Barely bought anything so far this year, but I picked up a copy of this from a charity shop this morning at the second time of asking - I'd left it before because it looked trashed, but a closer look today convinced me it was mostly dirt - as it proved: it plays fine even without a clean.

Great record.
It's been a while since I got round to posting any finds. Truth be told, I've been easing off a bit and buying (wait for it)....................things other than vinyl!!!!
But, I've occasionally lapsed and picked up a few bits via the usual sources: Grantham market, Rob's, chazza expeditions, GEMM and the evil 'Bay.
Sadly, haven't had much through VG+ trades lately, due to the quaint new attitude of several board members to trading i.e. I send out a load of vinyl to folk and get fuck all back! Four months and counting now fellas - shite really. And my last trades post was met by nowt but time-wasters!![]()
So, my circle of trusted traders contracts still further. Shame, cos trading on here used to be a great way of rejuvenating one's collection. Ho hum.
Anyway, getting back to 'flossing', here's what I've kept myself ticking over with:
Some VG+ friendly material in the above pic. Hardly ever see that Brucie LP around, maybe that's just me though. Last time I saw it was in a chazza and they'd got it at £10 - I think not. Can't fault it for cheap though. The C of S LP was just picked up to re-home round here as I know there are folk that collect just for the sleeves. The Hawksworth LP is one that I'm still not sure about. The village of Hawksworth is actually just round the corner from me! Irrelevant Nottinghamshire trivia alert.
Some tasty 12"s courtesy of Mr Divine (who understands the two-way concept of trading!) and a nice boot of the Ralph Lundsten 'Horrorscope' tune, as the album continues to elude me.
Bit of a motley crue here. Kenny Rankin brought about a wry smile as I'd not long traded one off of Sie-Fly and then another arrives, as is typical. The Cascades LP totally looked the part, but is pretty bad! Nice to find Moog Indigo in Oxfam. It wasn't cheap, but I don't have any qualms about paying collector prices in a charity shop, I'm happy to contribute and I get summat in return - everyone's a winner.
These all came from a local record fair. Nice to have the Georgie Fame LP, which means I now have that budget 'Bonnie and Clyde' one to lob as a freebie. The rest are all doubles and therefore headed for the trades pile (to be offered to the three or four folk that I still trust!).
Sivuca 12" and the peak period Prince-related LP were from a chazza. The Link Wray came off Grantham market, pretty much a one-tracker, but it's a strong track. Quite pleased with The Voice, they cover all bases/genres and some of the LP is really listenable, punctuated by the odd twee bit of pop pap, very much worth investigation though.
These were all interweb purchases. Nina & Frederik was acquired after recommendations round here and it's much, MUCH better than I'd expected - really strong jazz/folk grooves. I ummed and ahhed about 'Dolly Catcher' before being led astray by Sie-Fly who recommended that it needed to be bought as the price was good. Glad I allowed myself to crumble in the face of peer pressure though, some damn good tunes on there, as I'm sure most of you are all too aware. 'Loot' was off eBay and was a nice, low price with free p&p. Back of the net.
Quick trip into Lincoln on a beautiful sunny and frosty day last week (the cathedral looked amazing in those conditions) and got the two reissues from Back To Mono. Happy with both, Jim Ford is pretty much Da Man. And this is my first taste of Jess and James, pretty fookin' good. John Williams is one of those I'll always pick up if I see it for pence as it's a good freebie to offer. The Kenny Young is mostly awful, wet SSW stuff, but has one stand-out groover (featuring the usual UK session suspects).
I also buy quite a lot of books in chazzas and was particularly taken with this one for £2. Ok, it's a bit musty and I'm sure there's a revised edition which trumps it, but this is a really interesting period piece. Some stunning photos (I know NOTHING about photography really), often disturbing but they raise your appreciation of this form of photo-journalism. Because this is from 1972, the captions are quite revealing and somewhat unsettling as they don't benefit from hindsight i.e. there's little awareness of just what a fucking mess 'Nam was, no indication that Nixon was as dodgy as a referee at Stamford Bridge (pay me in roubles please), or that the Kennedys were not actually related to Mr J. Christ of Nazareth, but were in fact 10ft lizards. Great book anyway.
Think that's it for now. I'm off to watch some more of those 'Unsung' documentaries on YouTube - sobbed like a big twat at the Minnie Riperton one yesterday!!![]()
If you will suck my soul, I will lick your funky emotions.
Great stuff as usually there Ben mate, plenty of vulture classic's in amongst that lot it's still feels great to knock a few off the list.![]()
Shame about your trading situation on here.![]()
"Hangin' out with you two is like partying with Fugazi"
Glad you snapped and grabbed the Dolly Catcher Ben...will get some bits down to you [got a wee pile here-just been busy and slack] never seen that Nina and Frederik - it's in the wants - nice finds mate...sure we have that Life book knocking about somewhere - lovely thing to have on the shelf

I was expecting that Cascades to be a lost gem -i think there is one passable tune...damn shame - sure they did have a psychy moment or two - this ain't it![]()
Rockwell
Banned (DJ Anchovy)
Nice one Ben, plenty scores as usual...
How does that Jim Ford record measure up to his Harlan County? - Which I love.
First side: beautiful.... majestic...
Other side: HELL YEAH! This is what freejazz should sound like - amazing thick wall of headcleaning sound. Then.... beautiful... majestic again....
This is one of the best records I've heard in ages.
Afraid I'm too geared up to sleep after this trip.
Liberia's only (einzige) disco-jazz-rock band
One of the truly great jazz pianists
Absolutely essential to the Coltrane Quartet sound in my view - gave them such a sense of melody through the heavy drums and Coltranes empassioned playing
Apparently he refused to play an electric piano
An amazing record - so much fire to his playing and depth to the music
"Record collecting is no mere hobby, no innocuous leisurely diversion. It is a feverish passion bordering on dementia, driving those under the influence to irrational, compulsive, fanatical extremes."
Night of the Living Vinyl
I Confess 45s
Ubu frenzy! Modern Dance is one of my top 5 LPs. Can't imagine a better start than Non-Alignment Pact and Street Waves
Good to see another shot of the Eine staircase
Not a tactic that can be employed to show off finds if you have cats, I'm afraid.
I like his solo stuff a lot. He was definitely the one out of Wire with the pop aesthetic. Not To is worth checking out too, for the sublime Lorries.
Now you need Deaf, Dumb, Blind. That'll knock your socks off.![]()

