very happy to have scored a reissue of the never properly released (does that make it a reissue or a very tardy issue?) Jesse Harper album by Kiwi 60s guitar hero Doug Jerebine.

    it's out on Drag City.

Jerebine's backstory of psychedelic rock God to Hare Krishna hippy can be found here: http://www.wordworx.co.nz/jesseharper.html

I saw him play support for the Damned last week - he's built his own electric sitar and seven string guitar. for a drums and him duo they made one mother of a racket - almost managed two whole jams in a 30 minute set which confused a good many aged stuck-in-their-ways punks. nice robes too.

    anyway, I've got a one-time code for a download if anyone's interested.

just PM me with a return email. probably can't send it till Tuesday but - got a long weekend to enjoy first.

FINALLY got round to taking a large pile of stuff I'm never going to listen to again down to my local record emporium to trade in.

Came home a happy man with these three tucked under my arm.

The Eric Von Schmidt is great, if things like this do it for you.
    They certainly do for me.

The Holy Modal Rounders is sort of like The Fugs on miaow-miaow in Kentucky.
Very much pre-empts much of the later alt-folk schtick like Jeffrey Lewis and so on.

Some bits from a record fair, a couple of charity shops, plus a web shop buy and a birthday present:

Very pleased to find the Misty's "Wise And Foolish" - missed it at the time and only a fiver

In A Silent Way is the Music On Vinyl repress and was a birthday present from my mom. This is my favourtite thing from the last couple of months - anything in a similar vein I should be checking out? The Metamono "Tape EP" 10" was bought from their website - http://www.metamono.co.uk/shop_music.html - recorded in mono and also available on cassette, I was pleased to note. Also very happy with the Bim Sherman / Jah Lion "Down In Jamdown" Hitrun 12" - lovely clean copy and tidy labels too - free from 'soundman markings' - doubling up on this one, but my other copy has different colour labels, so I have to keep both!

Don't spose this needs any introductions...

Nice Black Ark production hidden on the back of the Bad Case Of Lovin' You 7" - have a couple of copies already, so shall probably eBay this one

Can anyone fill in any details on this 12"? From the look of the label I thought it'd be some bad (as in shite) UK rap thing from the '90s, but it turns out to be a not-half bad '80s sounding electro funky thing (sorry - genre recognizement (?) / naming never a strong point...). Googling bought up next to nothing, only that it was featured on a CD comp a year or two back. Is it a bootleg? An odd one, but worth a punt at 50p. I'd be grateful for anyone's thoughts or more info on it...

Visited the local secret squirrel emporium and found a few well known and very agreeable bits:

Johnny Bristol - Hang On In There Baby (MGM) lp

Carole King - Music (A&M) lp

It would have been rude to have left this as it's nice and clean and it is something I have avoided for so long but I'm enjoying it!

Lesley Duncan - Earth Mother (CBS) lp

    Ace.
Attention!!! I know this is a very expensive Price for the record. This i one of my most beloved Records, so my primary intention isn't the selling. I like it in my collection. I only will sell it, if someone wants it that much, that he is willing to pay that much money. Therefore the unrealistic price. Please don't tell me about it. I don't want to cheat ,I don't force someone into buying it, I don't want to drive up the price. Thanks for understanding

Some 45s crossed off the list lately.

    Folky femme psych:

    Long time sikesoul want 1:

    Long time sikesoul want 2:

Garage psychprog-pop? Long 45 edit for that extra acidic guitar freakout:

Finally! Thanks Nikos mp3000! Love the record shop sticker too!

I discovered an Alladin's cave just round the corner! A charity shop in the crypt... sorry basement beneath the local church, not many records but lots of potential, not least because it seems to be fairly unknown to others than elderly ladies! Picked up a cool indian necklace, two shit records by Joan Manuel Serrat and Jessy Dixon and this blaxploitation-ish early disco 45. Does this qualify for VV classicness?

Picked up these in a local shop today:

    Great record!

Missed Boney's giveaway, so picked this up:

Almost put this greek new wave record back in the pound box after listening. Sounded better when I came home, and realised it's quite sought after. Not decided if it's flip or file yet (ooh waxi lingo):

The Sean P Originals comp? I don't know that track, but he's Mr raer boogie, so I reckon you've got yourself a bargain there!
it's OK to head out for wonderful, but on your way to wonderful, you're gonna have to pass through all right. When you get to all right,
take a good look around and get used to it, because that may be as far as you're gonna go.

Default Perhaps not as good as Bulgaria, but I've had fun...

