I'm looking to put out a small run of 100 records some time later in the year. Can anyone recommend somewhere reasonable that does this?
Never put out vinyl before. Much appreciated.

If you pour boiling hot water over the head of someone from Dundee you'll get a new flavour of Pot Noodle - Jerry Sadowitz.
small runs are quite expensive, and sometimes dont come with covers.
might be best to price things up first. sometimes getting 250 works out cheaper.
i use Disk Manufacturing Services. but i get emailed by only-vinyl with offeres now and again, they look cheap but i havent used them yet
i didnt. i do all that at home.
they will do it for you, at a price. probably best to get it all mastered and finished before you give it to them. to save money.
currently working with these people.
just received the testpresses and they seem to make a wonderful job.
they were recommended on this very forum once.

And while we're on the subject, what's the average dealer price on a 7" these days? I'm a good ten years out of the record shop game, so I'm not sure what shops are paying distributors. I see retail prices from £3 upwards to a tenner, with most around £5 or £6, so I'm guessing around the 3 quid mark average dealer price?
Much obliged![]()
they pretty much cost £3 ish to make. i was going to do a split 7" but im not sure what price to put it up as.
much easyer to do a split 10", costs only a little more to make but can be sold for about a tenner.
Where's best place to get 10" made Eric? I thought they cost the same as 12"
yeah exactly the same price as 12"s to make.
disk manufacturing services do them. im thinking of trying a 10" release next month.
"Not only that but the WHOLE COVER is UNCREASED with only 2 or 3 TINY creaselines near the opening edge about half way down!!!! In the same place (about half way down the opening edge), there is an absolutely TINY and PERFECTLY repaired split" (xxxrecords)
Is doing the sleeve elswhere recommended, any tips?

i need tips on covers as well.
can only get 250 with covers, would do more runs of 100 if i could get covers done elsewhere.
anyone knows where i can get plain white 10" carton sleeves without any holes?![]()

What do you use for mastering Eric? Just a few plug ins or have you got some interface/ sound desk thing going on? I'm thinking of doing a low 150/200 run of some stuff. My mate was quoted £500 for 200 LP's with just paper sleeves and printed labels.
7s seem to be very expensive to press up.
ive got a few mastering plug ins, they always help.
seems with vinyl you can get £250 lps with covers for a decent price, any less and it just becomes expensive, to the point that your nearly spending the same amount on 100 as you would to get 250 all done at the same time with artwork.
seems 7"s are only a couple of hundred less to make than 10"s or 12"s, but 10 and 12" can be sold for a lot more than 7"s. though if i could get someone to print 300 standard 7" sleeves, with holes, then id be tempted to do loads of small runs of 100 7"s.
im not expert though, im sure other people have found cheaper or better companies than me. ive only done 4 lp and 3 cd releases.
There was a pretty good thread on this topic over at waxidermy a while back: http://waxidermy.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=27778
I don't understand why people skimp on mastering. Surely you want your record to sound as good as it possibly can? Mastering for a vinyl cut is very different to other formats.

i always make a vinyl mix, in fact the last album i did i did a totally different mix and tracklisting order, though i messed up and missed a track off it![]()

to be honest, it would probably be fine on vinyl as it is.
all the releases my brother does he only does one master and sends it to one company to do the vinyl and cd versions.
We were getting £2.95 a seven, but we upped it to £3.20 (I think!) for the last two sevens, in an attempt to lose less money per release. Sales are down on these two, though whether there's a correlation, I couldn't say. It would have made the shop price go from £5 to £5.50/£6, depending on the shop.
Don't call it a comeback... H, N, and the number 7.
Ok, it's a bit of a comeback, I suppose...
