girls round my way like the French Martini and I can taste why:

    1 measure vodka
1 measure of Chambord (Raspberry Liqueur in the crown like bottle)
    2 measure of pineapple juice

Shake with ice and pour with a strainer. Shake again half way through pouring so it finishes with a nice but of froth on top.

Of all the 'holiday' cocktails, it's the Pina Colada every time.

I'm also partial to a Strawberry Daiquiri, with lime juice rather then cream/condensed milk and here is one I'm proud to admit that myself, my lady and a friend came up with when working behind a bar in Glasgow a few years back: The Drumstick
1 measure of Sailor Jerry (Old Recipe)
    1 measure of Strawberry Vodka
into a tall glass and filled to top with lemonade then stirred.

Unfortunately for you, The Drumstick doesn't work now the Sailor Jerry has changed the recipe of the rum. Fortunately for me, I made sure I stocked up on this fine stuff which is my favourite ever tipple and have enough bottles to be rationed over the next 40 years or whatever remains of my life....

theres a nice version of this using Bison Grass Vodka, frozen raspberries mixed into orange juice, then chambord - i think it's called a Libido. You can top it off with cava for a Libido Royale. it's a bit girly but it gets you whalloped while believing you are drinking a pudding.

Tesco's have got Zubrowka (Bison Grass Vodka) on offer, you must try it, it has a really delicate flavour and is supposed to be an aphrodisiac.

Caperhina is another classic. To be honest though, if an Old Fashioned hits the spot then there'll be little else to compete. You could try an John Collins, which is another bourbon & sour cocktail or a Tom Collins which is the same thing cept with Gin.

Caipirinha is excellent but the Cachasa you can get in Sweden really is horrible - it's all whiskey. When will people learn that Rum and related stuff like Cachasa is just as sophisticated and much tastier?

Tom Collins is great - but more of a long drink / tall drink - whatever you call it.

Default "Russian bear" "medved prishiol, medved ushiol"

You take one glass of 0.500. Half vodka - half beer. You drink 1/3 and put beer, drink 1/3 and put beer ... until almost all is beer. After that you drink 1/3 and put vodka, drink 1/3 and put vodka... until all is vodka.
Not recommended to dive or drive after.
I tried to try this once in Russia... oh my god!

A game of two halves ... and at the end of the day it's eleven men against the Grim Reaper. If you could deep fry it, it'd be a hit where I come from.

    Default Havana Club trio

I found an ep of the official band of the Cuban's Rum "Havana club". And on the back 3 (I think well known) cocktails:

    It is summer - cheers
