Naturally being a bit long in the tooth my pulse didn't speed up greatly as I approached this large cardboard box. Sure enough it was full of scratched Led Zep LPs.

There might have been some good stuff in the Japanese sections but VG YMO - BGM for JPY2500 and FEFB represses for JPY12000 led me to believe it was better to pass ... unless you have a VHS player and like videos of OLs micturating into dishes.

Yes, this place is strange. I think Brainbomb agrees. It seems more like storage for unwanted, mostly irrelevant, records with the occasional very few worthwhile finds than a serious recordshop. Once found stone mint deadstock of Marky Mark's album. But for some reason I keep going back once in a while.

Yes... not the best place around here. And it is very strange. So much crap and then unexpectedly you go there and find something like:

SPK - Auto Da Fe on the wall for at least a reasonable price
Groupie Girl on the wall for a very good price
OG Astro Sounds for £1 in the cheapie bins (ok, ok something like that only happened to me once and it was years ago but still)

So you can't help but wanting to pop by every now and then even though you come home empty-handed or with just some cheap punt that turns out to be nothing special.

I think they make the majority of their money on DVDs, books, CDs (new and used). But still - fair amount of people go there and buy vinyl too.

If you're looking for a pristine copy then this isn't the one for you. The vinyl looks like someone has polished their brickwork with it and the label has been ruined by some fool with a pen.

Funny the contrast between these two images. I know which I'd rather look through, although I suspect the quality could well be higher in the other one...

Well the pic with the ladder is from Lost In Music in Cornwall and it's been dug over repeatedly by knowledgable folk years before I became aware of the place, yet I still managed to find a nice bit of Italo and an in demand boogie joint on my last visit, plus lots of good but common joints.

The place in Cornwall looks like my living room - the ladder I have is a bit smaller

This one looks like Yellow Pop - fantastic store - although the crawling around the floor for the electonic and 80s stuff is a bit of a challenge... but well worth the effort.

Ooops - - Yellow Pop has a similar filing system - the records displayed with the spines out - quite a lot of the stores seem to file this way... often a bit of a back breaking dig, but a good chance of top bits being stashed there in...

It was Otomushi, but you're right J. It does look like a (grubbier) version of the Yellow Pop store we went to.

The David White Gallery (sic) in Wellington, NZ.

All these photos are of the chaotic back room. There's barely enough room to move around and avalanches are common. There's a small front room which is relatively tidy and another room/corridor which connects the two which is crammed with stuff. No ultra rarities but lots of interesting stuff which reminded me of Cheapo Cheapo Records in Soho.

I was actually talking about this earlier today, I had this record out last night..

Both The Count Five and The Chocolate Watchband were local bands here. They're two of my favorite Garage/Psych groups so this fact is pretty cool to me! Anyway, there's a photo of the band on the back cover. They're all standing in front of the 'Winchester Mystery House' wearing capes! One of the all time best cover art photos.

I don't know if you guys are familiar with the Winchester Mystery House, but if you aren't, Sarah Winchester was the wife of William Winchester of Winchester firearms. She built this big house here (it's about 10 mins away from me). She kept adding on rooms and passageways (that went nowhere) because a psychic told her it would keep the spirits at bay, and also that she would die if she stopped construction. So the house is a tourist attraction here. There's also a movie theater dome complex next to it, saw many movies there when I was a kid.

Came upon this new little gem of a store in Tallinn Old Town, right next to the Depeche Mode bar, while visiting there last weekend..this was possibly the first time I stepped in to a record store for all year, and I'm glad I did: the store had a nice, well-organized stock of Melodiya titles (including all the Collage lps etc) , quite interesting Sovjet era memorabilia, the guy working there seemed quite knowledgeable and was up for a chat + I got a few gaps filled in my collection, incl. clean copies of both Raivo Tammiku 7"s straight from a fresh pile of new arrivals behind the counter, and the Golotschkin(?) lp I had been after..I guess I got too excited to take pics myself, luckily a mate had taken a few without me noticing it (gotta love the color scheme on the walls)..definitely worth checking out while in town