Haven't posted here for a long while. Here are some favourites from the last few months. First up, 12" singles:

The Subhumans s/t - Canadian punk 12" includes the brilliant Slave To My Dick
Stanton Warriors - Pop Ya Cork - bounce!
Skyy - First Time Around acr Larry Levan mix
    Dimples D - Sucker DJs
Chickens Lip Bell X1 - dead good!
And best of all... Echo Minott - Murder Weapon dancehall win!!! Such a great track.

I made some great trades from you good people on this here site. Thank you all!!! Here are some of them:

    Some internet purchases:

Pretty Percussion - after genning up on my Circle of Sound on forumusic
John Scott/Pere Ubu well known here
Xavier Cugat - mainly for this Apache
Art Blakey again after reading recent thread
The Harvey Averne Barrio Band - wanted this for a while

Now my charity shop cheapies fun:

Right at the back is a Canadian library with a killer drum/marimba track. Can't remember name right now.
    Frances Lai - Homme/Femme loveliness
Peggy Lee - Jump For Joy - very pleasing
Eckstine/Basie - again, I was really surprised by this.
Pepper Box - from Vinyl Demand in Sheffield
Alan Caddy - has a super Put A Little Love in Your Heart in it, one of my favourite cheeseball songs.
    B52s Mesopatamia
Larry Elgart - some space age pop!!
Magnificent Movie Themes - couple of kicking tracks
Hollywood Soundmakers... really surprised to not see this talked of well here. Stripped down Morricone covers, drums, bass, guitar and organ. What's not to like?
Revolutionary Opera record from the People's Republic. Crap music, killer diller aesthetic.
Wilson Lewes Trio - exploito pop jazz?? Anyways, I loves their hand-clappy drum echoey happy take on 'The In Crowd'

    More charity thrills:

Neil Norman - Sci-fi Themes 2 - again, what's not to like about this? Loud bass and drums, loads of synth and Les Baxter producing
Space Art - well known synth gear
Praise Space Electric - full on 90s psych freak rock and waaaaay out it is too. Record is fucked from one too many 90s parties.
Rush - mint first LP! I didn't think I'd like it... but I do. Lots.
Codona - pleased to find this Brasilian jazz thing for cheap.
Los Dourados - and at the same place, I snagged a 50p copy of this AlanMck tip.
Mississippi Fred McDowell & Johnny Woods - pretty raw stuff (that sounds grrrreat in my nice living room)
Rumbas Pop - acr Spanish comp, lots of clapping.
And then two Gus Vali comps - a Greek American who appeared to knock out quite a lot of stuff over the years. Am investigating.

Lots of 7" too but I don't have the organisational skills to track them.

    Rare bird - S/T (Charisma)
Been after this one for a while (Well since Nige played me it!), loving 'Beautiful scarlet'.

Edgar Broughton band - Sing brother sing (Harvest)
Spare, coming your way Nige mate.

    Rhythm heritage - Disco-fied (ABC)
Not sure why I picked a spare of this up!

Another weekend, another city, another record fair. From Copenhagen:

Tony Williams Lifetime - Turn it Over
Already got it on a double LP compiled with one of the Emergencies and credited to John McLaughlin... record companies are funny... how's that for a cash-in?

Bert Kaempfert - Let's go Bowling
I thought this was supposed to be good - seemed pretty plain after needle dropping.

    La Revolution Francaise
Rock opera double album from 1973 with a bit of Franck Pourcell involvement about the French revolution - and a comic about the revolution as well. Hs to be checked out right? Seems like it could have some nice bits on it.

    V/A - Changes
Cheap but in poor condition comp of kraut. Bought to further investigate Krokodil and other acts.

    V/A - 2. Ceskoslovensky Beat-Festival
Had expected more with a lineup including Flamingo and Framus Five....

    Dreams - S/T
Thought this would be nothing special - Fred Weinberg involvement and Abercrombie guesting on guitar but somehow it didn't feel quite right. I was wrong - very nice, somewhere between jazzfunk and hornrock.

    Cold Blood - Sisyphos
Didn't know what to expect but looked interesting. Ex-library record (real one with books) so dirt cheap because of ugly stickers and crap. Listening as I type this and is also some kinda hornrock/jazzfunk. And also nice.

Michael Nesmith - Pretty Much Your Standard Ranch Stash
He's done some nice things, maybe this is one of them? Also ex-library.

Link Wray - The Link Wray Rumble
Another ex-library. Bernie Krause credited on moog makes it worth a chance.

Witthuser and Westrupp - Trips und Traume
Kraut. Don't know what to expect. Cheap, not so nice vinyl. Bought because it may play good enough anyway and if not at least I'll learn something.

