a few nice finds among the chaos of the tip shop today






I found the first ever Ron Grainer 78 in this same tip shop a few weeks ago
and today I found his classic TV theme








I have a few Butlins records but this was my first Pontins disc. The woman 2nd left
looks a bit like a young Lynda Bellingham, but it can't be her can it?







a private press single of poems laddie, no idea of the year of release but prob early 70's







a tatty UK sleeve but one I had never seen before






this may come in useful, come the glorious revolution brothers + sisters







I had no idea about this but it turns out to be a reggae version of the Rolf classic






the vinyl is VG but the sleeve is in beautiful condition, probably my best find of the day





I didn't leave it like this, someone seriously needs to tidy up a bit!

Still working through my acquisitions from the last couple of months.

This was from a local second hand shop where I've had the odd result. I had my doubts in this case. However, I felt that I ought to buy something out of politeness. This looked like it might be a sexily sophisticated euro comedy. Perhaps some smooth funky bossa sounds?

Realistically, though, it was more likely to be a yokel-friendly chuckle-fest. The giveaway being the cartoon of the farming types leering at the scantily clad young woman.

And the outcome? The latter.

I know a guy here who might be interested in it for the sleeve

The Advocates - S/T (Dove tail)
Xian punt that paid off, this groovy bunch deliver! There's a great track on here (Rise, shine), Drums yo!

Late december/early january has me looking in the postpunk crates:



Penguin Cafe Orchestra - S/T
Not really postpunk perhaps, but found in such a crate nevertheless. This is very beautiful... avantgarde minimalism folk easy listening? Probably has the best music ever written for telephone and rubber band:

A Certain Ratio - To Each...
Postpunk rooted with influnces from both industrial music (Cabaret Voltaire and similar) as well as jazz/funk (they even get away with some slap bass!). The long final track is a bit atypical from the rest but is a fantastic hypnotic monotonous postpunk jam groove:

Blurt - Smoke Time
Bit late offering from these guys (1987) but still good. Surprised to find a former member of Quintessence behind the drums, this is pretty far from hippie folkprog. Has more in common with the NY No Wave scene to my ears, but with more of an avantgarde jazz take to it.

Bourbonese Qualk - The Spike
Also a bit late (1985) from these guys, believe they started out as an industrial band and moved through more avantgarde postpunk sounds (as here) to a more dancefloor friendly sound in the end(?).

Nice stuff Medicine Weasel. What's the story on The Capes Of Good Hope? I thought it only came out on Round Records. Is Machiavelli an Australian label? Never heard of it before. I checked Discogs and only one version is listed.
BTW there's a cheap copy here if anyone else is interested

@Brainbomb love that BQ LP. Have most of theirs and just picked up the Bo'Qu comp today.

Well worth persevering with. Bo'Qu, My Government is My Soul, Unpop are all great.
