The best film in every genre film genre

Bored and started thinking again about this nonsense I once posted in the BIKER FLICKS thread:

It seems to me for every genre film I like there's a whole new (exploitation) genre to discover. Bikers: Easy Rider, trucks: Convoy, sharks: Jaws, chainsaws: Texas Chainsaw Massacre, werewolves: American Werewolf in London etc. Maybe instead of exhausting yourself watching every medicore title in every genre, just pick the classic one? On the other hand: Saw Santa's Sadists recently which wasn't overwhelming but somehow the mean nihilistic leader character stayed with me for a while.

    Discuss if you care.

Isn't that a bit like saying don't bother listening to punk records, just get Never Mind The Bollocks?

Would you do the same for records? I'm not entirely sure you like films that much, why keep torturing yourself?

You're half right, it certainly leads the crab faced alien hunter kills elite army unit sub genre.

Why indeed? I feel much the same about 'Roadhouse' and 'Blind Fury'.

Headless does make it seem like it's "work" sometimes...

                  Totally agree Re: Predator.

Went on a long-haul flight last week and as the TV in the seat was broken, I had a root around on my laptop to see if there was anything i'd downloaded that i'd not watched. Came across Stay Hungry which I presume somebody on here recommended. Not so much a genre film as about 20 genres in one - it seemed like someone had done an exquisite corpse game with plot / directors. Where else would you see Arnie playing violin with a hillbilly band though?

Sorry if I come across like a miserable spoilsport. I just got Blind Justice, a 1990s western w Armand Assante as a blind Civil War renegade and the lovely Elisabeth Shue, so I haven't completely lost the faith.

no way. have you watched it lately? I always thought the second one was better. but I recently watched both again and the first one wins. it plays like a horror film all the way though, all tension and builds. the second one is a family film.
