The Legion Of Doom 12" was found at a house clearance warehouse north of Philly on Sunday morning - I found the Jimmy Bishop LP for $4 at the same time (as shown in one of the pics). It was in with a mixed pile of 12"s and priced at $8 (EX condition). It's my second copy so I'll have a think about how best to move it on at some point. The Twin Towers is exceptional rare and very good. The Rock Hard 12" was a record shop find, must admit I didn't know it but it looked right and worth a punt for just a few dollars.

@ Sie Vulture.
Nice 45s, The Webs is sublime! Lowrider heat. Firme Rolita!
Genre Dysphoria.
some great 45's there Sie ,
love the Johnnie Mae Matthews - you reckon Led Zeppelin heard it?!
it's OK to head out for wonderful, but on your way to wonderful, you're gonna have to pass through all right. When you get to all right,
take a good look around and get used to it, because that may be as far as you're gonna go.
It was released this year I believe on Jazzman, not a bad label, so that crossed my mind for a second. What are the odds to find a sealed original?

Nice finds!
Just back from a gruelling work trip to Rio. I managed to grab a few hours at the end & hoovered up the eye candy below in a few hours. Same spots as written up in the Rio diggers guide, with the significant addition of the Saturday market at Praça XV Novembro which tipped my luggage weight over to lugging carrier bags onto the plane. Well worth it....
First some pics of Rio street art
And here's the Praça XV market. The guy in the middle at the record stall is the main man at Tropicalia Discos. If I get to go again I'll try to do it at the beginning of the trip - I had 3 or 4 sellers offer to show me stacks of singles ('compactos') they hadn't brought with them. Singles seem to be under the radar still, & quite a few bargains to be had.
Now to the records...
These 3 all from the market. I lucked out with the Joni Maza - a blind punt which turns out to have 3 stone classic groovy tracks. The other 2 probably need no introduction.
Absolutely loving Johnny Alf - his voice has a very similar timbre to Bobby Cole & the whole LP really reminds me of his 'Point of View'. Dom Salvador is a long-time want & the Osmar Milito is uber-cool too.
Instant Beto Guedes collection. 'Amor de Indio' stands out on a first listen.
The Antonio Adolfo is another I've been after for years & I can finally ditch the later issue 'Tabua de Esmeralda'
Some 60s jazz - haven't got round to this lot yet...
Lula e Lucinha has very nice sparse sound; Ze Ramalho has its fans here - need to give it another try. O Africanto os Tincoas is some decent North Eastern folk; Arco-Iris sounds a bit too smooth to me.
Dorothy Ashby & Doris Duke both Brazilian pressings, both excellent condition & both cheap. Roberto Carlos is a 2-tracker, as Rich Hero knows... That Cristina record is pretty rubbish I'm afraid.
... and a bunch of other stuff I haven't got round to yet...
Singles to follow
I'm still trying to get the hang of the new(ish) site, so if anyone can tell me how to edit the last post I'd appreciate it. When I try the 'edit' box is blank so I can't delete the repeat photo that crept in there somehow...
Singles from Rio:
Groovy 60s stuff plus an original Italian press of Le Orme, very nice Euro pop psych. Wonder how it got to Rio.
I picked up quite a few covers of Marcos Valle songs & this Erasmo Carlos b-side is the pick of the bunch. The Hyldon EP includes his awesome 'Na rua, na chuva, na fazenda...'. I got very excited when I found this Claudette Soares EP & then it turned up in practically every shop & stall. Includes her great take of 'Shirley Sexy'.
The Taiguara EP includes a lovely Arthur Verocai production. Ana & Mauricio from the Globo radio library is another cool Marcos Valle cover. And Moreira da Silva sounds like Austin Powers in Zona Sul.
I'm flagging, so here's some more eye candy. Any questions please ask...

Tom - great finds and great pics... we're killin' it this month already..!
(we're trying to work out the edit issue, sorry...)

Argh. I'm so jealous of all you going on shopping sprees in exotic and faraway places. All I do is go to damp and smelly places in godforsaken smalltowns where I live. Last trip not even worth mentioning - bought a load of things that all were more or less crappy except for a NM Bert Kaempfert Now! for 50p --> whatafind huh guys?
And a pretty nice 3LP comp box of Brasilian music from ca 1967-1975 with many of the usual suspects on it, is however probably not a keeper but an educational tool that I will get rid off as soon as I've decided what artists and records I shall move on to trying to find after liking tracks on the comp...
Liberia's only (einzige) disco-jazz-rock band
Nice finds Tom B.
Were you aware of this lunch time concert at Rough Trade East yesterday?
Rough Trade East In-store - ARNALDO ANTUNES, EDGARD SCANDURRA & TOUMANI DIABATE - Monday 2nd July, 1pm 02/07/2012
Twas good!
Attention!!! I know this is a very expensive Price for the record. This i one of my most beloved Records, so my primary intention isn't the selling. I like it in my collection. I only will sell it, if someone wants it that much, that he is willing to pay that much money. Therefore the unrealistic price. Please don't tell me about it. I don't want to cheat ,I don't force someone into buying it, I don't want to drive up the price. Thanks for understanding
A close friend of mine did pick up one copy as well at the same spot, but when he pulled it out of the sleeve to play it at home, it was broken... Record karma!
That means; one copy for him, one for the 'bay and one to keep :-)
Really good! I'll admit I didn't know the two Brazilian chaps (no surprise there) but Toumani Diabate? Oh yes, Kora player extraordinaire!
Musically it's fusion of Malian and Brazilian traditions.
As an aside the City of London Festival is currently on, I'll be popping along to these as it is next door to my workplace:

Went back to check if I had passed on any gems at that jazz sale from the other day. Napped a few nice pieces still at ~7 Euros each.
Jazz Way Out is a late 1950-s looking red Savoy feat. Coltrane. Steve Lacy is on yellow/orange Candid and sounds interestingly different. Jack deJohnette does Equipoise on melodica which is nicer than it sounds. Green Line is heavy funky jazz by Steve Marcus.
And some misc. stiff from the last couple days.
Rare Masta Ace bonus cut 'Top Ten List'. Jorge Ben is nice funkyish 70s latin. Hoctor EZ 'Sunny' on 7".
And came across a poster for what is apparently an Indian film about a wild rodent prostitute(?)

Weird one here...the chap I'm sharing a record fair stall with at the weekend popped over and showed me his recent find from a house clearance chap.
It's a perfectly preserved Woolies record dept bag, complete with the records I assume the customer bought on that day in 1973 (all the LP's bar the Bert are 1972 - that one is 1973 so we must assume they were bought in 1973).
There is not a speck of dust on the bag, the records look brand new and do not appear to have been removed from the bag or played at all.
Odd!
I've spun the Acker LP and 'Fire and Rain' is groovy!
