Ahhh, Theme De YoYo...
I'll admit that's the only Arts Ensemble Of Chicago LP I've ever owned. Any of the others worth picking up..?
What's the Sabu LP..?Don't know it or recognise it... Sabu Martinez maybe..?
"Sometimes I get a hot ear..."
It's the only Art Ensemble LP that I have too, Sie. But do you know that Brigitte Fontaine record they play on? Comme a la Radio it is called and it's in the same style as Theme de Yoyo.
I assume Sabu is Sabu Martinez indeed, but the record mentions nothing other than just 'Sabu'. Even the writing is credited to 'Sabu'.
Thanks BK...![]()
"Sometimes I get a hot ear..."
Yeah - Sabu is Martinez.
Good album, that.
Liberia's only (einzige) disco-jazz-rock band
I don't know it, I only have his two on Metronome... I best go have a snuffle about for one...
"Sometimes I get a hot ear..."
Simon, Simon, Simon, how many times do we have to do this?
For the deepness, and the raer-ness, the Swedish ones are good, there's also those nice recent-ish issues of contemporaneous stuff (Burned Sugar, etc)
And then there's pure fire from 1961.
PS. Nice chart, BlastKid.
You should get Black Sugar - previously unreleased readio recordings.
Funky as hell!

(sorry for spreading the word on Sabu in this thread - I'll shut up now)

Love that Candy Clouds album, not strictly jazz all the way through either
Still trying to find Dulfer's El Saxofon lp, one day![]()
