Default Muse - Survival (Official Olympic Song)

Has anyone heard this? It is, in the literal sense, amazing.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jt__jKWoYH8

Is it some kind of joke? Nazi matching song meets a more bombastic Queen. Check out the lyrics as well. They've definitely nailed the Olympic ideal... although I don't think that bit about how awesome the guitar solo is is really in there.

    Race, life is race
    And I am gonna win
    Yes, I am gonna win
    I'll light the fuse
    And I'll never lose
    And I choose to survive
    Whatever it takes
    You won't pull ahead
    I'll keep up the pace
And I will reveal my strength to the whole human race
Yes, I am prepared to stay alive
    I won't forgive
    Vengeance is mine,
And I wont give in because I choose to thrive

And I am going to win

    --- GUITAR SOLO---
    (Yes, awesome)

    Race, it's a race
And I'm gonna win, Yes I am gonna win
And I will light the fuse
    And I'll never lose
    And I choose to survive
    Whatever it takes
    You won't pull ahead
Because I'll keep up the pace
And I will reveal my strength to the whole human race
Yes I am going to win.

    Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!
    Win! Win! Win! Win!
    YES I'M GOING TO WIN.
I'm imagining a jackboot stamping on a human face forever... although I have to admit I've listened to it four times in a row.

A truly vile song by an awful band.

Nazi marching song + Queen = Ron Mael

Reading through those comments, it's incredibly difficult not to react snobbishly, no matter what Grayson Perry has to say about taste. That said, they're more entertaining than actually listening to the song. Maybe Del Amitri's 'Don't Come Home Too Soon' wasn't such a bad effort.

    ...Er, cheers Rich.

I thought Mark Ronson nabbed first place for the official Olympic song. Or was that just hype nonsense?

Dunno. But somebody is definitely having a laugh here, whether it's Muse or the people who selected the song.

    Sur-real

Shame it hasn't got Jimmy Page emerging out of a battle tank to Leona on stilts and Beckham drop kicking a ball. That was major lolz.

    More laffs with the logo:

Does anyone want to produce an unoffical cartoon video to the Muse Song of the mascots going mental and firing purple lazer beams out of their sinister eyes? Then the atheletes could clump together in one massive ball of muscle and sinew and roll over them. It would have a MESSAGE, go viral and we'd make loads of money on google ads.

Muse are always bombastic, of course, but wanting to win / survive is not a fascist emotion in itself. Would it have been better if it had been called 'The Taking Part'?

That logo's made me realise there might be a future in my Paintbox-level graphic design skills.
The mascots are ace, too. Fuck the 60s - imagine seeing them dancing to Muse while youre tripping.
Normally I only watch the diving, but I think these Olympics are going to be BRILLIANT.

It would certainly have been more in line with Baron De Coubertin's original philosophy of the Olympian ideal.
But who gives a shit about that compared with the prospect of watching those mascots killing each other to death with PURPLE LASER RAYS while Muse go FIGHT! FIGHT! WIN! WIN!

I was initially quite peturbed when my four year old came back from school talking about Mandeville and Wenlcok. I didn't like the idea of her school teaching her about the corporatised and trademarked nature of the Olympics
But when I thought more about it I realised that in years to come my daughter will look back on the Olympics as an historical event that she was able to take part in and, much as I may not like it, mascots, symbols and stupid songs are all a part of it
So I say, Good Luck Muse, but I hope I never have to hear your song again

No, its strangely more of a sax-led Kenny G vibe

Cool - they incorporate various sporting activities into their routine. I spotted running, jumping discus throwing, taking shitloads of performance enhancing drugs, swimming and cycling.

I'd love it if it were called The Taking Part and the inclusive lyrics were accompanied by that same bombastic neo-wagnerian guitar-wank magnificence.

How can anyone seriously object to mascots in funny costumes at a sporting event?!
They are the essence of family entertainment, surely.

That song was horrendous, as are the mascots, but that seems to be an olympic tradition. The only nice ones were the 72 Munich Dachshund and Barcelona Dog/Cat/Mariscal cheerful thing. See also tremendous decline of World Cup mascots since Pique.

Chopin prelude + Bicycle Race + Kashmir = Predictable outcome from band who usually write songs to go with their lighting cues.

Tbh, it could have been worse and we should at least give them credit for not writing a cutesy universal love and peace ballad, although it'll be interesting to see how the BBC uses it in it's coverage...

....and sorry, what's yer problem with owl mascots exactly?....
you can hear colours when they rhyme...
