Just watched the Quiet Earth - amazing film. Apart from being the sort of naturalistic PKD-ish sci-fi that I love, there was an amazing Dawn of the Dead style 'go crazy in the mall' part, topped with 'go crazy in a train'. There was also a custom painted truck called 'Lady Di' that really made me giggle for some reason

Has anyone mentioned the Vigo Mortensen-Guy Pearce-Robert Duval film 'The Road'? which I thought, although very bleak was a good movie. One of the better one's of the 'post apocalyptic' genre.
Although it has no zombies in it, the tension in some of the scenes is unbearable, the acting solid throughout, plus it's got a decent Nick Cave score as well!
Agreed! it is profoundly 'down' in tone, also the photography and camera work is amazing. Everything has a suitably washed out grey/brown hue to it, funnily enough reminding me of Blyth Northumberland where I spent many years as a kid. The ending does let some much needed light in, but overall I'd concur that it was one of the best films I've seen in a few years as well.
For anyone interested I wrote an essay comparing The Road and Children Of Men as examples of post-apocalyptic films on my blog. Quick makeshift Google translation here: http://movieboxen.blogspot.dk/2011/0...fremtiden.html
I saw Def Con 4 at the weekend. Rather good it was too. Manages to be both authentic to the grim nature of the scenario yet has a few laughs along the way.
