Default We Free Kings - jazz jazz jazz jazz jazz

    Hello

Because I'm making all the posters + flyers on a photocopier (the only way I know, or indeed wish to know), I can't paste anything up here, but this is whats up:

    WE FREE KINGS

Just jazz, thats all. No funk, no soul, no latin, no reggae, no hiphop, no shitty fusion, no nu-jazz. Proper jazz. The end.

    delivering the goods:

Duncan Brooker:, legendary afro-beat and funk collector and proprietor of the original and best afrobeat re-issue label, Kona Records, who is also holder of a very very scary jazz collection, amongst other things. Expect a lot of music you never had any idea even existed.
Federico Bolza: Part-time jazz critic for Italian Vogue, ex-lead singer of cult (?) one-45 Canadian garage rock band The Cryptics, one-third of one-time Montreal jazz/60s club chaps Men From Suave, all round good egg and peerless music buff. There is very little you can tell Mr. Bolza about jazz or vintage clothes, really very little at all.
Me: spent all my money on ebay like an idiot

where: The 3 Kings, Clerkenwell close, EC1. same place as soft focus, for those who know
when: Saturday 30th July, 8-12 (probably, might be 11)
who: knowledgable old men, foxy chicks, + beard-stroking hep cats, obviously.

May be up for this as well, just depends on the next day! Planning to go to the launch of 'The Bottom End' at Electric Ballroom the following night. Jazz back at the Ballroom after all these years, hosted by Seymour Nurse on a monthly basis. The first guest dj will be Patrick Forge spinning only quality jazz, no new beats! then to be followed in future months by Paul Murphy and Gilles Peterson (original Jazz dj's at the Ballroom back in the early 80s).
Hope to be playing there myself after the original crew from back in the days have had a spin...
Now that funk is going overground, could jazz be the new underground!

Ever consider what our dogs must think of us? I mean, here we come back from a grocery store with the most amazing haul -- chicken, pork, half a cow. They must think we're the greatest hunters on earth!

    damn, can't make this...

isn't the Electric Ballroom being knocked down in the future? after some bright idea to replace the station/ballroom/part of the market with offices/starbucks etc (which will obviously be a big draw for the teenage tourist crowd! and be a perfect location for offices! twats...)

Seymour told me the manager (owners daughter) gave him the news about winning the case a few weeks ago. So they should be ok for a few more years, until the property vultures start hovering again...

yes, that would be nice. But the kings doesn't open on a saturday until 7, so impossible. Also, Jazz Afternoon is a bit bogus, its a bit jazz-cool-i-listen-to-it-in-summer-as-background-music. I want jazz Night with Loud Music. Did Coltrane and Monk start play their gigs in the afternoon? No they did not. So evening it is, I'm afraid.

jolly good. Not that I mind being righteous, of course, and I have in my time been to a geat many clubs and gigs which bear a striking similarity to the Jazz Club of fast show fame. Given my own choice I would probably play sun Ra LPs, all the way through, all evening. Well, maybe not.