Picked up the Thelma Sunshower Lp recently for the Jumpin jack flash cover but found the whole LP pretty decent. Nice recordOriginally Posted by Benicio Del Toffo;475333

You thought the leaden winter would bring you down forever,
but you rode upon a steamer to the violence of the sun.
Nice records there Ben.
So you rate that Brucie LP? I left it in a charity for several months unable to hand over the 50p. I knew the arrangements would be top notch but couldn't handle the thought of his vocals (and I've had the other one with Love Theme on).
Add me to the list wanting Nina & Frederick. Missed a copy last year for £3 from the market.

Some records from the last 2 or 3 weeks picked up from the market, record shop and a VGplusser.
Sweet Thursday - S/T (Great Western Gramophone) I wasn't familiar with this group when I found it in the racks of a local record shop, even though it contains some fairly big names from the late 60's scene. The highlight would be Cobwebs I guess, where a search on here confirms that the track is already appreciated. Few other decent moments as well. Turns out they had a big US hit called Gilbert Street. This is a 2nd press from the early 70's. Example below, good late 60's UK pop psych...

Trilogy - I'm Beginning To Feel It (Mercury) Nice UK press of US late 60's group from Chicago mainly in the country rock vibe and nice guitar/organ/strong harmonies. Few nice mellow acoustic moments as well. The track below I particularly like (kicks in at 26 secs)

Upp - S/T (Epic) Minted up with a nice UK press. Contains the UBB and sampletastic Give It To You. I really need to listen to the full LP!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVwwLbe-A4Y
E Rodney Jones And The Prairie Dogs - Contractual Blues (Concert Hall) Not a blues LP but doesn't really deliver on any level really. Cover of Get Ready in a Rare Earth style would be the highlight. Cover of You Made Me So Very Happy feat Nancy Holloway is also on the LP and OK. The lead vocalist is pretty lame to be honest.
London Beat - Various (Europa) Well known Euro cheapie on here that because I bought it in a UK record shop wasn't that cheap! Few good R&B titty shakers and a few decent beaty pop with vocals tracks.
Love Is Blue - Various (Europa) Again well known on here. 101 Strings with their exploito instrumentals doing the business.
Ray Merrell - Keep The Customer Satisfied (Rediffusion) I bought two Rediffusion LP's (see below) without sleeves from the market but because I liked both I had to go online to buy them with sleeves. Arranged by Pete Moore and basically crooner vocals over the top of great funky backing tracks. Cracking versions of Feeling Good, Baby I Need Your Loving and others. Roy Budd writing credit on Happy Weekend. Great LP in true VV/VG+ spirit and well recommended.
Mike Morrissey - Flower Of Love (Rediffusion) I found this LP several years ago but wan't prepared to pay the £3 and asked the question on here whether I'd been right to leave it. Lord T confirmed I was as it was country and poor. He was right on both counts but I've fell in love with one track called My Woman's Good To Me. Again, crooner vocals with a backing that has a hint of country but with jazz guitar chords. Infectious chorus with heavy drums and hammond. Definitely give this LP (or rather this track a go) if you see it cheap. Your LP's were posted yesterday Ian T
The LP's above were provided by Sie Fly, are all great and probably need no introduction...cheers Sie![]()

You freeking scientologists are all the same, quible, dribble and then demand ice creams. Ohhhhhhhhhhh.
Which one? The other, 1973, LP has a nice downtempo tune tucked away at the end of one side. Worth the couple of euro it cost me, in my opinion.
...I've just twigged that 'Strings For Ravi' is on 'Love Is Blue'.And I have the LP.
A pity that it's a bit overloaded with tracks (more so because my copy of 'Sounds Of Today' is pressed offcentre).

Nice finds there Nige mate, I'll have to get Sie on the case for the other 'Emul' LP as that track you played me sounded great.![]()

Mmmm.... I needledropped and put it aside. So my intitial thought was the same. But the kinda record you have to take a chance on for £2.50 if you don't know it.
Re: the Jazz Mods "indijazztion" - did you just jinx me? Haven't been sick to my stomach for more than 12 years and this night was hellish - spent more time in the bathroom than in bed. Or was it the aftermath of listen to Karma right before bedtime?
Re: Deaf, Dumb, Blind - already got it. Bought it this summer at the place in my old hometown that pretty much fostered my musical taste - old man with a record shop who loved Pavement and Pixies. You could sit for hours in his basement and watch him smoke and play records and liste to him talk about music. Spent a lot there as a teenager.
Re: Daniel Viglietti that I have now listened to, great record. Latin/bossa/protest songs with a slight avant or weird twist to some tracks.

Love it.
Alright that's it - back to sickbed...

No Rich, the one Brainbomb got.
101 Strings off centre? There's a decent repress of that LP you know...you might have heard of the label
Absolutely mate. Thankfully mine was a few pence less but I would have certainly punted a few extra pounds on such an LP with no prior knowledge of its musical merits.
Aye, not just one decent track either.
