Pleased and slightly amazed that Paul Beatty won this. His first book, White Boy Shuffle, was one of the most entertaining novels I read around the turn of the century; Tuff was almost as good, and Slumberland, about a black American DJ in Berlin, beard-stroking beat diggers and a jazz genius playing porn soundtracks, is full of stuff that loads of people on here would appreciate. I can´t wait to get my hands on The Sell Out.

I recently finished last years winner, A Brief History of Seven Killings, too, and although it's overlong, it's hugely impressive with loads of background into 70s reggae themes like poison flour and the Green Bay killings.