Bobo Stenson, Terje Rypdal, Arild Andersen, Jon Christensen - Sart
ECM from 1971. Always interesting. Ex-library.

    Rena Rama - Landscapes
More ex-library cheapness - Swedish 1977 jazz. Worth a punt.

    Daniel Viglietti - Tropicos
Nice looking sleeve with foldout. 1976 from Uruguay. Band with lots of brass and "l'Ensemble Vocal du Groupe d'Experimentation Sonore". It could of course be complete shit - but I'm sure most in this forum would also rescue it from the cheapie bins.

Joe Henderson and Woody Shaw - Jazz Patterns
More ex-library. Two interesting jazz names together on a record I've never seen.

    Maxime le Forestier - S/T
Well... he looks quite interesting on the sleeve.

Edison Electric Band - Bless You Dr. Woodward
    Another interesting looking thing.

    Cannonball Adderly Quintet - Pyramid
    With David Axelrod involvement.

    McCoy Tyner - Enlightenment
Another ex-library. Notice how cool Danish libraries appear to have been in the 70s??

    Pharoah Sanders - Karma
Long time want. Cheap. But vinyl looks a bit worn. I may have to continue searching for a copy. But if I'm lucky it plays better than it looks that some records do.

Eddie Palmieri with Harlem River Drive - Recorded live at Sing Sing
Latin gear for the prisoners? Cool!

Enrico Rava - The Pilgrim and the Stars
ECM again. And Rava has done some cool stuff. Ex-library again.

Pharoah Sanders - Live at the East
Ex-library - they appear to have tried to inflate the price by removing stickers. With the result that the cover has glued itself to the plastic sleeve so I dare not try and take it out just now. Guess they had to go with another low price on this one.

    Sun Ra - Atlantis
Normally I don't punt on Sun Ra - have to be able to listen or know it's good. But this one looked so interesting I just had to take a chance.

Alice Coltrane - Pthah, the el Daoud
Expect mindbending greatness from this. Will be very disappointed if it doesn't deliver.

Phew - that's it. Think I'm gonna stay away from record shops for a while now and recover financially and have time to listen to all the stuff I've bought recently.

Finally had a day to myself on Saturday and found some nice stuff in the cheap bins:

Human Instinct - Burning Up Years
NZ heavy-rock with a hint of psych. Got a small warp which makes the first track each side jump but i'm going to try a local flattening service. For $2 i'm not fussed either way

Emergency - Get Out To The Country
Jazz rock on Brain. Probably going straight in my trades box

    Notes From The Underground
Once again Vanguard proves to be a label to love. Some nice fuzz.

Al Styne - Yesterday When The World Was Warm
Happy to pick up this tepid Aussie cabaret record for cheap. Comped because of a workman like rendition of 'Vehicle'. But I like the song.

Car Crash Set - Imagination 12"
Picked this up for next to nothing cause it was $60 in the previous shop I was in. Turns out it's rather average synth pop from NZ with very early use of TB-303.

    Colin Newman - A-Z
I love Wire's 154 album and this is the closest thing i've heard to it.

Andraé Crouch & The Disciples – Take The Message Everywhere
A couple of nice upbeat xian-mod-soul tracks on this.

I also bought a stack of 13 Ecuadorian Cumbia records from a chazza (and got a bag of jelly babies thrown it). All of them are shit. Oh well. It was fun imagining how awesome they could have been.

Joe Henderson/ Woody Shaw: get past the cover, it's actually Part II of "Live At The Lighthouse" by Joe Henderson (Milestone), which is a belter of a set. should also have George Cables on keys

there's also two volumes of the Palmieri

Impulse stuff: you won't be disappointed by any of them.

and the Rava is a great record, not as sterile as some of the ECM stuff can be.

careful though, at your current rate of accumulation, you'll get indijazztion.

    Ha!

I actually tried to stay away from jazz at both this fair and the january one. Succeeded at the first one - bought a quite ecelectic mix of things. But this one - it was just that kind of fair. Very little I found interesting except for jazz bits.

    Here's a riddle:

I don't like piano jazz, unless electric piano. But I love McCoy Tyner, .

Funnily enough - this was one of the talking subjects in the car home. Though we used the word "stiff" I think - like that, in English. "Music for musicians" as my mate put it. But there are some gems to be found, so that's no reason to stay away from them.

Wtf - didn't hear anything about it. But I guess it was a good thing I kept an eye on things while my mate loaded the car when we were going home. He was a bit paranoid and said the only time he lost records were when he left the crates unguarded at the end of the fair (Helped out selling and carrying this time).

Could it be a sign of the end of days; people getting arrested for stealing stacks of raers among their peers
