    Default Living in South London?

Apologies for the ridiculously unrelated thread but I did this a few years back and got some very good advice and a nice new neighbour called Jakartajive for my troubles.

Now I'm looking south of the river. It's not ideal - I'd rather stay Norf - but work/rent dictates.

Looking at a few places; New Cross, Lewisham, Peckham etc. Got a viewing in Ladywell later. I'd not even heard of Ladywell until yesterday.

Google opinion suggests Lewisham is a violent hole but I'm from Croydon so I'm guessing these are the voices of ageing racist idiots. Help etc!

I used to live in Ladywell, just south of Hilly Fields.
    It was nice, quiet, sleepy.
Lots of lovely houses round there, fairly easy to get the overground into town from Ladywell station.
A ten-minute walk into Lewisham High Street.
    Buses to Greenwich and Blackheath.

The downside of course is that McKinnon lives just the other side of the hill.

Depends on what your overall expenditure plans are. Forest Hill, East Dulwich etc are pleasant. Herne Hill is nice, but becoming increasingly trendy, and when Bradley Wiggins pops round to the old velodrome there'll never be an end to it
Attention!!! I know this is a very expensive Price for the record. This i one of my most beloved Records, so my primary intention isn't the selling. I like it in my collection. I only will sell it, if someone wants it that much, that he is willing to pay that much money. Therefore the unrealistic price. Please don't tell me about it. I don't want to cheat ,I don't force someone into buying it, I don't want to drive up the price. Thanks for understanding

previously lived in south London for a few years (Elephant/Camberwell/Peckham/Tulse Hill/Brixton); prepare to spend a lot of time on buses...........though most pass through Walworth road which is surprisingly very convenient to central london - there's a crazy amount of buses (one every 3-5 mins) that will have you on the strand/Covent garden within 15 mins.

I'm back up north now which i prefer but still have a soft spot for those areas - could never afford to live north of the river though

Camberwell is probs the pic of the bunch; some good bars and a fine record shop 'Rat Records' which is a must on Saturday mornings when they but the fresh stock out.

Oh you cheeky git! Surely north London = not from London.
South London is still dominated by London families and this is the beauty of the place. Mr Naga you could also check West Norwood which I think is a great little place. It has low rents, quite a lot of young(ish) people, a record stall once a month and it also has great transport links. If I could buy an extra property to help my kids I would do so in Crystal Palace as it is really nice, independent shops and restaurants, real people and again great transport links.

Yes. There is no-one resident in the whole of north London who was born in the city.
    Astounding, but actually true.

Absolutely - no one here was born in North London, went to school here, studied in UCL, stayed living in North or East London and is still here. No one like that here at all.

Is that air raid shelter sign still there in Ladywell? I was amazed it had survived all these years. I used to live in Honor Oak Park - it was good enough for Timothy Spall as well.

I live in Tulse Hill, and pass through Herne Hill often! Let's keep it quiet though, we don't want those North London types round here

He he. To be honest, most friends who live north of the river point blank refuse to go south, know nothing about the place and assume its full of gun-toting hoodies.

I spent part of my childhood there, lived there as a young adult for many years and have many friends there.

I just think it's poorly connected, lacking in what we north of the water see as culture, a bit shabby, and nowhere you'd choose to live in if you could afford otherwise.

That's southsoide Dubs talking about the nor'side - without the humour.

It's true, some mind blowing insularity. But on the upside we have an area called Stillorgan which John peel took the piss out of on air when he was stuffing festive 50 lists into SAEs and came to my one. "Someone's making these names up surely".
Enthusiastic vagueness passes for scholarship in the twilight world of the disc-jockey.
