Just back from holiday to find that my internet was down so the hard drive didn't record the first four games.

    Bah!

Luckily I managed to see the Russia vs Czech game in France.

Arshavin truly is one of the best players in the world when he can be arsed.

I'm supporting Sweden and hope Zlatan finally shows what an amazing player he can be.

Yeah I enjoyed that as well, Russia really impressed both technically and as a team-machine.
Missed last nights's game but congrats to Denmark!

Watched it in the pub so maybe missed the finer detail but noted that (a) Denmark goal looked classy and (b) Holland had a bagful of chances but blazed most of them over the bar...

I missed the friday matches live, but saw the highlights. Russia looked good.
Yesterday was disappointing. Unnecessary defeat, but we can't win if we don't score.
Tonights game Spain-Italy should be good!

Such a shit and overrated player. Barcelona swapping him for Eto'o was enough to send the European Cup the other way. Surely one of the most senseless transfers in the history of football. So arrogant as well, I've always loved watching him laboriously fail to live up to his billing in every big match I've ever seen him in.

Enjoyed Denmark vs Netherlands. Maybe the better side didn't win but the Danes grew in strength throughout the second half after surviving a strong surge at the start from the Dutch. Rode their luck a bit but by the end they looked comfortable.

Anyway, I wonder what England can do to fail to live up to their billing tomorrow. Expectations are already so low they are gonna have to do something really bad to disappoint.

You mean they need to 'dig deep and take their game to whole new level'?

The whole country here is blithely confident, with no evidence at all, that we'll comfortably beat Croatia tonight. The innocence.

I think he's won the league and been top scorer at every club he's played at.

He plays for a very workmanlike national team.

He is arrogant and not very much loved in Sweden.

He basically grew up in a Swedish ghetto and is now earning money beyond his wildest dreams.

    He's a gangsta.

He scored a lot of goals in a fairly weak Italian league but he's never been able to step up to Champions League level or international. He scored a few for Barcelona (though not enough to keep them happy) but I would have done too. I did love his comments on his experience there though "They bought a Ferrari and drove it like a Fiat" and "Guardiola was staring at me and I lost it. I thought ‘there is my enemy, scratching his bald head!’ I yelled to him: ‘You have no balls!’ and probably worse things than that."

Spain v Italy... I followed it on the radio and think a draw was a fair result. Italy will probably be the happier team with the point..? But, saying that, a draw is a better start for Spain than their last last World Cup campaign.

    Ballotelli tho..?

EDIT: off to the pub to watch the Ireland game...

    good game that.

Nice to see a Spanish team forget the intricate be-bop stuff (24 passes where one will do) and get back to tunes you can hum.

His hesitation when through on goal was truly bizarre.

Surely rumours of 'far eastern betting syndicates' are on twatter by now.

    Really enjoyable game.

Surely Fernando 'Pr*n star' Llorente has got to play next game?

It was strange, especially after he'd battled so hard to win the ball. I think that maybe he thought Ramos had fallen down and couldn't possibly catch him but it was weird the way he was jogging. His replacement scored an instant goal didn't he? Shame Torres couldn't do the same although his chances weren't half as easy as the commentators made out.
Another good game anyway. My girlfriend said "It's not a very exciting game is it?" but I told her it was one for the purists. Let's hope for more of the same in the next one...

Good to see a couple of the Italians rocking full beards in the Gennaro Gattuso tradition.

No wonder David Villa and his soul patch were lying low.

From an Arsenal point of view . . .

Our Pole keeper has a mare and gets sent off.
Bloody fucking bloody Arshavin looks quite decent
RVP has a mare and misses chance after chance.
    Podolski does very little.
    Fucking bloody fucking Fabregas scores.

    Rubbish.
    To infinity - and beyond!

I guess Ballotelli is just so smug and self assured he presumed that because he'd won the ball down by the line then kept it in play he was going to be allowed free reign to amble into the box, pirouette 360 degrees then backheel it through Cassilas' legs...!!?

Di Natale is a legend... he was unsure if he'd even get called up for the final squad despite being consistently great for many seasons now... he definitely taught Ballotelli a thing or two about respect, graft and using your head... got himself into some great positions, still has the legs of a man 10 years younger than him and took his goal brilliantly... just a shame he's 34 now and will probs hang up his boots in a season or so...

As for Spain... big shame there is no David Villa... the formation was rather bizarre and they did well to turn the game back into their favour... Llorente is obviously their Andy Carroll and has had a great season for Bilbao... I can only presume he isn't 100% fit (didn't Bilbao play about as many games as Barcelona with cup runs etc?) after that long season and he's being held back... surely him and Lewandowski of Poland can bag the golden boot coming off the form from club level...?

It looks weird on paper but its essentially the formation that Barcelona play, which makes sense given that the Spanish midfield. Fabregas has played in that position when Messi was out.

The idea is that he's the Spanish Andy Carroll in that he's tall and good in the air. He's clearly a good player but the theory is Spain just don't play that way so Del Bosque doesn't think he'd work.

About two hours till kick-off. Are the pre-match nerves kicking in in the UK?

Thanks - not that nervous to be honest. A life-time of disappointment has taught me not to get too excited about these things (at last). On the other hand I think that England's shitness has probably been exaggerated almost as much as their greatness has in the past. We will be well-organised and hard to score against I suppose but dull and ultimately France will most likely win. 1 - 0 and the worst game of the tournament so far is my prediction.

That's proven me wrong. Happy to be wrong.
Where was the marking? That was a worse miss by Milner than people seem to realise too. Well, he did the difficult bit but he had more time than he took to score.

If England carry on the way they finished the first half then they're gonna suffer.
