I give this thread 5 stars
Attention!!! I know this is a very expensive Price for the record. This i one of my most beloved Records, so my primary intention isn't the selling. I like it in my collection. I only will sell it, if someone wants it that much, that he is willing to pay that much money. Therefore the unrealistic price. Please don't tell me about it. I don't want to cheat ,I don't force someone into buying it, I don't want to drive up the price. Thanks for understanding

Wow incredible records gang, well jealous! I'd be even more jealous if even 10% of all shown here were found in real record shops and markets! and not the foot of your front doors.

Come on, that's not very fair - Euro pic sleeves aren't especially ubiquitous in UK shops/ charities... at least not in my experience.

I've found plenty of decent non-pic sleeve 45s in the wild here.

edit: 6 of he ones i posted came from the real world

A large percentage of mine came from trips to Utrecht - is this 'real world' enough for your exacting standards? Personally I'd see that more like shooting fish in a barrel BUT I did find them in the real world at a real big record fair. A lot of my records DO come through the post - so what? I live in Edinburgh for fucks sake - a place where the most exciting records are simply not to be found and trust me I put the leg work in - boots, charities, private collections, lock ups and travelling around the middle of Scotland (and further when I get the chance) - I do all this. I see you are located in Manchester - a place which boasts at least two of the best record shops in the country and is in easy travelling distance of London and indeed the contintent itself - marvelous!! If I could source Euro pics sleeves of decent records locally of course I would - but I can't. Does this make them any less valid in a thread which is primarily about looking at euro pic sleeve cover art?

    ...now, show us yours!

    Great post Lee man!

And to add to it if there was any interesting Euro Psych/Freakbeat records in Scotland they would end up on Ebay rather than in a shop anyway, like they would in Newcastle if there was any here in the first place!

Well, there isn't much point in me taking part in this thread as there's a lot of crossover with the pic sleeves owned by fellow 'tasted' posters (Craig, LDJB etc. especially), but it has been an enjoyable thread to view...

I get your point, of course, many of the records shown are not attainable if you live in scotland. Euro pic sleeves don't show up. So the internet is the only viable way to source them other than European digging trips.
I've nothing against buying records online (most of us do it) nor do I have an issue with this thread or the collections, as previously stated I'm envious of what I see and will never own most of the records shown primarily due to funds(or lack of)

Now show you mine? well, as I don't collect euro p/s intentionally and do most of my digging in the real world they don't stand up to the quality of yours and many others on here. However, that is exactly my point. I'm impressed with many of these records BUT i'd be more impressed if they were found on Euro digging trips which as you said the majority of yours were, so, if you took offence by what I said please don't.

A good Euro p/s is great regardless of where its sourced from but if it was found not in the Uk that is to say on holiday etc.. thats all the more sweeter
    Isn't it?

That's the very reason me and Lee go to Utrecht every year!

I think your point is a bit naive LB, as someone who goes to spain a lot for instance, try turning up decent stuff there, the store holders just shrug their shoulders and say "ébay".

slim pickens unless you've got endless time on your hands - does it really matter where they come from? maybe it makes it sweeter, that's just a point of pride though.

I think it does matter where they come from yes, I've recently come back from 3 months in Brazil with a lot of records I've djed them every week since and take great pride in going personally over there to dig for records to play them to people and talk about my trip. which is probably the same as the guys on here who go to Utrecht
Now I understand that isn't feasible for everyone to go to far flung places digging but to say it doesn't matter where a record comes from I am gonna have to disagree.

Sorry for hijacking, what is/was a wonderful thread btw. no offence intended just a bit of record banter eh??

I think its a fair point, and I get more satisfaction from buying straight from the source, because you are there, and the context seems to make the whole transaction/dig/net result a greater experience - but i just think its become more relative in recent years, as you probably found buying in brazil, when I went there last it was pre-popsike, but I'd imagine now with discogs et al its not so easy to grab a bargain.

you could, if were being pernickety, argue that utrecht isn't really obtaining records fairly, according to the rules you're presenting here. so where does it stop/start?

and ultimately, does it really matter? or is it another layer of attachment to an already fetishised area of interest (i am asking this of myself too btw)??

That depends, surely, T? For example, my copy of 'La Dernier Domicile Connu' came from Utrecht and cost 4€ from a stall of otherwise uninteresting (to me) tat. Of course you can tick off the list at the specialist dealers but there's still plenty of 'digging' to be done around the rest of the hangar.

Yes and no. Personally speaking, as leebrady says, where they come from does matter and I'm happier finding a bargain in the real world than paying through the nose on eBay. But I'm not going to turn down a cheap record online, either...

For me it's about the bigger picture with regards price especially at somewhere like Utrecht. On the Friday I look through the cheap stuff and occasionally score (eg - Daisy Clan - Glory be, Blue beard - Sly willy...ETC), but it's about time invested looking a cheap stuff to the detriment of not looking at other stalls, it's about balance for me any way. I know at the the end of the day some stuff I buy will be dear, some stuff will be bang on the money and other stuff will be cheap, so in my mind the bigger picture works out that you paid just under going rate on all your buys which is cool by me!

I concur - ticking things of the wants list online is essentially a hollow experience. JamesF and I were having this very conversation last weekend
I always feel I should defo save some of the money i spend on records to go on holiday more. I had a great trip to Budapest 4 years ago or so where i ticked off a bunch of East Euro wants for bugger all. Very satisfying +++

I try and offset the shame by making my bigger online purchases after selling some gear on ebay or getting paid for design work, don't feel guilty then.

Gonna try and hit Paris hard next week (although readying myself for disappointment there) and hopefully will attend Utrecht in Nov. See you guys there, yeah?

    Records are great.

You should all feel very guilty for your awesome Euro pic sleeve online purchases, amen.

I found one of these in a local chazza, chooooon!

I've been thinking about writing "online" or "real world" in thick marker on the cover and label of all my records.
I know that in the future when Ive long forgotten where I bought them, this information will have a big impact. A "real world record" will sound so much better and the cover art glow with a mystic aura. "Online" records... pffff..... won't even bother playing/looking at them. Maybe just hide them in the cupboard somewhere. Somewhere well away from the magical "real world" records so there is no contamination.

And if someone gives me a record in my house? Hmmm, tough. I might ask them to dump it somewhere outside. Maybe a charity shop or something and have them give me a hint to the vicinity of the record. Then when/if I stumble across it, I can comfortably write "real world" and it will sound and look SICK.

Being a very single man (with most mates coupled up), I dont tend to go on holidays these days. I love being in different countries but hate the turmoil of getting there, so most of my foreigns these days are online purchases. I used to get some cool cheap Dutch stuff when touring but then other times (when in Paris) got naff all, cos the prices were high and ploppy. Just give us the pron. I might post up some later, with a few dupes.

Matt, think twice about doing this. When you die and your nearest and dearest chuck out all your records to the charity shop then all your online records will in fact become real world ones. Except you'll have scrawled online on them. So use a pencil.

One of the reasons I moved to Spain was to find Brothers Groove cheap in the wild.
12 years later and still no joy. If anyone can point me towards a junk shop with a copy for a euro, I'd be more than grateful.
