I'm really looking forwards to Ridleys return to Sci -Fi. Alien & Blade Runner are his greatest films. This trailer is really cool.

As for the alien lifecycle being messed around with in all sequels and offshoots - well it is the perfect organism - it adapts to surivive and evolves very quickly...how else to explain how it manages to incubate and birth in about 60 seconds flat in AVP?

AVP & AVP:R are both really funny. Someone onceraiseda good pint to me. if thr alien takes on characteristics of it's host, then how home the ones in AVP:R are not all tramps?

Also - Alien 3 work print - first hour is so good it brings a tear to the eye. If only they had left Fincher alone to get on with it. Still a really good film in this form though.
I have a very particular set of skills...

Too right - I HATE that frivolous moonlight with a passion. I wouldn't put on my scarlet pumps for anything less than sensible moonlight.

No, I think there's very little CG in them, which makes them so 'believable' compared to films with computer rendered characters. They might be spectacular but I don't really feel any involvement.

Anyone think ET or the Star Wars films were improved by the addition of CG? It just shat on some lovely childhood memories personally.

I didn't know Noomi Rapace was gonna star in this. Happy for her that her Hollywood career is going well.

So am I, but I do wonder why she couldn't have starred in the 'Dragon Tattoo' remake given that she's able to star in lots of other US films.

Well no, of course not. Star Wars special edition and Parts 1 - 3 are now days so widley bashed as being shite because they are only about the CG,
not story/characters that I think you'll be hard pressed find someone who does think they are as good as or better than the originals.

I wonder why they had to do a remake with exactly the same plot, set and filmed in stockholm, with fake swedish accents, at all? Not that I really care as crime fiction of any kind is boring the hell out of me. But I happen to think Noomi is hot and I look forward to see her fighting aliens rather than as an overaged emo.

The Swedish films were rush-jobs and look like a TV series rather than cinema. Fincher's almost sure to do a better job, but it's not the sort of tale you could transplant to California.

Is Noomi related to one of those models Modigliani painted?

got to agree with you. they're as overrated as the books - but then I read and watched them all the same...hmmm.

as for the sweep on first cast member to die, I'll go for whoever's wearing the fetching red tunic.

Saw it today. Excellent visuals do not make up for the piss poor script, bad editing and pacing, and lacklustre performances from the majority of the cast. Shockingly bad!

I tried to leave my brain at the door, but the plot holes are so gapingly huge they cannot be avoided. It looks good though...

Yes - Looked amazing - some fantastic set pieces and hints at what could have been..... The central premise was fine - intriguing. But really - the script was god-awful, the acting (mostly due to script) was dodgy, some of the characters were laugh-out-loud walking cliches (but not in a sci-fi good way), as you say the pacing was deplorable - everyone on the edge of the seat, terrifying scene, and then 5 minute talkie (about something totally different) section. Overall the big problem is the lack of continuous, growing threat. For big periods of the film there is no creeping dread or fear for the characters. Lots of holes (a desperate attempt at readying it for the beginning of Alien - but.....), and lots of whys (but why did he do that, why did he become that etc?)

Having said that - it was worth seeing. The day after and there are scenes that are staying with me - but these are mostly scenic rather than character ones.

    Spoilers!

The bit where Noomi Rapace is running around after "that bit" and then finds some other crew members who don't give a shit?
The bit where the old man has to hide away on a mission he himself funded for 1 trillion dollars?
The bit in the tunnels where the two geologists are at one moment shit scared and then try to get all cuddly with the alien thingy????
The bit where Idris Elba suddenly has it all figured out, despite hardly leaving the ship, and later decides upon the ultimate sacrifice??????

Plot holes so large you could drive the Nostromo through....
